Avatar n tn While I am not a physician and am speaking as a lay person, everything I have been told about alcohol and diabetes, alcohol, should be avoided. Not only does it impair the ability to detect low bloodsugars, alcohol's primary ingredient is sugar. I have also dealt with this situation with my son. Keeping open communication is so important, however because he is in college, I'm sure it's harder. Is he far away?
Avatar f tn After having an ongoing sinus infection for more than a month, I have developed a sudden alcohol intolerebce. Just one drink will give me severe nausea, vomiting and loose stools. I now have sulfur tasting burps, increased gas and continuing nausea. Food does sound appealing at all. What could be causing this? I have been diagnosed with IBS in the past, but this is totally different.
Avatar n tn Hello there. I am very confused about some symptoms I'm having. I'm currently being tested for several different things, including diabetes. I have an abnormal heart beat, I am fatigued ALL day long, my hands shake when I move them up and down; plus they feel weaker then usual. I have leg pains which are similiar to growing pains (I can't still be growing though) , mostly during my menstrual cycle, or after I drink alcohol.
Avatar n tn Hi alcohol can cause low blood sugar levels for some due to its effect on the liver. But even more it can cause those person with diabetes to pay less attention to their health and blood sugars. This does not mean you can never drink alcohol, But it should be taken in moderation only. When you do have a first drink (remember moderation) do it in the company of a trusted friend so you can safely see the effect it has on you.
1055725 tn?1265869375 m just going to speak to the symptoms you are experiencing and the possibility of hypoglycemia or diabetes. Hypoglycemia is one of the symptoms of diabetes and just means low blood sugar. Some people however, have a diagnosis of just hypoglycemia, without the diabetes. That is very different. Your symptoms might relate to either one, or they might not. Some other symptoms of diabetes are increased hunger and thirst. Some people however are diabetic without experiencing any symptoms at all.
Avatar n tn I experience drunken like behavior when I am hypoglycemic and having problems with frequent low sugars. Make sure he tests his sugars at least 4 times a day and when he experiences symptoms. Have him eat protein with his carbohydrates so that he does not have abrupt drops in glucose levels. Tell him if he wants to prevent lows to cut out the alcohol. Alcohol can cause or impair someone's ability to realize that they are going low.

Avatar n tn Alcohal has many different effects on diabetics which is why the American Diabetes Association recomends diabetics only drink two drinks a day. If you take insulin for the alcohol it will just lower your blood sugar since alcohol doesn't need insulin for it to be digested. Alcohol malso has the further effect of lowering blood sugar without the extra insulin, so alcohol should only be taken while eating.
