Avatar f tn I did a little better on Neurontin as far as less weight gain and less laziness, but I switched to a sister-medication known as Topamax. It is an anti-seizure medication just like Lyrica and Neurontin, but it doesn't have the same type of side effects and it helps with the nerve pain and migraines that Fibromyalgia can cause.
Avatar f tn Why are you looking to change your medication? Is the oral prednisone bothering you?
Avatar f tn I recently went out with a guy whos had T1 diabetes for 20 something years. I dont know much about diabetes but i been reading and asking him questions to learn more. My question is i spent one night at his house and in the morning when he woke up he was very very confused, i dont think he knew who i was, hes eyes were open but in his head he wasnt there, he was saying sentences that didnt make sence, was moving very slow.
Avatar f tn 2% is equivalent to a daily glucose level of 146 to 160 mg/dl, well into diabetes land. A normal A1c is 4.1 - 5.0% which is 70 to 99 mg/dl. Diabetes starts at an A1c of >6% and where complications began to take shape. There are many drug company sponsored web sites wanting one [and some doctors] to believe higher than normal A1c and/or glucose levels are OK when in fact it induces diabetes side effects.
1925135 tn?1323307656 When I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes I went through several medications before I found 1 that fit me - I am a non insulin dependent diabetic .
Avatar n tn I do not have any experience with Zyprexa. However if your doctor has prescibed this drug for anxiety then I think that it is safe for you assume that it used for anxiety. Does it not mention what the drug is used for on the directions/side affects? They wouldn't prescribe a drug that is of no use to you. I was on a drug called Olanzapine and that had had some bad press about it possibly causing diabetes.
Avatar f tn Is this something that a dermatologist can treat, do we need to see an endocrinologist? is there any oral, topical medication for it? i have read general information about it and they suggest diet change, well... that is an impossible task with my son who has a very restricted diet (by choice) and would only eat few things and if not given to him he gets agressive and has terrible meltdowns.
Avatar n tn It is also a new practice (Joslin diabetes center - one of the world'sleading diabetes management and research centres) to start all persons with diabetes on insulin instead of oral meds. Glipizide is a drug that makes your pancreas put out more insulin so it can cause lows. It can also make your pancreas burn out faster. So do research this and consider stopping this drug (in coordination with your Dr.) Metformin does not have this effect. So you can ask your Dr.

Business man2 You can begin your diabetes education by reading, understanding and practicing what is put forth at these sites: http://www.diabetes.org/ http://diabetes.webmd.com/ Since you didn't provide us any information to work with, you can start by making lifestyle changes. Too many people rely solely on medication to make themselves normal when basic lifestyle changes are ignored. Medication alone will not do the work for you, they are there to 'help' you.
Avatar n tn Updated package inserts containing the additional hyperglycemia and diabetes mellitus information will accompany the medication in the near future and you should, of course, refer to the insert for full Prescribing Information. As always, we request that serious adverse events be reported to AstraZeneca at 1-800-236-9933. I would not be able to offer a suggestion of an alternate medication as I do not have your full health profile and I cannot diagnose.
874521 tn?1424116797 Its good to know the short term and long term side effect profile of any medications but the lawsuits that are on television or other places tend to overstate long term side effects for their potential gain. The medication website as well as full prescription information of any medication has the full side effect profile (by FDA law) including adverse side effects (ones that are clinically rare) and that's the best way to learn the exact facts.
Avatar m tn Get educated on diabetes - there is plenty of very good information about appropriate diet and exercise. You have diabetes and if it is not well managed it kills, and not prettily.
Avatar m tn Hi Charles, Here is some information on drinking and diabetes. If you know where mead falls in terms of alcohol content, this information should help you figure out what's safe, but the best guideline to remember is that men with diabetes should have no more than 2 drinks a day (that's considered moderate drinking) and you should always check your BG after drinking for about a day, to make sure you don't have a low blood glucose event. Enjoy! http://www.medhelp.
1304588 tn?1299071471 I was able to go off all insulin and all oral medication. Was I cured of diabetes? No. Once a diabetic, always a diabetic. You can keep it well controlled and not need medication, but you are still a diabetic. After 5 years from my big weight loss, I gained 25 pounds. I am now back on oral medication and just recently went back on insulin. I was devastated. I do take some medications that may raise my blood sugar, but not enough to be back on medication.

Avatar f tn True or not true? Did you start any new medication/s 6 mos ago? Increase any medication/s 6 mos ago? And go easy on the Ibuprofen, it is extremely hard on the liver. To treat your diabetes it would be in your best interest to seek out an Endocrinologist, a doctor who specializes in the treatment and care of the endocrine system - diabetes, thyroid, pancreas etc. Have your thyroid and pancreas tested. If the thyroid is misfiring it will disrupt pancreas insulin production.
