Avatar n tn You may try low carb eating, which is very helpful for blood sugar management. Type 1 grit is a group with great support and information on low carb eating for diabetes management. Look also into Dr. Richard Bernstein's Diabetes SOlutions book and Diabetes University (Utube), which has great and useful series of lectures on managing blood sugars. A CGM (continuous glucose monitoring device) can also be very useful, though frequent finger prick testing is also ok.
Avatar n tn I would suggest that you see if you can qualify for Medicaid or if your state has programs to help people with disabilities, to get there medications. Most states do have some programs. People with diabetes fall under the American with disabilities act. Contact your department of social services they will be able to help you, or your department of health and human services.
Avatar n tn I have just found out I am pregnant, and I have type one Diabetes. I did not take any prenatal vitamins. Are there vitamins I should be taking throughout the pregnancy? I have no Idea what to expect...please any advice will be appreciated!!!
Avatar n tn There have been recent studies that have created a gray area between the two regarding age and developing diabetes. It was generally thought that type 2 was always assumed to strike people who were older, well into adulthood. While I am sure more research needs to be done, I have heard reports with our children being less active because of our lifestyle and fast foods, obesity in children is rising and some as young as 13 are being diagnosed with type 2. I hope this helps.
Avatar n tn i was wondering if someone could email me recent informative information or a website to where i could find infomation on depression in teens wih type 1 diabetes !! thanks !
Avatar n tn Hi Dalki, Yes, in time your doctor will likely know for sure which type of diabetes you have. In addition to Type 1 and Type 2, there seems to be a type 1.5 ... tho' there's some thought that 1.5s are just in the early stages of Type 1. We DMers (folks with diabetes mellitis) and our docs often call that a honeymoon phase. I hope you're feeling better now that your bloodsugar has begun to come down. Things may remain volatile for a while, so try to be patient with yourself.
Avatar n tn CLBear, You might enjoy a diabetes discussion board that's got topics for Type 2s and Type 1s and for the stuff we share. I highly recommend this site: http://chat.joslin.harvard.edu:8080/~diabetes You don't need to register to read the information there, but you may need to register to post (it's free, tho'). Folks who post can choose to be anonymous.
283921 tn?1218525506 When I had a heart attack (MI) in 1992 I was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic and was advised of the need to take insulin for the rest of my life.As the years went by and my insulin intake increased along with my weight but my sugar level remained fairly consistent HbA1c approx 7.2. In 2005 I decided on a life style change predominantly targeted at reducing my weight and found that I could reduce my insulin intake.
1341894 tn?1276125780 I don't know anything about Agent Orange and diabetes. Perhaps you can do a search on it. I also belong to a website with 15,000 members and if you send me a private message I'll give you that site as there are many more diabetics (and the people they may know) that might have some information. As for your type> Type 2 diabetes does not " turn into" Type 1.
Avatar n tn Anyone have any clue what I should say to people or doctors when they ask me if I have type one or type two diabetes? i look like a complete idiot when i dont know how to answer that question!
574170 tn?1277941303 Only your girlfriend's Doctor can determine whether she needs shots or some type of medication which comes in pill form. It is my understanding that with the Type 2 Diabetes, a person would be started on pill medication. If her blood levels are not controlled (go too high) her doctor MAY increase the pills. (That is what happened to me initially) There are patients in my Diabetes class who have gone from pills to Pills + Insulin, or Pills plus another medication.
Avatar f tn There are no medical professionals here this is a community of patients. For a true second opinion you should consult with a doctor. That being said I did google geographical tongue as I had never heard of this condition. I did find: “What causes geographic tongue? A: The cause of geographic tongue is unknown. Several factors have been proposed as possible causes such as emotional stress, psychological factors, habits, allergies, diabetes and hormonal disturbances.
Avatar n tn Did they tell you if you were borderline Type 1 or Type 2. The two types are totally different. In type one the body stops producing insulin and a person needs to either take shots or have an insulin pump to get the insulin needed to live. Type 2 diabetes, the body produces insulin, but cannot use it properly with out medications, usually oral medication.

Avatar n tn First of all Type 2 diabetes does run in the family. I had gestational diabetes in two of my pregnancies. Lately but not everysingle day however more often now I am continuously feeling nausiated, at times a headache or mild diziness with it. At times I go to the toilet feeling as if I am going to vomit (but I dont). I am absolutely not pregnant (I had a tubal ligation). there are times when I get shaky or irritable or feel a head rush without food. I am 5'4" inches tall.
Avatar f tn My daughter is 38 and has had type 1 for 30 years. Over the last two years she has put on considerable weight which is making her depressed, she has also recently broken her leg and is finding it really hard to manage on the crutches because of her weight. Is there any regime she can follow to try and reduce her weight. When fit she does swim once a week and also attends Bokwa classes.
Avatar n tn s awesome that you want to educate yourself on diabetes! There are lots of places to get information, here are two good places to start: Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation <a href="http://www.diabetes.org/type-1-diabetes.
Avatar f tn In fact, my aunt was on insulin with type two diabetes. Kind of like me, she was on diet/exercise for 10 years, but then she had to have a hysterectomy and her glucose went up and was put on insulin soon afterwards. Sadly, she died of a heart attack at 65. Then her daughter, my cousin (who was never over-weight, by the way) began to have some problems with her glucose levels in her 40's. Her doctor was "watching it.
Avatar n tn Dear Kimberly, i would get her to a doctor for A BLOOD TEST AS SHE MAY BE STARTING THE SYMPTOMS OF DIABETES TYPE 1.
