Avatar n tn Janie001 - I am by no means a medical professional, just the wife of a juvenile diabetic. I did a little research on my own and I too found more information on Cushing's Disease in dogs. I did, however, find some information on Cushing's syndrome on Mayoclinic.com that may be helpful to you. Below is an overview. "Cushing's syndrome is a result of high levels of the hormone cortisol.
Avatar f tn I recently went out with a guy whos had T1 diabetes for 20 something years. I dont know much about diabetes but i been reading and asking him questions to learn more. My question is i spent one night at his house and in the morning when he woke up he was very very confused, i dont think he knew who i was, hes eyes were open but in his head he wasnt there, he was saying sentences that didnt make sence, was moving very slow.
Avatar f tn Blind dogs can manage very well, but obviously it is better to have the cataracts removed if finance permits. Dogs blind from birth fare better than dogs that become blind later in life. You already have an understanding about not moving furniture, etc., and there are lots f things you can do to improve the quality of life for a blind dog, but ultimately they are still compromised ... and some gs deal with it better than others. You didn't cause this to happen.
188761 tn?1584567620 Hi All, I would really appreciate if some one could take time to shred some light on the condition that my mother is going through. She has been lately diagonosed with diabetes and is on medication currently. She has been developing rash on her neck and face. Also, complaining about her eyes itching.
2065896 tn?1373685384 Yep, prednisone (long-term) can cause diabetes both in humans and dogs. One of our dogs (a Toy Fox Terrier) was on prednisone for about 8 months due to health problems including allergies, he developed diabetes, and now is on insulin and a low-carbohydrate diet. (I think it's more likely in dogs to cause diabetes, I was on prednisone at high doses from 2-14 years old and I have some long-term side effects that do remain but I don't have diabetes.) Have you tried adjusting her diet?
Avatar m tn Unfortunately you posted on the human t2 diabetes forum. Use Google search for 'k9diabetes' for some solid hits. Good luck to the pooch.
4105307 tn?1369531432 No, the vet didn't have anything to say about medications. I found a few on line that claimed to be for cats, but we didn't try any. We had medications for the treatments of symptoms, but not directly for cushings. There was much more information about dogs than cats. The glucosamine and vitamins we're all that we tried and she gained a little more energy and strength. But the disease continued to make her weak, especially in her rear legs.
Avatar n tn You may need to test your blood sugar two hours after eating occasionally and if it is high or low, you can talk to your doctor or diabetes educator about adjusting your insulin. With certain foods such as high fat hot dogs and pizza digestion slows down and you may find that you have a low blood sugar an hour after you eat and then will be high later. This is because fat slows down the digestion process.
Avatar n tn Hi ozarkskye, my advice is based on my own experience, as I'm not a physician but have been a diabetic for 11 years. There are many diet plans for diabetics, but the ones that work best are usually custom-made for individuals, tailored to their specific needs by their nutritionist/dietitian. Was the diet plan your doctor gave you created with your input and have you discussed your concerns with him?
Avatar n tn t state what size dog this is....That information is crucial....If this is a small dog and 3ml is a human dose, then yes, it could be harmful.....A large dog would be less likely to suffer as serious side effects....... The same overdose symptoms can happen to a dog as with a human.......You need to look at your package warning label and read them or google side effects of this medication...... If you see anything unusual with your dog's behaviour, you need to seek medical attention ASAP....
Avatar f tn Several factors have been proposed as possible causes such as emotional stress, psychological factors, habits, allergies, diabetes and hormonal disturbances. However, none of these factors have been conclusively linked to geographic tongue.” So it seems that no one knows what causes this condition However: “A condition that causes harmless tongue patches resembling smooth, red islands. Geographic tongue is a harmless condition affecting the surface of the tongue.
Avatar n tn Ear itch is a common problem, but there is no way I or anyone else can diagnose the specifics from the little information provided. A vet will be need to determine if there is any infection. Skin problems from can often be treated with over the counter medication. Maybe a wash in a medicated shampoo containing ketoconazole medication may help and ear drops. If an infection is present the dog may need antibiotics prescribed by a vet.
Avatar m tn The initial symptoms fit however it would not have been fatal. A considered diabetes as well. Diabetes causes an elevation in the blood sugar levels and results in excessive urinating, urinary tract infections, and weakness. Once you mentioned the extreme amount of blood during her final days I knew that this was likely a common urinary tract cancer called Transitional Cell Carcinoma (TCC). TCC is more common in older dogs however can be seen in dogs as young as 2 or 3 years old.
Avatar f tn ve seen older dogs have a change in personality like this. You will have to take back control and discipline her when she nips at you. make her sit then stay for a moment, once she obeys and recognizes your leadership, then reward that. Pick back up with very basic obedience 30 minutes a day and make sure she sticks to a strict schedule when you come home, when you prepare the food and only treat when she obeys a command. you should be able to get her over this.
605458 tn?1539228808 Anyone else experience this. My dog gets insulin once a day. He only needs it once a day for the following reason. His sugar should drop to its lowest 6-8hrs after he gets his insulin. My dog's sugar doesn't drop until 12-14 hrs after, so when we tried him on twice a day, the doses began to overlap and he got hypoglycemic. He does this consistently. He was on NPH, but we have just started him on Vetsulin to see if it will regulate his blood sugar better.
Avatar f tn Hello. I don't have a lot of information. But my fathers dog is 8 1/2 years old terrier mix Chancho was diagnosed with diabetes today and renal failure. I do not know the numbers of his test, but prior to being diagnosed he was real lathrgic vomiting urinating and popping in the house it was uncontrollable. Today when my father took him to the vet he couldn't walk, vet gave him iv for being dehydrated, anti nausea shot, insulin and antibiotics.
Avatar f tn With her age in mind, do you think that treatment is what she needs? I love her dearly and we have lost 3 dogs in the last 8 months to congestive heart failure, cancer and kidney failure. When the time came to put them to sleep, they suffered. I do not want her to suffer. Any advice?
Avatar f tn No kids, but I think that what's really important to know is that AI runs in your family. As you have said, it's not always the same AI. We see families with several different AIs. So, unless you want to test for all of them... Furthermore, antibodies can be present for years, or even decades, before disease actually develops. Practically speaking, you could be hit by a bus before the antibodies do their dirty work.
931246 tn?1297902651 There's only one real sensible answer....and that is take him in to be checked out. Tell the vet everything, and they can check his heart, and investigate the reason for his thirst. However are you sure that his breathing when he's sleeping isn't snoring? Some dogs do snore. This can sometimes be a sign there is slight airway obstruction, but very often, it doesn't mean anything very serious. Also when dogs dream their breathing changes.
Avatar n tn The dr gave me 14 days of doxy and will refill it if the test is positive. Our neighbor has lyme, as well as several dogs in the neighborhood. Thanks in advance for any info.
Avatar n tn When dogs lose weight this fast I always worry about diabetes. Volunteering at the Humane Society made me see some elderly dogs diabetes' cases and the first thing was that the lost completely appetite. So I would suggest having him checked by the vet so he can run some tests and find the cause immediately.
