Common Questions and Answers about Diabetes type one cure

diabetes

Avatar n tn No one here with PCOS? People with Type 1 diabetes can get PCOS. My aunt had type 1, which she developed as a teen and was insulin dependent her entire life, and she also had PCOS. She died at age 58 from heart disease. I too have PCOS, but I have type 2 diabetes. After years of dealing with low blood sugar and many other debilitating symptoms, including fatigue and severe PMS, I became diabetic overnight. I'm sorry to say that there is no cure for PCOS. It can only be treated.
Avatar n tn If you are type 2, the diabetes can often be very well managed with low carb diet and exercise (read Dr. Richard Bernstein's "Diabetes Solutions"). However, if your pancreas is not working then insulin or meds are the way to go, in addition to diet and exercise management.
Avatar m tn I agree that type one diabetes is manageable. Does your loved one work with anyone in the office like a nurse to help get stabilized and used to checking levels and things like that?
Avatar n tn With all the research going on, stem cell and otherwise, I believe they are making great progress towards a cure. We are learning more and more everyday about diabetes and how it works. I think that if the government really got on board and started some serious funding we could have this disease licked in under a decade. Look what a $10 million bounty did for the space program! To answer your question though, yes I do think that they will find a cure soon.
Avatar m tn What you don't say is if your friend is on insulin and if she counts the carbs in her meals to ensure she is taking the correct doses. If she is, and monitoring her diet than she should be able to control her numbers much of the time. There is no permanent cure for diabetes but the correct use of insulin is the way to keep it under control.
1644823 tn?1330055975 "It is curable with gastric bypass surgery." Gastric Bypass Surgery curing diabetes in obese people has been bouncing around since 2004. When people with gastric bypass regain their weight, and some of them do, their diabetes comes right back. The so-called curable part is with OBESE people having 35 to >40 BMI, their diabetes being mainly caused by their obesity. GBS does not guaranty diabetes reversal nor can it be considered a cure.
Business man2 As oskarose suggests, buy a blood glucose meter and begin testing. Don't diet, but rather change your lifestyle of eating. Delete as many carbohydrates from your life as you possibly can. Replace them with nuts and other proteins and healthy fats. Remember...... One you've reached Type II status, you will always be a diabetic. There is no cure. But you can be a controlled diabetic, and with a little work and sacrifice achieve near normal blood tests.
Avatar n tn But many studies are working on cures for type 1 diabetes, and some are even doing human testing. One I know of was calling for human volunteers a few years ago -- it was working with proteins that had been discovered in lab animals to stimulate the animals to begin producing their own insulin when they were type 1 animals. The question being researched was whether people would respond the same way, by growing insulin-producing cells.
Avatar f tn My daughter was diagnosised with Type 1 Diabetes Aug 2008. We have learned how to inject insulin and check her blood sugar numbers. We keep her on a pretty strick diet to ensure that we keep her Blood Sugar Numbers between 80-180. The past two days she has been very low. We have tried to make sure that the insulin that we give her is only enough to cover the food that she has eaten. However, just today, she woke up with her blood sugar #s at 64. She ate about 32 carbs for breakfast.
Avatar n tn I totally agree. Look at the website closely. There is no medical information, no confirmation from medical or traceable sources at all and no explanation of how this "magic" is supposed to happen. It sure looks like a "get rich" scheme to me. The patients listed are only named with first names, and there is no attempt to legitimize the claims other than what the seller is saying.
Avatar m tn This is absolutely a myth. There is no cure for Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetics produce insufficient insulin and need insulin to live. People want easy answers and for Type 1 diabetes there aren't any - not yet anyway. There are many types of natural treatments that are said to help Type 2 diabetes. Perhaps they do. But nothing helps as much as reducing carbs, losing weight and getting regular exercise.

Avatar n tn My daughter was diagnoised with Diabetes while she was going through Chemotherapy for Leukemia when she was 3. The chemo caused the diabetes and I was told that once the chemo was over that the diabetes would go away; well they were wrong!
Avatar m tn As of today there is no cure for diabetes. There is a good chance many people can reverse their condition through lifestyle changes by first adhering to the basics; a diabetic nutrition low in carbohydrates, maintaining normal body weight, and performing daily exercise. One has to continue to do all three or health issues can return. ie; meaning one can not return to the lifestyle that made them diabetes in the first place.
Avatar f tn There are those that say that diabetes type 2 was brought on by diet and that it can be corrected by diet. Those that utter those words are not in the medical field, they are however doctors of nutrition and body chemistry a subject most doctors are never taught in medical school since they are learning more about how to dispense drugs.
