Common Questions and Answers about Diabetic diet beans

diabetes

Avatar f tn Is there any specific diet for diabetic patients? There are many articles online but confusing for which to follow. Some say fruits are bad, others say they are healthy, for example, bananas. Are there certain vitamins or supplements to take or any natural change of eating habits? It may vary from person to person but generally what should one eat to control levels of blood sugar.
Avatar f tn Right now its solely by diet, and it stays fine if I eat just meat with a tiny amount of veggies or bread, I can eat a little nuts and berries, but not enough to feel full or satisfied most times.
Evillady There is no "diabetic diet" its Carbohydrates that cause BG to rise. So reducing the carbs you eat will help in BG control. So I eat salad and steak, veggies, no fruit (fruit has a lot of carbs) eggs, bacon, cheese, chicken, fish, garlic, and lots of herbs and spices and hot spices. There are other diabetic news groups with recipe sections.
Tbd I eat veggies and fruits. I'm a Type 1 Diabetic and need to lose some weight. My doctor says I don't get enough protein in my diet to lose weight. I'm not a big fan of beans. What is a good source of protein for my case?

Avatar f tn adds salt and fat. Plus, this way you have a lot of beans. So I get a bowl of greens, add a scoop of beans, tomatoes, salsa, avocado, whatever you would like...delicious and healthy, hope this helps!
Avatar f tn I have been diabetic for over 30 years and Im 5'4 and 206 lbs and I exercise everyday as well as follow a proper diet and I cant seem to lose weight what else can I do to lose 70 lbs?
Avatar n tn Thank you for your comment. I should have provided more info but wanted to keep it brief. My weight is good and I do exercise - walking is what I love. There is a history of Type 11 on both sides of my family and I did have gestational diabetes back 40 years ago. And no obesity in family either. About 30 years ago, my mother insisted I be checked for diabetes, given the history.
Avatar n tn I've been a Brittle diabetic for almost 33 years, but this past year just recently got into some eye problems. My right eye started w/just a slight bleed. Then I was also diagnosed w/glaucoma, where Laser surgery was performed. This past week I had my 3 month check-up now slight bleed in left. I seen a retinal specicialist and he told me that he would like my A1C 6.3-6.8. I told him it is very difficult for me to get a lower A-1 C and I was never at 6.3 only when I was first diagnosed.
526889 tn?1212540641 For your age you need 1500 calories daily to safely lose weight. I would recommend a Heart Healthy diet which is a moderate fat diet. Moderate fat diet means = use polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats (high fat snack foods, butter, fat spreads) and no trans fats.
Avatar n tn Dear winkster, Actually a diabetic diet is really only what a healthy diet would be for people without diabetes. And fruits are a part of that even though they have sugar it get metabolized like any other carbohydrates.
Avatar f tn I have been diabetic for 15 years. I have never been on a diabetic diet. I would like to know what I can eat, like how many carbs, fat, fruit, etc. Please help.
Boy Is steak ok to eat for diabetics?
Avatar m tn t cut out carbs 100% from your diet. Include at least some form of complex carbs such as small sweet potatoes, barley, beans, legumes, lentils. Even diabetics need some carbs in their diets. Carbs fuel the body. I cant lay out a nutritional plan for you, as im not qualified. You will need to speak to your Dr, and or a nutritionist for that. But I do know if you eliminate carbs 100%, it will cause more harm than good.
Avatar f tn Hi my Hubby is a diabetic ( 10yrs+) on Insulin -I had him at the Dr-Blood Pressure ver high ( on med as well) but since the readings has been so high with sweats at night, also in the morning he has not has anythin to eat,but the sugar level stays high? 20.1/20/20.
Avatar f tn Hyperinsulinism is prediabetes. Insulin causes the body to store fat. PCOS is a separate issue, but they both cause weight gain/inability to lose. With preidiabetes and PCOS, I'd have to wonder if you've also had your thyroid tested to make sure you don't have hypothyroidism, since it's basically the thyroid that controls metabolism, specifically, a hormone called Free T3. With prediabetes, you need to eat foods that are on the low glycemic list.
Avatar f tn Eating more protein and fewer simple carbs are good. White beans, such as white kidney beans, chicpeas, aduzi beans, and other beans are good because they're high in protein and also in fibers that help control blood sugar and cholesterol. That's a start. To get more complete, try to find a holistic nutritionist.
Avatar f tn you need protein in your diet , a good source anyway like chicken ect, baked beans are yum but i would recommend a balanced diet the problem with baked beans is the also contain alot of carb's which are not good to have as a last meal of the day as you will store whatever you dont burn off. And this dose not mean you should avoid carbs because your body needs them aswell , when i did the lighter life diet i lost 4 stone but i felt like **** because it was low calorie and low carbs.
11634465 tn?1421827735 Hello everyone. I am new here. I'm seeking a really good support group for some advice as my type 2 diabetes is totally out of control. I recently made a decision to start eating healthier and exercising more as much as I can. I suffer from diabetic Nueropathy and it's very painful at times and makes exercise a very difficult task. But I'm trying.
Avatar f tn Hi my mother is patient of diabetic 2 she is 55 year old .
Avatar m tn Limit fruit to 3 servings/day because it tend to have a lot of sugar and if not used right away, turns to fat. Try to center your meals around vegetables, because they have a lot of nutrients and fiber for very few calories. Also stick to low/no fat dairy, lean meats, good fats (such as avocado, olive oil, etc). Nuts and seeds are a good addition, because of the nutrients, but limit them because of the fat, even though it's "good" fat.
6403373 tn?1381003248 Along with veggies, opt for lean protein, such as that from low/no fat dairy, meat, eggs, beans, etc. Opt for whole grains, rather than refined grains. Avoid as much processed food as possible.
