Diabetic ketoacidosis in denmark incidence and mortality estimates

Common Questions and Answers about Diabetic ketoacidosis in denmark incidence and mortality estimates

Avatar n tn It sounds as if the MD is thinking that the vomiting is due to virus (hence, only give water to avoid dehydration) and is not taking into consideration the dangers of ketones in a type 1 diabetic. I, too, would question the advice given by the doctor. It is possible that the child has high glucose levels because of a virus, but still the ketones should be watched carefully and insulin increased given appropriately to lower those 300 levels to normal, sick or no.
Avatar m tn As noted, not all patients with chronic hepatitis C have premature mortality from the infection and, in fact, the majority of patients with HCV are likely to live their natural life span. Therefore, efforts to estimate the risk of progression to serious liver disease continue to be of importance. In this sense, measures to gauge the progression of fibrosis, such as a liver biopsy or noninvasive measures of liver stiffness continue to be important.
Avatar m tn recent evidence has demonstrated a direct correlation between hcv and the incidence of both (1) insulin resistance and (2) hypercholesterolemia. Would diabetic or cardiac death be considered 'unrelated medical causes'? Can we conclusively and comfortably exclude hcv as a contributing factor in these conditions? From a personal standpoint, I don't think we understand the mechanisms of liver function well enough to assume that it is without some blame in other medical issues.
Avatar n tn hey this is a super old thread but just incase someone is out there looking for answers, I'll add my 2 cents. I've been diabetic for 20 years now. I'm 28. I've been a regular pot user for probably 10 years. I firmly believe that used (not excessively) for diabetics, that pot can help a vast number diabetic complications and symptoms. This has been backed up recently by research on weed and diabetes.
Avatar m tn His doctor says that his blood sugars are well controlled, and he even wakes with low blood sugar (2 m.mol), and has to get up and eat to correct this. He takes his own blood sugars every day as well as 6 monthly testing by the diabetic nurse, but I am worried about possible Ketoacidosis.
1080243 tn?1262975363 Left untreated, diabetic ketoacidosis can lead to a diabetic coma. Diabetic ketoacidosis is most common in people who have type 1 diabetes, but it can also affect people who have type 2 diabetes or gestational diabetes. â– Diabetic hyperosmolar syndrome. If your blood sugar level tops 600 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL), or 33 millimoles per liter (mmol/L), the condition is known as diabetic hyperosmolar syndrome. When your blood sugar gets this high, your blood becomes thick and syrupy.
Avatar n tn Hello Gilbert, I'm guessing that you're writing from outside of the US and are probably using a scale that's different from the one we use here in the US. In the US, "normal" ranges are often cites as 70-120, and so 29 sounds "low." I believe that the scale you're using is the same one we use to measure our a1c where normal might be in the 4.5 - 5.7 range, and so 29 is extremely high.
Avatar n tn You could easily be in DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis) which requires immediate medical attention. I would guess that if you called your doctor and explained your symptoms, he/she may tell you to go the emergency room immediately. But either way, PLEASE GET IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION so you can get treated and be ok!!!!!
Avatar f tn s urine or blood shows large amounts of ketones, this can lead to Diabetic Ketoacidosis or DKA. This is a life-threatening emergency which occurs when blood sugars have been consistenly over 300. This occurs more commonly in Type 1's, often at diagnosis, but can also occur in Type 2's who have been diagnosed long enough that they don't produce much insulin or the insulin production is overwhelmed by serious infection or stress.
Avatar n tn I am not a medical professional but I have been type 1 diabetic for 12 years and have several siblings who are also type 1 diabetic so it's safe to say that I know what I'm talking about. The primary cause of keytones in the blood system is a high blood sugar. Stress and sickness simply make it so that keytones can develop at blood sugars that are normally not good but easily dealt with.
Avatar n tn I went to the emergency room on Monday January 24th and I felt horrible, my blood sugars were 499 when I got there and I ended up in ICU becuase I was in Ketoacidosis and had to be put on a insulin drip, I just got released today and my blood sugars are still not under control. I was taking pills before I lost my insurance and now I am insulin dependent. I have to take 4 shots a day.

Avatar n tn Most of the creatine kinase (CK), also known as creatine phosphokinase (CPK) resides in skeletal muscle, heart muscle, and in the gastrointestinal tract. All your labs are elevated notably CK.
484160 tn?1343397921 She has been throwing up uncontrollably off and on for 2 years. She went in on the 10th and they removed her gallbladder. She went home from that and was back in the hospital on the 14th or 15th. They kept her until last night, sent her home and she is headed back to the hospital this morning, still throwing up. They are talking about inserting a feeding tube into her small intestine to bypass her stomach.
Avatar f tn my doctor said they only found slight colitis in double contrast ct of abdomen and pelvis...but after being in the hospital for over 4 days and STILL having the same pain--and telling my doctor-He told me quote-"I"M NOT ORDERING ANYMORE TESTS!!" I was stupified! Well, I got tough with him and his associates...so he begrudgingly ordered an ENDOSCOPY( I had one 2 months earlier they said was NORMAL!!?)--and SURPRISE SURPRISE..
1327535 tn?1295227611 Although rare in t2 diabetics, the possibility of diabetic ketoacidosis, a life threatening complication, may have surfaced. Get off the computer and call your doctor now.
Avatar f tn They estimate he had been deceased for approx 2 days. His last blood sugar reading was over 600 on his meter and there was vomit in the bath tub. So I know he went into high blood sugar coma but would like to know the timeline. What damages occurs and how long after he passes out? How quickly would he have become unconscious? And if anyone has been brought back from diabetic coma did they feel any pain while out? At what point would it have been to late to revive him without permant damage?
Avatar n tn Here's a study I located, I know a diabetic and she went into a trial for tx, at first I thought it was a telaprevir study, but it was for a different PI. good luck High incidence of type 1 diabetes mellitus during or shortly after treatment with pegylated interferon alpha for chronic hepatitis C virus infection. Schreuder TC, Gelderblom HC, Weegink CJ, Hamann D, Reesink HW, Devries JH, Hoekstra JB, Jansen PL.
Avatar f tn I do not have diabetes or any know cause for the pain that will wake me from sleep like a nail has been pounded in my toe or the top of some of my toes will burn or I cannot stand to have anything touching my feet even my shoes or a feeling like something is on my lower leg or my feet burning. It started in right foot and happened every 3 months or so and would last several nights. Now it is in both feet and fingers with facial symptoms that happens all of the time.
Avatar n tn We are sceptical of what doctors say and always try to find first hand from others their experience he was misdiagnosed twicw before he went into ketoacidosis and they figured out he was diabetic. So any info from people who live with diabetes is more useful than a doctors observations at times. And thanks for your reply.
Tbd If you feel bad, please go to the nearest emergency room. You are potentially at risk of diabetic ketoacidosis. Please make sure the people you are living with know what is going on and if you are acting strange / appear unwell, they should take you to nearest medical attention.
Avatar f tn A sickeningly sweet smell is usually due to diabetic ketoacidosis and if felt in urine and sweat. I understand that diabetes is under control—was a gylcosylated hemoglobin done to check the over all control? The second possibility is menopause. Get FSH, LH, estrogen and progesterone levels checked. If found in menopausal age group, then hormone replacement therapy will help take care of the odor. Take care!
Avatar f tn Yes DKA aka diabetic ketoacidosis has those symptoms but so does high blood sugar in general. She has the 4 common symptoms of diabetes seen in kiddos.
Avatar n tn It is my understanding that if a type 1 diabetic has High BG and ketones, they can go into ketoacidosis and if not treated, they can die, however, I do not believe this would happen in a few hours unless the person was not giving insulin all day long OR unless the person had high ketones all day and could not get his BG down, but I still think that unless the BG was over 600 and not registering on the glucometer, that ketoacidosis would not happen in a couple of hours.
961466 tn?1247550382 DKA is Diabetic Ketoacidosis. It is an extremely dangerous condition which comes about from blood sugars being consistently extremely high as in 300s or higher. It makes you ill, often feels like the flu and if not treated can be fatal in a manner of days. It is not something to be posting on a website about. It is something to go to the ER. Now! Even if it is not DKA, your wife is unable to get out of bed and you are posting to a website??? Get medical help.
