Used to be you could eat what you wanted but you were so active that it never got a chance to pool on the body. Many times diabetes disappears with the weight. Our lifestyle is not conducive to healthy lifestyle.

I dont look healthy at all and my family has a history of obesity and many health problems come with it. I want to prevent these health issues and start living/eating/working out right. Avatar f tn It sounds like you are suffering from Acanthosis nigricans. It is a condition when too much insulin spills over into the skin causing a dark brown (bruise-like/dirt like) patch on the skin. It is common in the areas you mentioned. It is closely tied with obesity and diabetes. I have a family history of diabetes (I don't have it), but I did have a dark brown patch under my arms. I began to exercise and eat healthy and some of the patches have disappeared.

Avatar m tn Agree and the problem is getting worse and worse. Kids need to be out playing instead of sitting in front of video games developing diabetes for example. New York City just lowered not only its fat allowances in food but also now salt. Which is sad cause what is NYC without a salt pretzel and hot dog from the corner vendor.
Avatar f tn Alot of people believe that if they just lose weight they could get rid of their diabetes and there are even doctors on tv commercials in my area that stated they have the cure for diabetes but from what I have learned from my diabetes educator is that if you are obese and that your diabetes is coming from obesity you can lose weight and then be able to manage your diabetes with diet and exercise.

" If you meant hereditary as in inheriting the diabetes gene/s from one or both parents, the answer is yes. Often children subconsciously pick up on parents diabetic bad habits and carry them into their own adulthood, considered non-hereditary.
