Avatar f tn Aside indulging in moderate amounts of physical exercise it is also essential to maintain a healthy diet plan. A healthy diet should consist of adequate amounts of calories with carbohydrates, proteins, fat and plenty of fruits and vegetables to supply vitamins and minerals. Skipping any of the food components is not considered healthy. Also when aiming at losing weight the protein intake may be slightly increased and the carbohydrate intake slightly lowered.

Avatar f tn Can a person who is not a diabetic take metformin for weight loss.. I need to loose 60lbs i have tried other prescription's diet pill's and i'am immune to them they work for awhile then nothing.
Avatar f tn Hello. I go through sort of the same struggle you do. I lost a ton of weight following the "Low GI" diet. Its Low Glycemic Index. The diet itself shouldn't really be called a diet because its really just all of the foods you should be eating anyway...but who am I to say that? The Low GI diet is great for people trying to stay away from getting Diabetes, and for people who have Diabetes. Google the diet to pull up all the foods.
Avatar n tn You have to lose slow to keep it off and make a diet worth doing it right for the rest of your life. Look up diabetic diet and follow it..you will lose. By the way I'm on synthroid, have been for years. And I gained weight. It didn't help me lose at all. But that is me. Hoping to get rid of B/P pills when done, already my knees are better, my back is getting better, Also hoping to control this blood sugar with diet alone soon. Keep up the good work. Take it slow.
Avatar n tn If you are pre-diabetic you should be working on a program of carb reduction in your diet, weight loss if needed, exercise and medication if suggested by your doctor. You can slow or even prevent the advancement to diabetes with these things but if you return to previous habits it will return. Talk to your doctor or a diabetic educator for specific plan.
Avatar f tn By avoiding sweets, reducing carbs, getting some exercise, (look into low carb, moderate protein, high fat diet - this can be a very satisfying diet), and getting your weight normal (if you are overweight), there is a very real prospect that you should be able to reverse this. Metformin/ Glucophage, a drug that helps reverse insulin resistance, can also be very helpful.
Avatar f tn Hi and thank you for taking the time to read this. My a1c been up and down for a year now and back in February my a1c rocketed to 6.5 from 6.3 mainly because of bad eating habits. Once I saw that score I came here and got some good advice for diet and excerise and I started right away. 2 weeks after I went to go see a surgeon for a hernia repair and they took my blood that day and my a1c dropped down to 6.
Avatar m tn I assume you mean you have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (also known as syndrome X or metabolic X syndrome by many) - if so why not go see a dietitian who deals with diabetes (just because they deal with diabetes does't mean they can't help develop a plan that will for you, even if your not diabetic) and have them help develop a plan that will work with you?
Avatar n tn Also diet control and exercise are again vital for adequate diabetic control. I would suggest consulting a qualified nutritionist to chalk out a diet chart that would suit your needs and consider discussing the change in diabetic medications with your doctor. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar m tn in order to get to my goal weight. Other then Weight Watchers, can anyone recommend a diet or some kind of weight loss plan which has helped you. What I don't like about the current W.W. plan is keeping track of the points. It doesn't have enough structure for me the way the old W.W. plan did from the late 70's up until about 1997. The old "Exchange" plan told you what kinds and how many proteins, low fat dairy products, grains, starchy vegetables (i.e.
Avatar n tn Along with avoiding sugary foods a low to no carb diet plan is recommended for t2 diabetics. Carbs to t2 diabetics are the same as sugar - elevates our glucose [blood sugar] above and beyond acceptable levels. A very good place to look for low carb recipes is the Atkins [diet] web site http://tinyurl.com/atkins-recipes . Replace sugar with artificial sweeteners such as Splenda or Stevia.

Avatar m tn Since you are technically considered pre-diabetic at 100 I would encourage you to learn more about how diet, exercise and weight loss can slow down or prevent the progression to full-blown diabetes. Good luck to you.
Avatar m tn fast weight loss is most of the time lost water and muscles. Fat takes ages to go away. Third: Think of a diet as something permanent. Crash diets just help you gain weight faster once they are over. So, pick some simple rules of a balanced and healthy diet, and follow them. Don't sweat it if you crave for something "bad", to a balanced diet belongs the bad side, too. If you give in now to a small piece of chocolate, it is much better than to eat two whole packages later.
Avatar f tn Still I cannot lose weight. I am a pro-diabetic and it is very important that I lose weight. Please help!
Avatar n tn s possible for some people to reverse it. Through diet changes and weight loss, you may be able to reach and hold normal blood sugar levels without medication. This doesn't mean you're completely cured. Type 2 diabetes is an ongoing disease. Even if you're in remission, which means you aren't taking medication and your blood sugar levels stay in a healthy range, there's always a chance that symptoms will return.
