Avatar f tn About two months ago, I started a fitness boot camp. I could not define a point of injury, but started feeling pain in the lower left side of my back. I went to my doctor and she thought it might be kidneys or ovarian problems. Blood tests came back great. I've now had three chiropractic adjustments and am feeling no real relief. My Dr. prescribed Medrol which I finished taking over a week ago. I have also been taking Vicodin and Flexeril.
Avatar n tn Otherwise, you can go to the American Diabetes Association website and they have a whole list of every diabetic camp in the US. So there might be one close to where ever you live! And unfortunately they are kinda expensive because you're also paying for the insulin they provide and other medical stuff. When I was a camper the program I did was roughly $500. But the local Lions Club paid for me to go.
Avatar f tn I do not always label people with diabetes if they now have normal blood sugars when off all medications. That does not fit the diagnostic guideline. What I do say is that there is a HISTORY of diabetes, and this is important to include because even if blood sugars become normal again, you will be at higher risk than normal for going back towards high glucoses in the future. Hope this answers your question. take care.
163305 tn?1333668571 DHEISHEH REFUGEE CAMP, occupied West Bank (IPS) - Asmahan Ramadan and her family have taken thousands of photos on the rooftop of their home. Not of themselves, or of the overcrowded Dheisheh refugee camp they see every day, but of the vegetables that they grow. “It’s like raising a child,” said Ramadan, smiling widely under the netting of the small greenhouse on the rooftop of her apartment building.
178345 tn?1242536246 I was so happy today when I went into WAWA (which is a convienent store like 7 ELeven throughout NJ) and when I approached the register there was a contribution box supporting the Gilda Radner Foundation! I have never seen one specifically for OVCA...Its about time! I always see Diabetes, MS, Muscular Dystrophy, etc....Maybe the word is finally getting out there...I truly hope so! I just wanted you all to know I made a donation in honor of you all.....
Avatar n tn If you are in the US or in one of the worldwide areas that has a branch of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), give them a call and ask them for a list of pediatric endocrinologists in your area. It is so very important that children with diabetes are cared for by specialists. Your GP sounds ill-informed about diabetes. Here are the symptoms of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) taken from a publically available page on the JDRF website (www.jdrf.
Avatar n tn I just read a letter from "Josephsmother" dated about Jan. 24 2004. In this letter she asked about depression and diabetes, and listed several symptoms of depression that her son was experiencing. Among the symptoms was Self Loathing. Having been diagnosed Type 1 fourtyseven years ago at 5 yrs. of age, I can relate to the self loathing, feeling embarrased, and generally "different than". I appear here not with a question, but a suggestion based on experience.
599170 tn?1300973893 I donate to sponsor a child in Zambia through World Vision, and I also sponsor a child through a youth mission in Mexico that is also sponsored by my church (the mission is sponsored by my church, and individuals sponsor the children). I donate to my local Christian radio station each month as well, and whenever I get a chance to donate a dollar at PetsMart for homeless pets, I do.
Avatar n tn m a worrier and i want to know what i can possibly do to make life any easier for him if it should turn out he has diabetes, i dont want him to suffer in the slightest so i just want to help him. any ideas?
Avatar n tn I remember hearing that years ago. I have heard every single example of genetics with diabetes of both types from the skipped generation to "nobody in my family" to parents, to siblings, etc. I think genetics and diabetes is complex. I absolutely would not be confident that the children won't get diabetes. Type 2 diabetes which previously affected only middle aged people has become much more common in overweight youth.

Avatar m tn We are bringing up our 6 year old grandson. I sent him to camp for the first time yesterday. When i picked him up aftercamp, he said that he didn't want to go back. He is afraid of noises, so i don't want to traumaetized, but I want him to try it for at least this week. What should I do? By the way, he does have extreme fear of noises.
Avatar n tn When I went back to school everyone had questions for me and I was always different. I was very involved with the American Diabetes Association and attended the diabetes youth congress one year and a summer camp for diabetics until I was too old to go (16). I worked with other young diabetics to start a teen support group in my area if just to meet up once a month and go out with other people that understanded what I was going through as well.
Avatar n tn Dear MomNancy, Thank you for reaching out to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. I am not a doctor and am not qualified to give you medical advice. However I can give you my own personal experience. A blood sugar of 156 is outside the guidelines for someone without diabetes. It can depend on when you tested her and the last time she had had a meal. I would however recommend that you take her to her pediatrician as soon as possible just to be sure.
Avatar n tn My niece went to a diabetic camp when she was 16. It helped her out a lot. I think it was a week long camp that she went to in West Virginia. I don't know what camp or where she found it, but they are out there. I guess you will have to search. I would think they would have a web page. try a google search for diabetic camps. If I talk to my brother any time soon I will ask him if he remembers what camp his daughter went to. I wish you and your niece well in this trying time.
Avatar n tn Mississippi has the "Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi" which helps folks out with issues like this when insurance companies won't pay for supplies, meds, etc. When we moved from Ala back to MS in May they gave my child 1 months supply of Lantus--they will also give $ if they do not have the supplies you need-you may want to check with the Diabetes Foundation of your state....
Avatar n tn m not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. You sound like you are doing fairly well in trying to manage your diabetes, and you should be commended for that. I can't find any research which says that marijuana lowers blood sugars. The little clinical results I've found actually say the opposite, that it will raise blood sugars.
Avatar n tn htm Also, if you go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Website, the have a blurb about financial assitance for diabetes (see below) COPIED FROM the JDRF website: http://www.jdrf.org/index.cfm?page_id=103442#ocho "There are pharmaceutical assistance programs offered directly by some drug companies for people with diabetes who have little or no insurance to help offset the cost of supplies or prescription medications.
Avatar n tn Yes, you can. You may want to contact the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), an organization that raises money to give to research towards a cure. They have a website, www.jdrf.
Avatar n tn Most cost effective test strips that I've found are Relion-sold at Walmart stores and www.relion.com-about 46 cents per test strip. Relion meter is inexpensive and works well. You must address the meds issue with your doctor.
