Common Questions and Answers about Diabetes type 2 symptoms long term complications

Avatar n tn Sometimes diagnosis (especially Type 2) comes after having the underlying condition for a long time and so symptoms have, as you point out, accumulated over time. While it may feel like a "long time" sicne diagnosis, you body was stressed for even longer before then and it may take time for your system to return to normal and to FEEL normal. The best goal you can shoot for is normal blood sugars, because it's the elevated blood sugars that lead to most of the complications.
Avatar m tn i was diagnosed Diabetes type 2 in december 2010..I want to know that if someone is diabetic, how much he will live ???
Avatar n tn Some people are able to control Type 2 diabetes with losing and maintaining healthy weight, lowering carb intake and regular exercise. Some are not, and need medication. It is impossible to answer your question because every diabetic is different and it would depend on how high your numbers were to begin with and what you ate and did. Serious consequences (complications) from diabetes don't occur in 24 hours, they occur over time spent at high numbers.
Avatar n tn I have had type 1 diabetes for 38 years (I'm 48) with only eye complications (cataracts and minimal hemorrhaging - sight is 20/20 corrected). However, over the past year, I've had pain / stiffness in my left shoulder, wrist, elbow, hip, knee, and ankle..and it's getting worse, impacting everything I do. The pain worsens only AFTER I've done a simple activity including walking down the hall, typing on the computer, or lying flat.
Avatar m tn Hello, This is my first post, so I'm sorry if it's in the wrong forum. OK so I'm 19 years old, male, I've been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last summer, and I'm using Lantus 24hr along with Novo Rapid insulin for meals because pills are bad for my kidney and liver in the long-term (so says doctor). I've been having a lot of hypoglycemia recently too. But my question here is about Masturbation in relationship with glucose levels.
Avatar n tn I recently attended a diabetes forum. There were several hundred people there. In between speakers, they held sort of a "recognition awards" for long-term type 1 diabetics. It was sort of a contest to see who had been using insulin the longest. The "winner" had been using insulin for over 60 years and several others had been for over 50 years. The greatest part of this presentation was that all looked like typical older people -- but they all looked healthy.

Avatar m tn 6 months ago i was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes i am not on any medication for this but i have a lot of vaginal itching inside and out also my arm pits please help can this be normal .
Avatar n tn Although there's no cure for type 2 diabetes, studies show it's possible for some people to reverse it. Through diet changes and weight loss, you may be able to reach and hold normal blood sugar levels without medication. This doesn't mean you're completely cured. Type 2 diabetes is an ongoing disease.
Avatar f tn I just realized that I haven't seen my diabetes specialist in about three years. On my last visit she "discharged" me to the care of my internist. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about 5 years ago, at age 62. My glucose levels are stable at around 110, hB!ac 5.9. I've recently lost 25 kg, do some mild exercise and feel good. I'm taking metformin twice a day (750 mg).
Avatar f tn I wanted to ask that if I have not developed any complications so far and stop my unhealthy eating habits, am I likely to develop complications in the near or distant future (because I have eaten junk regularly ever since my diabetes type 2 diagnosis was made). I would really appreciate your advice. Thanks, Katie This discussion is related to Losing weight to fight diabetes.
Avatar n tn More important how long has this person been a type 1? I am 42 years old and was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at age 2. I have many complications now. I'm surprised I made it this long.
Avatar n tn Hello SaturnStroll, NOne of us here is a physician, but we're pretty experienced and knowledgeable about this disease. Many overweight folks who develop diabetes have Type 2, but you haven't mentioned whether you have Type 2 or Type 1. Do you know which type you have? Folks with Type 2 who return to a healthy weight can often stop taking meds and can control their diabetes with exercise and a sensible diet.
Avatar n tn Hi again, Handsome -- I've coined my own term -- at least I *think* I've invented it. I use the term "DMer" much like someone might say a person so runs is a runner; a person who jogs is a jogger. We who manage our diabetes mellitus are DMers in my vocabulary.
Avatar n tn It is thought that lack of Vitamin C in the cells could aggravate the development long term complications of diabetes.
Avatar n tn Sorry to be so.....forward, but the complications suck. Just type in complications to diabetes in a google search.
Avatar m tn Almost all long term diabetic , type one or type 2, will suffer leg pains aka as nerve pains. To prevent further nerve damage or pains, one must maintain blood sugar less than 140 at ALL TIMES and the hgA1C must be less than 5.6%, I was there, Now I don't have such pains no more.
