Dear winkster, Actually a diabetic diet is really only what a healthy diet would be for people without diabetes. And fruits are a part of that even though they have sugar it get metabolized like any other carbohydrates.

My question is where is the best place to get information about cooking for a person with type 2 diabetes? Cause I have type 2 diabetes but I am not a very good cook so I need help.

I have gestational diabetes and a couple of diabetes websites have helped me stay on track with recipes and advice. Try diabetes.org they have great budget friendly recipes. And switch out sugar for splenda or sweet n low wherever you can.

Anyway, if it continues to be a problem, talking with your doctor might be a good idea just to be sure. He can run a few tests to make sure everything is as it should be.

I was just wondering - of all the Diabetics on this forum .... how many have had endocrinologists put you on medication to *prevent* kidney failure soon after your were first diagnosed? My endo is really pushing to put me on medication in case (and I stress the words "in case") I may get Kidney Disease. I have no signs of it or have it now. My Kidneys are healthy.

I'm in the same situation, I found out last week and don't meet the diabetes educator until Wednesday. Its all about the sugar and carbs and counting them. Carbs turn into sugar so you have to make sure your not eating too many. I've found some great recipes on the diabetes association website. The internet can be scary to read but also you can find some very helpful information, there are so many recipes to choose from. Hope that helps and good luck!

My 4.5 year old female standard goldendoodle was diagnosed with stage 3 CKF recently. We found out yesterday that it's due to renal dysplasia, her kidneys are about the same size as a cat's (she's tall and 83lbs for size comparison) and her kidney structure is not formed properly. She has less than 25% kidney function remaining :( Our vet has put her on Royal Canin Renal A Dry Food. She has no problem eating it. She shows no symptoms of CKF and has a voracious appetite.

Does anyone have gestational diabetes? How does it affect you? I failed my test so I have a 3 hour test this week to do but I was wondering if anyone has it and what you have to do to keep your levels normal, my family line is full of diabetes and so it knew it might catch up to me. m thin, eat a lot of vegetables and fruits, work out semi-regularly. To my knowledge, I have no family members with diabetes. However, I eat a lot of candy--probably 2 lbs of Reese's Pieces a week. It isn't affecting my weight but I have been experiencing spots of numbness, at different times, in my shoulders, feet, arms, hands, calves and thighs. It seems to correlate with my recently increased candy-eating.
