Avatar n tn Hello Candikane, Your doctor's advice is surprising to me, also. I'm guessing that s/he is not a diabetes specialist and that's the type of physician who should be guiding your diabetes care. Specialists might be called endocrinologist or diabetologist. None of us here is a physician, but we're long-time diabetics or care-givers for diabetic children. You didn't mention if you've been diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2, and the treatment options vary for these types.

Avatar n tn Below is the FDA information released by Astra Zeneca regarding this very issue Patients with risk factors for diabetes mellitus (eg, obesity, family history of diabetes) who are starting treatment with atypical antipsychotics should undergo fasting blood glucose testing at the beginning of treatment. Any patient treated with atypical antipsychotics should be monitored for symptoms of hyperglycemia including polydipsia, polyuria, polyphagia, and weakness.
15114787 tn?1438541373 type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and T2DM. T2DM is a common endocrine disorder that encompasses multifactorial mechanisms, and T1DM is an immunologically mediated disease. Many epidemiological studies have shown an association between T2DM and chronic hepatitis C (CHC) infection. The processes through which CHC is associated with T2DM seem to involve direct viral effects, insulin resistance, proinflammatory cytokines, chemokines, and other immune-mediated mechanisms.
Avatar m tn I see you have the word 'diabetes' crossed. Diabetes is a Greek word meaning large amounts of urine. Both diabetes mellitus and diabetes insipidus fall into this realm but both are separate mechanisms. This forum deals mostly with type 2 diabetes, people who have high blood sugar levels [mellitus]. Diabetes insipidus is kidney related. For best answers, the forum to post on is Kidney Disease & Disorders.
Avatar f tn Chronic infection with HCV is associated with insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and type 2 diabetes [61]. The prevalence of type 2 diabetes has been reported to be 14–50% in patients with chronic HCV infection [62]. HCV-associated diabetes is characterized by insulin resistance and does not appear to be associated with antibodies directed towards the beta cells in the islets of Langerhans [63].
Avatar f tn Several studies found hepatitis C (HCV) increases risk of Type II diabetes mellitus (DM). However, others found no or only sub-group specific excess risk. We performed meta-analyses to examine whether HCV infection does increase DM risk in comparison to the general population and in other sub-groups with increased liver disease rates including with hepatitis B (HBV). METHODS: We followed standard guidelines for performance of meta-analyses.

It sounds like you've been doing really well, though, but you should talk to your doctor, though, because since it's already been high, you need to keep on top of it.
Avatar m tn BYDUREON is an injectable prescription medicine that may improve blood sugar (glucose) in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, and should be used along with diet and exercise. BYDUREON is not recommended as the first medication to treat diabetes." If it's "not recommended as the first medication to treat diabetes" is AMYLIN saying Bydureon is to be used with other medications? This something you need to discuss with your health care provider.
Avatar n tn I am a 38yr old female (American living in Australia) and have just received a probable diagnosis of diabetes and am currently undergoing tests to determine type 1 or type II. I am an active person, slender and have relatively good eating habits and what I've been told "an atypical case" for diabetes. But I have recently begun losing weight unintentionally. I have quite a healthy appetite and I do have a biological family member who has Type II.
Avatar f tn I went in for a regular checkup, because I have frequent urination and thirst. The doctor checked my sugar levels through urine and then she told the medical assistant to do it with blood. While I was in the room with the medical assistant, she told me the doctor want her to check my blood because I have high glucose levels in my urine. She said I could be pre- diabetic and etc. So when the doctor came in she said your blood is good.
Avatar m tn Also, there is possibility blood vessels do not function very well with diabetes, or history of diabetes as diabetes can have a damaging effect on the endothelium cells. Endothelium cells line the blood vessels and act and function as a monitor to the system's nerve center. For example, when the blood flow is reduced (i.e. low cardiac output or loss of blood...
Avatar f tn Aside from the kidneys and eyes, Diabetes mellitus type II can also affect the nerves especially if the blood sugar level is not controlled. It is important to control your blood sugar level always. A referral to a neurologist will help with the evaluation. Your medical history and complete neurological examination will help determine the underlying cause. Take care always.
Tbd Simply stated, ATP is what fuels our bodies. However, an individual with type 2 diabetes mellitus does not produce sufficient insulin or is not capable of utilizing endogenous insulin in order to facilitate the transport of glucose into the cells. This results in hyperglycemia. This does not mean that all carbohydrates must be avoided but it is necessary to limit carbohydrate intake and to choose what are called complex carbohydrates in place of simple carbohydrates.
Avatar f tn (ii) recovery from the long-term impairments of LSRPN is usually delayed and incomplete and only a small minority of patients develop diabetes mellitus; (iii) LSRPN mirrors the diabetic variety in its clinical features, course, pathological findings (ischaemic injury from microvasculitis) and long-term outcome; and (iv) LSRPN should be set apart from chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy and from systemic necrotizing vasculitis." http://brain.oxfordjournals.
