Avatar n tn Intermitten hyperglycemia can be caused by many things. It can also be symptoms of type 1 diabetes. If she does not have diabetes, I would talk to her doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment. Please keep in touch and let us know how your daughter is.
Avatar n tn You may not know that a dry mouth which can feel like thirst is one of the symptoms of hypoglycemia as well as diabetes. And logic tells us that if your mouth is dry and you are drinking lots of fluids, you will urinate often. I am a tightly-controlled type 1 diabetic, and the dry mouth feeling that I get when my glucose is low is almost identical to the sensation of having high blood sugar.
Avatar n tn Any patient treated with atypical antipsychotics should be monitored for symptoms of hyperglycemia including polydipsia, polyuria, polyphagia, and weakness. Patients who develop symptoms of hyperglycemia during treatment with atypical antipsychotics should undergo fasting blood glucose testing.
Avatar f tn Weight has nothing to do with, if your diabetic or not. As for you Hgb(iron count), 20 is way too high. Normal range of Hgb for women: 13-16mg/dl. I donĀ“t know what type of physician your seeing, but you do have some diabetic symptoms and this "physician" is not capable of observing symptoms nor does he have medical criteria. Recomendation: Buy a personal blood glucose unit and monitor your results.
Avatar f tn You have posted on the type 2 forum, hyperglycemia, not type 1 aka juvenile diabetes. Prepare yourself to ask your doctor questions by using Google and search on 'hyperglycemia testing' and/or 'type 1 diabetes testing'. Also, call the doctor's office and ask if you should fast 8-10 hours prior. To add to allymarbles, an endocrinologist is a doctor who specializes in diabetes care and treatment. Most PCP's know only basic care - here take this pill, call me later.
Avatar n tn I am not a physical but a volunteer and the mom of a type one, and daughter of a type 2. I would suggest you contact an endocrinologist that can better answer that question and diagnosis you with hyperglycemia 0or diabetes, which are their specialties. If the first one you go to does not help, get a second opinion. Sorry I could not be of more help.
Avatar m tn Fasting hyperglycemia can happen with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is caused by lack of insulin and the treatment is injected insulin, exercise and careful management of diet. Type 2 is initially caused by insulin resistance and there will initially be high levels of insulin that cannot be properly used by the body. Treatment can be diet, exercise, weight loss, and medications.
Avatar n tn I am a Type 1 diabetic, so I am not as familiar with Type 2 diabetes-which I think you are describing. I did look up on http://www.diabetes.org/about-diabetes.jsp, American Diabetes Association website, to make sure I had correct information. It was informative if you want to take a look. It had information about pre-diabetes, when blood glucose levels after fasting are between 100-125. It says diabetes is indicated when fasting blood sugars are 126 or higher.
709686 tn?1277432159 If it is Type 1 Diabetes, you are somehow born with a weak pancreas or abnormal hormone system which causes the lack of insulin production. But about 90% of the diabetes patients are of Type 2 Diabetes which is still remain a myth among the Smart Scientists. Type 2 Diabetes is a diet & lifestyle related illness. Most people put the blame on the Sugar and Carbohydrate for the elevated glucose level in the blood.
Avatar n tn My 20 year old son has recently been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. He had trouble controlling it for about 6 months-- up to 500, etc. He is extremely responsible and tests often and takes 4 insulin shots a day. Here is the question: He has had a spinal fusion due to very severe scoliosis. He is a chef on a cruise ship and stands for 12 hours at a time. About a month ago he started taking vicodin for back pain.
Avatar n tn m not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. Type 1 and type 2 diabetes both cause nerve and blood vessel damage in fingers and toes when the body has hyperglycemia for long periods of time. Please consult your doctor about the symptoms you are seeing. There are treatments to relieve the symptoms you are having.
1090423 tn?1286287650 How do you know if you have hyperglycemia? Well, remember the "3 More, 1 Less" symptoms. First you have More Thirst for water, More Hunger for Food, and More frequent toilet visit. And if the condition get worse, you will notice drastic weight loss which will result in Less body mass. When you reach the Less phase, that is when your body cells start to degenerate which will result in the malfunction of vital body organs.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was 15 years old. My blood sugar was over 1000 and I was very ill for a long time. I was a freshman in high school and missed a couple weeks before I got out of the hospital. My eyesight changed from being nearsighted to far sighted within weeks so I couldn't see straight (pun intended). I had to be home schooled for the second half of my freshman year because I was so far behind.
Avatar n tn Actually all types of diabetes, Type 1, Type 2 and LADA/Type 1.5 can entail both hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, it's kind of the nature of the beast. And when you treat diabetes with insulin, oral meds and even diet and exercise it can exacerbate these extremes. The key is to try and balance your blood sugar so it avoids both extreme. Hypoglycemia is uncomfortable and if severe, dangerous. Hyperglycemia leads to complications.
Avatar n tn As Zoe suggested, talk with your doctor to help get your glucose under control. Conditions associated with type 1 diabetes include hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia, ketoacidosis and celiac disease. Go here for a good read on hypoglycemia. http://www.diabetes.org/type-1-diabetes/hypoglycemia.
Avatar f tn What are the symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes? I have a child who is extremely tired and thirsty all the time. Should I have him checked for diabetes?
Avatar n tn I am not a physician, but a volunteer and the mom of a type 1 diabetic. I can tell you that yes antibiotics and most medications will raise your blood sugars. You can call the manufacturer of the medication to find out how many carbohydrates are in the dosage. We found this out when our daughter who is diabetic, was ill and taking cough medicine and antibiotics and we had the same problem that you are having. We called the manufacturer of the different medications.
Avatar n tn I am a Type II diabetic and what you have described sounds like hypoglycemia vs. hyperglycemia (diabetes). I have experienced hypoglycemia on several occasions and my symptoms were quite similar to yours. See your doc right away.
Avatar m tn Recently found out I have type 11 diabetes, 3 month blood test came back at 6.4., Been watching what I eat and lost 15 pounds so far. Check blood in the morning and is usally at 100 to 115, in the afternoon after work its at 75 to 90. I am 54 years old, now the question, this just happen yesterday but happens every once in a while.
Avatar n tn I am struggling to find the answer to why a type II diabetic can have the symptoms of weakness and maybe dizziness which would be associated normally with low blood sugar when their reading is above 10-11 mmol/L. If symptoms of weakness etc. are due to insufficient glucose entering the CNS why would even a diabetic have these symptoms when their level is above 10mmol/L - insulin is hardly needed for glucose to cross into the CNS. Help much appreciated.
Avatar n tn Hyperglycemia in diabetes is a common indicator of infection and/or illness, though. That's at the base of my concern. If I were infected with HIV, wouldn't it follow that my blood sugars would spike?
Avatar f tn For clarification Hypoglycemia is Type 1 Diabetes. This forum is for T2's, Hyperglycemia. "Could something other than dietary habits be causing this fluctuation in my blood sugar?" Issues with your thyroid misfiring. Get a TSH test. Losing weight even a few pounds have been shown to improve blood glucose levels. In the diabetes world being 25 lbs overweight is borderline obesity.
Avatar n tn Anyway, all my symptoms now tha I hav gotten home fit the Type 1 Diabetes list and it does run in my family. My questions are also--kidney involvement--they also told me my kidneys were not functioning too what they also should along with a number of tests with what could possibly be malignant bone marrow luekimia. I guess what I am asking is "can" blood tests be off when the blood sugar is so high?
Avatar m tn Have you heard of a link between use of Cydex disinfectant and risk of developing COPD? Thank you.
