Avatar n tn Unlike this forum, which is set up specifically for discussion about type 1 diabetes (even though many visitors to this site seem to be type 2), the site mentioned here seems to encompass all types of diabetes. There is even a posting with a question about treatment of a diabetic border collie! Please do take note that the two types of diabetes are VERY different in treatment and in cause. So information that is specific to one type may not apply at all to the other type.
Avatar n tn I have had type 1 diabetes for 10 years for at least 3 years have been suffering cfs type symptems, swollen glands, headache, burning eyes sensation and generally feeling awful from head to toe.I was also found to have low cortisol but when i had the synachtathan?(i know its spelt wrong)test my stress response was normal. Also i had low testosterone which has now been rectified, non of this has helped.
Avatar n tn , antibodies to insulin, the 65-kDa isoform of GAD, and/or to the protein tyrosine phosphatase-related IA-2/islet cell autoantibody (ICA)-512 molecule, are characterized by a high risk of progression to overt diabetes, and that a screening strategy based on the analysis of insulin autoantibodies and GAD and IA-2 antibodies is highly successful in the assessment of type 1 diabetes risk in adolescents.
Avatar f tn As you have now been defined as being a pre-diabetic, you must have been insulin resistant. Insulin resistance is the precursor to pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes and as weight increases, cells become more resistant to the insulin that the pancreas produces. Ask your doctor to refer you to a diabetic dietician to help you understand about diet. The types of foods to avoid are those that are highly processed and have high quantities of sugar.
Avatar m tn I reversed my diabetes in just 11 days - by going on a starvation diet... "Scientists at Newcastle University had devised a radical low-calorie diet that studies suggested could reverse diabetes in under eight weeks. This involved eating just 800 calories a day (a man’s recommended intake is 2,500) — 600 calories from meal replacement shakes and soups and 200 calories from green vegetables. You also drink three litres of water a day.
Avatar n tn I know I am insulin dependent because I cannot take my pump off except for the rare few minutes or so without my sugar sky rocketing. Now would u still call this Type 2 Diabetes or Type 1? Hearing the words Juvenile Diabetes associated with Type 1 throws me off obviously because I was not diagnosed as a juvenile. But also the words Insulin Dependent are associated with the Type 1. So I DO fit into that category.
Avatar n tn I am an adult with type 1 and I am about to embark on my first international travel since I have had type 1. There are so many restrictions with carrying food on board, liquids, gels etc. I have spoken to airlines and they can't tell me the finer details - they just say I need to get a letter from my doctor. I need to carry food items with me at all times and am feeling very anxious about going through security procedures.
Avatar n tn Some people are able to control Type 2 diabetes with losing and maintaining healthy weight, lowering carb intake and regular exercise. Some are not, and need medication. It is impossible to answer your question because every diabetic is different and it would depend on how high your numbers were to begin with and what you ate and did. Serious consequences (complications) from diabetes don't occur in 24 hours, they occur over time spent at high numbers.
Avatar n tn m glad to say that i dont think you have diabetes, i have suffered form diabetes type 1 for nearly 7 years. Normaly in the onset of diabetes you will be constantly thirsty, needing to urinate alot, have a lack of energy and feel sick, they are the common simptoms for diabetes. In the onset your sugar level will be high not lower and will normaly be the start if DKA (diabetes ketone acidocis). 7.7 is an good level.

1698156 tn?1306789313 yes my dad is borderline type two diabetes and my great grandmother had type 1 we have t wait until my blood test results come back it shouldnt take too long though i have to go back to school on monday anyway end of holidays i hope it was a one time incident as well if it turns out when we get the tests back that it shows diabetes then that would explain why skipping breakfast triggered it i get alot of symptoms associated with it as well im always thirsty and get skin rashes all the time wei
Avatar n tn I understand that people with uncontrolled or long standing type 2 diabetes can progress to "type 1" diabetes where the pancreas can no longer make insulin or no longer make enough insulin (even with drug support to increase insulin production / increase tissue sensitivity to insulin).
Avatar f tn G at home with FULL time Care the last 10 years, recently due to wound his Diabetic condition has worsened and now needs injections rather than pills, Of course his sugar levels have risen shapely and his local NHS dietician says she cannot supply (diabetes-specific formulas) through the NHS, so please can you direct me to where I can purchase such Formulas High in M.U.F.
Avatar m tn In the UK, diabetes test measurements are presented as mmol/l [millimoles/liter]. Normal fasting mmo/l glucose [blood sugar] ranges are 3.88 to 5.5 mmol/l. If your "gone up to 18points" is a fasting 18 mmol/l you are in the danger zone of having serious life threatening health issues. Please educate yourself on the hows/what-to-do's on diabetes control and management before its too late.
Avatar n tn I've noticed that there are many newly diagnosed Type 1 Youths that are engaging in the sport of Cross Country running. This is wonderful because it must be the hardest sport to regular blood glucose (bg) for. This says a lot about our kids. My daughter is 16 yrs old and was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes last August just before the beginning of her first year of cross country. She's always excelled in sports especially those that require a lot of running and tough training.
Avatar n tn I also noted the JAMA reminder/caution that food does not cause Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease. This study and others looked at the impact of specific foods/timing of introduction in at-risk children. Please know that Type 2 is a completely different disease than Type 1. Type 1 is autoimmune, and researchers are striving to find out what triggers (or doesn't) trigger the disease. Type 2 has completely different origins.
Avatar f tn A glucose test is when they test for gestational diabetes, you drink this orange sweet drink and then an hour later they take your blood. Not sure if it's in the UK or not, but I don't see why it wouldnt be.
Avatar n tn Hi Dalki, Yes, in time your doctor will likely know for sure which type of diabetes you have. In addition to Type 1 and Type 2, there seems to be a type 1.5 ... tho' there's some thought that 1.5s are just in the early stages of Type 1. We DMers (folks with diabetes mellitis) and our docs often call that a honeymoon phase. I hope you're feeling better now that your bloodsugar has begun to come down. Things may remain volatile for a while, so try to be patient with yourself.
