Also, be sure to keep a journal of your results. Most glucose meters come with a log book.

Avatar m tn As every bodies body is different a sure fire method to understand how foods you consumed affect your glucose levels is to start a food log, an Excel spreadsheet notating what you eat, portion size and what your preprandial [b4 meal] and postprandial [2-3 hrs after meal] test levels are. Pay close attention to carb intake. It's a catch-22 for diabetics. Our bodies need carbs for energy but at the same time carbs raises glucose levels. This where portion size comes into play.

Avatar f tn ask the doctor for a referral to an Endocrinologist (diabetes specialist). I also suggest you start monitoring and keeping a log of foods you consume. Log what you eat, how much you eat and how you feel directly after, 1 hour, 2 and 3 hours later. Do this for every meal, including snacks. Present this log to the endo.
Avatar n tn An insulin pump is something you need to ask your endocronologist for help with. Blood sugar log books can be sent to you from the company that you have your meter through; just call them. Your local Diabetes Charity could probably point you in the right direction too. I'm assuming you already have a pump, but they are all different & you need to be taught how to use it properly.

When I first got it, I thought it was gonna be like the end if my world, but I realize that it's only the beginning. Testing my blood sugar is going to allow me to be more conscious of what I eat and how much of what I eat. I may even shed a few lbs in the process. I am so excited. It's unfortunate that this is what it took for me to open my eyes but thru this circumstance I can see the light :).
