579670 tn?1218213544 Hi, i am doing Food technology GCSE and my coursework is to design and make a range of products suitable for a diabetic that could be sold in the healthy eating section of a supermarket. Part of my research is to produce a diabetic questionnaire asking relevant questions which would help me with my coursework. Since i do not know anybody with diabetes it would be very helpful if anyone with diabetes could complete the questionnaire. Many Thanks x 1. What type of dish do you enjoy most?
Avatar f tn Hi, to be diagnosed with diabetes so early in your pregnancy actually means that the diabetes was prexisting. Maybe it was just managed with diet and exercise before. I was in the same situation with my first pregnancy. Diagnosed pretty much as soon as I know i was pregnant. I managed it with diet and exercise up until about 3 months after which I was on insulin. For this new pregnancy (I am now 2 months), I started on insulin about 2 months before I got pregnant.
Avatar m tn Hi, with regards to eating fruit, I would say that it depends on your blood sugar response. If your blood sugar stays in target range when you eat an apple, or a portion of an apple, then you are fine. If i makes you go high, then best to avoid fruits. Alternative fruits such as berries and kiwi fruit tend to have less blood glucose impact compared to other sweet fruits. Size of serving also makes a difference. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I have been diabetic for over 30 years and Im 5'4 and 206 lbs and I exercise everyday as well as follow a proper diet and I cant seem to lose weight what else can I do to lose 70 lbs?
443878 tn?1205103196 I gained 90 pounds when I was pregnant, got gestational diabetes, turned into type II diabetes after I gave birth. I have tried every diet imaginable, and have not been able to lose much weight at all. I lost a few pounds when I started metformin medication, but have now stabilized again.
Avatar f tn ) but go for a walk or exercise after. The main thing is not eat too much. Protein helps alot so you stay fuller longer. And protein doesn't break down into sugars later.

1360484 tn?1277732214 Does anyone know of any quick low fat low calorie desserts I can make for my family?
Avatar n tn My target is less than 7. It depends on your doc and situation. It sounds like a number you shouldn't be too worried about - but discuss with your doc what they would like it to be.
Avatar n tn That is very strange! Have you ingested any over the counter medicines, products or foods? Nyquil, Listerine, fruit cake? That's the first thing that came to mind...Although, I know Nyquil is a huge no-no for pregnant women because it does contain a small trace of alcohol...and because of the holidays, many foods and desserts are spiked with traces of alcohol...other than that, I'm stumped. When can they tell you what it is from?
Avatar f tn My hospital set me up with a diabetic education class, and it helped tons.
872485 tn?1240603562 I had an A1C test and it came back at 6.4%. He said he wants me to follow a diabetic diet and exercise and have retest in 6 months. My fasting BS was 88, so that's good. I was told in college (I"m 34) that I had hypoglycemia and both my grandparents (one on each side) has diabetes. Does 6.4 mean I'm prediabetic? diabetic? Thanks!
Avatar f tn In the last 3 or 4 years I started trying out different forms of exercise. Running seemed to be the most effective, however I've developed some problems with my knees and right foot. I've also tried yoga (hatha, bikram), pilates, various types of bootcamp and recently the bar method - all of which I enjoy. If there's weightloss, I can usually see it in my face and upper body, however my problem areas are my abdomen, obliques and thighs.
Avatar f tn First thing is please stop worrying and keep a long term goal. Keep 10-15 pounds target for initial couple of months and to lose 100 pounds keep a target of 1 year. You have to stay focused on your long term goal and you have to cut down all junk food, fast food, desserts and prepare a customized diet chart for yourself with the help of a dietician. Be very sincere and be stern to achieve your goal.
8112046 tn?1396620403 I heard if you make a registry at Target, even if nobody buys things you can buy yourself & get 10% off. I wonder if that's true?
231441 tn?1333892766 Insulin should be used by any person who is not consistently achieving target blood sugar goals with lifestyle measures and 1 – 2 oral medications. Persons with Type 1 or Type 1.5 (both of which are autoimmune) should use insulin either alone or in combination with appropriate insulin sensitisers (usually metformin) if there is insulin resistance. So what should blood sugar goals be?
Avatar n tn Recently diagnosed pre diabetic. Fasting has been 92-111. Last 2 weeks. This orange "meter" in this app seems to say that's in range, but afraid it's too high. I am doing all I can to lower, have been very educated, thank God. Wondering how it can take for lifestyle changes to get it down. At what point is medication needed?
Avatar m tn Have you already been diagnosed as pre-diabetic or Type II diabetic? The cutoff between pre-diabetic and diabetic is 126 fasting so you are right on the cusp. It sounds like you are testing which is great. What else are you doing to control your diabetes? The three important things to do are change your diet, exercise and weight loss if you are overweight. If you are consistently doing these things and still getting high numbers it might be time to consider medicine.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone! I'm new to your Diabetes 2 Community but have been involved some with the MS community. I have Multiple Sclerosis but was diagnosed about 2 years ago with diabetes 2. When I first learned my blood sugar was high at 364, I immediately and without hesitation went on a diet and lost about 45 lbs. I did pretty good for a year and a half, but then I began eating sweets again. Plus, my best friend and Mom were very ill and dying, so I did a lot of stress eating.
Avatar m tn If I'm correct you target heart rate would be 136 BPM. I'm not saying to go out and hit that right away, work up to it and make sure you Dr knows that you are working out a bit. http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/GettingHealthy/PhysicalActivity/FitnessBasics/Target-Heart-Rates_UCM_434341_Article.
Avatar f tn No Sodas, sugary fruit punches or sugary coffee drinks, butter, lard, fried or fast foods, desserts and processed meats like hot dogs or pepperoni are all unhealthy sources of calories. Sodas and other items that are all or mostly sugar add to your daily calorie total without giving you any nutritional benefit. An 19 year old girl should have no more than 160 empty calories per day. Reducing the amount of empty calories a teen eats regularly will make weight loss easier.
