Avatar n tn Ok... let me explain the effects of low cortisol, normally. What is is simply is that your body cannot manage sodium. In most people, when sodium goes down, potassium rises - you get confusion, nausea, headaches, vomiting, low blood pressure, chills, sweats, fevers, and it all can lead to coma and death. Look up adrenal crisis for other symptoms. Now, in some people with adrenal issues, potassium does not rise.
Avatar f tn Cramps are definitely a symptom of low potassium. Perhaps if her regular doctor hasn't been able to treat her potassium problem he can refer her to a specialist. Sorry I don't have any more useful suggestions.
Avatar n tn Except for the weight loss, I hate to say it but diabetes, insomnia,, pain are symptoms of high cortisol, not low. I know this as I used to have Cushing's disease (pituitary) and then had my adrenals removed to cure it - so I get to live both sides of cortisol - high and low. Ironically, the symptoms are not too far apart with fatigue and a few others.

Avatar m tn You have a lot of risk factors so I would start taking care of your kidneys now. Low salt diet, avoid potassium rich foods like potatoes and tomatoes and dark colored pop - except rootbeer is okay, and keep your protein moderate (no more protein than the size of your closed fist - two times a day). (if you google you can find the whole list). And keeping your high blood pressure under control. If you haven't already an appointment with a nephrologist may be in order.

Also UTI’s need to be evaluated. For this is suggest you to consult a physician and get urine culture done. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

Avatar m tn //rarediseases.org/rare-diseases/hypokalemia/ It's possible that your potassium test was faulty, or that you are rare in that you react to a slight deficiency as if it were a severe deficiency. It's a simple matter to increase your potassium intake (such as with potatoes and bananas) to see if that makes you improve. But I'd use a supplement, rather than just food.
214529 tn?1333303619 I have been taking a 10mg tablet of Klor Con for low potassium for a little over a week now. My level was 3.2 and normal is 3.5 to 5.0. 1500525 tn?1458529998 Hi, I'm 43 & in hospice bcuz of CHF. Lately, I haven't been able to hold anything down. I'm not dehydrated (IV in the arm) but I'm extremely thirsty, and it seems nothing quenches my thirst after I take a drink I actually feel more thirsty. And when my mouth gets so dry like extremely dry, I get nausea, dry heave, then up comes bile ( the same thing is happening out the other end & same color/no smell I am told) I'm guessing that's bile too.
Avatar n tn I know this is an old thread but can Diabetes Insipidus really cause generalized edema? Most if not all doctors seem to think it doesn't from what I've read online.
Avatar m tn If so, you may want to ask your doctor for doppler diagnostic testing to see if you have peripheral vascular disease or PAD. Also, have you had your potassium level in your blood checked lately? If you are low in potassium, that's one cause for calf muscles feeling tired. Hope you can see a doctor about these symptoms and get a proper diagnostic work-up & treatment!
