Avatar f tn I'm Type 2 Diabetic and have other issues with my health, i have Gastroparesis, Barretts disease, IBS, Acid Reflux ( Gerd ) Stomach Hernia, and have had 9 Polyps taken from my Bowels ( non cancerous ). I know it's the diabetes thats killing the nerve endings in my stomach which has give me the gastroparesis but how do i control my sugars? i do my best but find it real hard.
Avatar n tn s where there is nerve damage ranging from mild to severe in the stomach, and the impulses that process the food through the stomach are slowed. Severe cases must be put on liquid diets, etc. Ok, I have none of the symptoms (fullness upon eating, nausea, etc.) but my doctor wants me to have a test done via x-ray to monitor movement of food through the stomach. Doctor thinks that high nightime glucose levels are due to food being digested after humalog has worn off.
Avatar n tn until today, but from my research it sounds like it is very similar to gastroparesis. This is a dismotility of the stomach. The stomach is unable to move food through the stomach at the normal pace. When I researched this it sounded very familiar. I know that Zelnorm has been prescribed for stomach problems, but I would also look into a doctor who specializes in type 1 diabetes and gastro problems. In my personal opinion, this is a very underdiagnosed problem.
Avatar m tn Did they call it diabetic gastroparesis? I suspect that's what his diagnosis is, and it's not something you should forget because without it, people are starting over if you want help. Diabetes can damage a digestive nerve and cause gastroparesis. I don't think there is anything that can help the nerve once it's damaged, but controlling blood sugar is important. You could see if probiotics or digestive enzymes help, but it may not.
Avatar n tn I have learned that there can be many different symptoms in relation to this complication. In regards to people with diabetes, gastroparesis is related to diabetic autonomic neuropathy. While my son has never had the problem you have with low blood pressure your comment sent me back to review my research. I came across a website from the Mayo Clinic that speaks to the issue of low blood pressure and autonomic neuropathy. The website is http://www.mayoclinic.com/invoke.cfm?id=HO00169.
Avatar n tn i have diabetic gastroparesis for 4 years now without good treatment, am extremely nauseous whether i eat or not, have lost a lot of weight and i have malnutrition due to not eating well. sometimes i go for a month without ever eating. what medications or lifestyle changes should i make that could really help because am at home cant have a normal life? please help me.
1466277 tn?1286312305 Gastroparesis is not deadly. I actually have gastroparesis so I can answer almost all questions about it. It basically means the stomach empties really slowly. This can cause nausea (appetite loss), vomiting, quickly getting full after eating, not digesting food properly, and weight loss. There are many different medications for this.
Avatar m tn I have gastroparesis too, but I have non-diabetic gastroparesis so it is a little different for me. Is he on any medications to manage the gastroparesis (reglan, domperidone, erithromycin, etc.)? Is he eating a low-fiber, low-fat diet and eating multiple small meals every day? Is the problem that he can't get enough calories in because of nausea/vomitting or that he seems to be getting enough calories but he is still losing weight?
Avatar f tn diabetic gastroparesis. now after all that rambling i'll try to quicker get to my question.the GI doc say's i'm too young for this.and + i'm not even diabetic.but that is his firm diagnosis.ALL my docs, him included are baffled as to why do i have this....is there anyone else here at all with similar stuff as mine?anyone...??? and btw in little over a year b/c of this i have lost just about 100 pounds now....
Avatar f tn It's called diabetic diarrhea and it is caused by neuropathy. Gastroparesis is another symptom of diabetic neuropathy.
Avatar f tn I see an endocrinologist for Graves Disease with hyperthyroidism and he sees a lot of diabetic patients with gastroparesis. He says that Reglan has a lot of side effects and has held off on the script. My gastroenterologist says reglan is the only drug for gastroparesis and gave me a script for it. I have been reluctant to take them though. I have not felt well for a very long time also.
Avatar f tn gastroparesis is a life changing condition that is hard to cope with and vary little options on helping it, i would disscus options with your doctor and eat smaller portions of food by giving your stomach that extra time it needs to digest.
484160 tn?1343397921 Then they took out her gallbladder on the 10th of this month. Now they are calling it diabetic stomach (gastroparesis). She has been throwing up uncontrollably off and on for 2 years. She went in on the 10th and they removed her gallbladder. She went home from that and was back in the hospital on the 14th or 15th. They kept her until last night, sent her home and she is headed back to the hospital this morning, still throwing up.
584742 tn?1219148217 My son has been a diabetic for the past 20 years- type 1. He is now 46 & has gastroparesis. He goes through sever stomach pains, then vomit, then retch then blood. He doesn't get very much sleep anymore but he feels that when he does sleep for quite a while, the pain is more severe. Can this be right?
Avatar m tn I don't know how long I have had diabetes II, I started on pills maybe in 1996. There was no name like Gert or Gastroparesis. A Doctor shoved a pipe down my throat and looked at my ? What he said sounded like something like a "cut" in my esophagus that let acid come up into my esophagus. I learned over 2 years, anytime I ate Roast Beef or tomatoe Juice, that place would close up and keep water from going into my stomach, after a few minutes, it would open back up.
Avatar n tn The doctor in question is a Gastroenterologist and I started seeing him due to stomach problems. I have been told that I have Gastritis, Peptic Ulcer, Gastroparesis (I am also diabetic).....but never a true diagnosis as of yet. These problems have been occurring off and on for the past 4 years. I have had 2 endoscopies, a colonoscopy, MRI's, CAT scans and they have not found anything.
Avatar n tn I too have gastroparesis and am not a diabetic. I also have no known cause for it, which is becoming more and more common for young people. Gastroparesis can come in several degrees of severity. I don't know how bad yours is, but mine is helped tremendously by a steady prescription of prilosec and an occassional pepto-bismo dose. I also eat at constant intervals. Every time my stomach starts to burn (which is on regular hourly intervals), I try to eat something small.
Avatar f tn After having a colonoscopy, endoscopy, capsule study, and stomach emptying study I have been diagnosed with Gastroparesis. I have been given medication that does not work, lost weight (no complaint there), constantly feel full, and have pain. I have been told there is no cure for this and this diagnosis is usually found in people with diabetes which Im not a diabetic. I have been to see two doctors in this field and Im looking now for a third opinion. I just want to feel better. ANy advise?????
Avatar n tn com This site has a forum. The president of the US based non-profit is a type I diabetic with gastroparesis. She has a lot of insight and suggestions regarding gastroparesis and its affect on diabetes.
Avatar m tn The Rx you mention is for reflux, but what you are describing sounds more like diabetic gastroparesis. That is hard to treat other than controlling blood sugar and eating small meals, chewed thoroughly. Tumeric plus Nigella sativa can control blood sugar.
Avatar f tn My first thought is diabetic gastroparesis. Google that phrase along with the word SYMPTOMS, and see if you think it could be a match. It is a nerve problem. Supposedly there are not many treatments for it, so keeping your diabetes under control is most important. I would talk to others with diabetes; some of them are dealing with this also. I would think the enzymes are fine. I take many supplements to aid my digestion, although I don't think mine is gastroparesis.
Avatar n tn Dear suesan and anyone suffering from Gastroparesis. Here is my story. My daughter "had" suffered from nausea, vomiting, and extreme pain just below her left ribcage for the past 5 yrs. We had been to 3 gastroenterologists and numerous E.R. visits (15 per month) in which all her labs, xrays, ultra sounds, CT, endoscopes were always normal, so doctors began to look at her as a drug seeker, which was certainly disheartening.
Avatar n tn I have a 9yr old type 1 diabetic. She has bad acid reflux with gastroparesis symptoms too. she has an endo Dr and Gastro Dr. Has been tested for celiac in blood. upper gi colonoscopy all "normal". She is still misrable and so am I what can I do?
Avatar m tn I would suspect food allergies or gallbladder problems or diabetic gastroparesis.
Avatar n tn With a diabetic and gastric problems you have to think about gastroparesis but could be a lot of different things. http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/gastroparesis/ Three months of nausea after eating is easily 87 days too many. Hope you feel better very soon.
Avatar f tn Yes, permanent liquid diets are doable, and many people with gastroparesis carry them on for months. Try taking a slow walk around your house and see if that helps your stomach digest a little bit. You can also try sucking on a ginger candy or drinking some ginger tea, if you are feeling nauseous. I too have gastroparesis and am currently fed 100% through a J tube. Let me know if you have any questions!
