Avatar n tn I am so sorry. My Mom also went into diabetic coma and was blind for a time but she get better. Blessings to your Mom and to all of you.
Avatar f tn The first CAT scan showed no sign of infartations or bleeding, so she was misdiagnosed with vertigo and spent the whole day at the hospital until she finally lost consciousness late in the evening. A second cat Scan revealed two stroke locations in the cerebellum. After about 15 hours she had a decompression surgery to allow room for the swelling and prevent other areas of her brain to be affected.
Avatar n tn Came home the other day after being in a diabetic coma for 5 days,bg was 2,500.00 when brought into er,Now I notice I'm more sensitive to my novolog insulin,Is this normal? Also what is the highest bg have you heard of and a person survived with no severe damage?I just have a moderate loss in my motor skills.
686233 tn?1227213145 My step sister is in ICU from a diabetic coma. When I found her, she was barely breathing, and she was probably in a coma about 5 hours before help arrived. Now she has been in the coma around 27 hours. The doctors are talking about brain damage from lack of oxygen. When they tickle her feet, her toes go straight instead of curling up. How long does people usually stay in this type of coma and what's with her toes not curling up?
1080243 tn?1262975363 I am not a doctor, but I am a type 1 Diabetic. Here is what Mayo Clinic says about Diabetic coma: If you have diabetes, dangerously high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) or dangerously low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) can lead to a diabetic coma. If you lapse into a diabetic coma, you're alive — but you can't awaken or respond purposefully to sights, sounds or other types of stimulation. Left untreated, a diabetic coma can be fatal. A diabetic coma doesn't strike out of the blue.
209227 tn?1242346745 Diabetic coma: Coma in a diabetic due to the buildup of ketones in the bloodstream. Ketones are a product of metabolizing (using) fats rather than the sugar glucose for energy. The best approach to diabetic coma is prevention. Careful diet, medication, and insulin dosing as needed should prevent ketone build-up. Patients with diabetes and their family members should be aware of the early signs of ketone build-up.
Avatar n tn which can cause liver damage and if your cat is diabetic it will cause ketoacidosis that goes from vomiting to coma an death. The thing is that your cat is healthy now, but they have tons of kidney problems when they get old...and a diet that's stressing the kidneys or liver since they're small can increase the chances of kidney and livet failure a lot.
Avatar f tn I asked a question on the 20th of October 2008 about my mom that has brain damage after diabetic coma. Have'nt received any reply. Where do I get a reply from please? Have been checking all the time but had no luck.
Avatar f tn Make sure she is not taking to much meds this happen a lot to my mom I also have diabetes
Avatar f tn m just tiring to understand what happened. If anyone could lend some insite on the process of diabetic coma I would be very greatful as a autopsy will not be done. Here's what I know happened. The last call he made was Saturday morning. I found him the following Friday morning deceased on the floor. They estimate he had been deceased for approx 2 days. His last blood sugar reading was over 600 on his meter and there was vomit in the bath tub.
Avatar n tn His blood sugar was over 600 and we assumed he had gone into a diabetic coma even though he had never been diagnosed as being diabetic. His blood pressure was extremely low and his heart rate over 100, at one point around 170. He saw his physician the previous Monday after a bout with nausea and was given a steroid shot because the doctor believed he had a stomach flu. The next day, he almost passed out and the paramedics were called. They checked his vital signs and said he was OK.
Avatar n tn My ex-brother in law was in a diabetic coma for 4 days. He has 100% brain loss. He just woke from the coma and is looking around his room. How can you has 100% brain loss, but be conscious?
Avatar m tn My girlfriend is currently in a diabetic coma, and she have pneumonia. Do to the fact that she's in a coma, her body is not fighting the infection, and shutting down. Doctors say she could have a chance at life if they do surgery to drain the lungs, but she could die during the surgery if it too much for her. My question is could she live ?
866901 tn?1505506236 My cat, Jax, is diabetic- I have to do random blood sugar curves. Well I have one coming up in Feb that I have to do- I do them myself to save money on the vet plus he gets so scared and traumatized after seeing the vet they may not get accurate results. My question is do you know anywhere I can get cheap test strips? Or a glucometer with the sample 10 strips for relatively cheap?
Avatar m tn I have a diabetic cat, "Lickety Split", that is on 5 units 2X/day of Lantus. He has been urinating all over our home for the past two years. Despite the exhausting amount of methods I have read or been advised to do, the inappropriate elimination has continued and we have had to tear up carpets, throw out items, constant every day cleaning soiled areas.... Two years ago, I had questioned whether it might be diabetes because of s/s he was displaying.
Avatar n tn If we can help him survive till tomorrow he WILL go to the vet but I need some advice to ensure that he makes it through the night. Help!!!
Avatar f tn My brother, who is a 60 year old type 2 diabetic, was found unconscious this week. Nobody knows for how long. Best guess is 8 hrs. My guess is that he is in a hypoglycemic coma. His glucose level was 120 when he was halo flown to the hospital he is at now. I don't know what he was given at the other hospital to raise that number but I believe it was much lower when he was found. I need to know if this is a survivable event.
Avatar m tn Hello Alicat_uk, Just finished reading your comments. Like your cat, our cat called Sammy, was formerly diabetic. We had to give Sammy various doses of insulin for awhile as well. Periodically, Sammy was being given fructosamine tests to measure the amount of sugar in his blood. Eventually, our vet said that according to the last fructosamine test she did , Sammy was no longer diabetic and no longer needed the insulin shots. Anyway, that was about a year ago and Sammy is not longer diabetic.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately my cat died today as she went into a coma. Her health was not very good to start with - renal impairmentn and anemia - and it is most likely that the low potassium levels was "what broke the camel's back". My vet is a very good vet, I don't know what he was thinking when he put her on Lasix.
Avatar n tn 30 am in front of my house in the curb of the street. He wouldn't come to my call and when I went to him he was sitting with his head down. I took him inside and examined him. There were no external injuries, no blood from ears, nose or mouth. The can didn't respond to pain in any area of his body. At first I thought he was poisened. When I let him free he was circling and head pressing into a corner and would repeat everytime I removed him from the corner.
Avatar f tn I'm looking for an honest answer here whether brutal or not. My 60 yr. old, diabetic brother was found unconscious this week. His blood sugar tested at 120 after he was halo flown to a bigger hospital in Austin. I don't know what it was when he was found but his history makes me think much lower. He could have been unconscious for 8 hrs. before he was found. No one knows for certain. He has movement but the dr said probably involuntary and eyes open but not tracking anything.
Avatar n tn I just went through my testing for diabetes and it came back at 116, which my doctor tell me I have diabetes. Now I am taking 5 different meds and feel really upset. I think I should just loose my weight and change my diet. I am overweight by 70 pounds. From everything I have read, I am more pre-diabetic than anything and need to loose my weight. I am not sure what to do? I really don't like taking medicine.
