Common Questions and Answers about Diabetes in toddlers

diabetes

Avatar f tn hiya..
Avatar n tn I have a three year old with type 1 diabetes. His sugars are just so out of whack lately. He complains about his head, eyes, stomach. I took him to GI specialist and they prescribed zantac he also takes zyrtec for allergies. I am not able to concentrate at work, not sure how well daycare does with his sugar levels, afraid he is there and not feeling well.
Avatar m tn Chalazions in toddlers occur in two forms, the "internal" variety and the "external" variety. Your description is not totally clear, but it sounds like this bump is trying to drain on the skin side, which would make it an external chalazion. These do leave small skin scars when they drain which usually fade away to almost invisibility over time.
926636 tn?1244051858 My granddaughter is also losing weight despite a concerted effort to increase her caloric intake (half and half in her cereal, ensure, etc.). Doctor will run a fast blood sugar so diabetes is a possible diagnosis, What are some other differential diagnoses for which we should be testing? There are a lot of autoimmune diseases on both sides of the family. Any suggestion areas to rule out would be helpful.
Avatar n tn Hello, I am a type 1 diabetic (in my 20s) and I work in diabetes professionally. I know many families with toddlers on pumps and very few have had problems with normal life interfering with the site/equipment. Most kids are so pleased to get off shots that it is a happy move for them. Regarding pulling it out: if your toddler does go on a pump he'll learn very quickly that leaving it alone is the best (read: least painful) thing.
Avatar n tn My son (aged 2) has 3 enlarged nodes in his neck, one over 2inch long and pretruding, and one in his groin. He has seen the pedritician and they have said that 2 in his neck and 1 in his groin are all within the normal limits (although the one is larger than a grape?) the one that is longer than two inches she said was larger than normal but felt ok to her. They did a blood count (normal) and test for glandular fever and told me to not worry.
Avatar f tn I am just looking for some opinions. I have been doing lots of research in hopes of helping him in the interim year that we are waiting for an appt. and we do have another appt with the ped next week. I have also gotten him into a clinic that is funded by the Autism Alliance for an evaluation by them...although it will not be an official diagnosis it will help sort some things out, I hope. Thanks so much for reading and giving any input.
Avatar n tn An A1C test may be in order , at least as a baseline. Toddlers can decompensate very quickly if they have diabetes, so keep careful watch and avoid DKA at all costs. I personally feel that a post prandial blood glucose reading is much more telling than a fasting bg; it lets you know if the islets are producing enough insulin to match the glucose circulating in the blood.
1214043 tn?1266316769 To make a VERY long story short, he would wake up in the middle of the night screaming in pain, he started to cry in the middle of something, then it would go away like nothing happened. It was either head hurting, knees or feet. It was hard to get a specific with a 2 year old. I kept bringing him to the dr's. I was told growing pains, too. I brought him to the ER at one point and he had a spinal tap and was admitted. But they couldn't find what was wrong.
Avatar f tn Itching or burning is often caused by allergic sensitivity for which the cortisone would probably help, or infection such as bacteria or yeast. Okay, could you possibly be allergic to any of the soap you are using? Do you have any discharge from your vaginal area? Is there a sore and distinct smell? If there isn't any discharge or smell from that area, and the soap isn't any bother, you could possibly use any antifungals to see if that would possibly help.
Avatar n tn t. I was able to put drops of water on his beak. Also, is this a health concern for my toddlers?
Avatar f tn I know this question is all over the place but please hear me out and please don't judge. I'm 20 and about three years ago I was raped. I know it was stupid of me, but i never told/got checked out/told absolutely anyone or anything. I never thought of it again until a few months ago I got a yeast infection, got medicated and then about two months after that I got another one after being stressed from away from home and in another state..
5609181 tn?1375332372 I'm so adduced to this show! And now that in having a little girl it makes me really think about putting a child through that. I would personally never do it with my child but I was wondering if anyone put ther little girls in pageants and what they thought? Or is anyone else just obsessed with this show?
Avatar m tn However, right now the most important thing is getting to the bottom of what is happening in these kids worlds right? You are a loving caring mom, and probably in shock right now. It is important though, to react and react appropriately. They are not going to just take your kids, but they will try to get to the bottom of what is happening. That is the most important thing.
Avatar n tn What age are the toddlers, it seems rather iunusual in a very small child I would look at what is happening in the childs life and who he or she is alone with, give more details for better answers.
Avatar f tn I wonder how life will be after having her baby brother . I am overly excited because, I will have a little helper in the house. But, I honestly am glad that I allowed my daughter to grow & be the baby before getting pregnant.
Avatar n tn s health. Hang in there for just a little while longer, and things will return to normal. Gestational diabetes, by the way, is caused by hormonal changes during pregnancy that cause the mom to become insulin-resistant. In the majority of cases, from what I have read, the mom returns to normal after the baby is born and the hormones return to normal. We do wish you the very best!!!
Avatar f tn m healthy and always on my feet with my two toddlers anyways.. Has anyone been thru this? Can some one give me some good advice.
Avatar f tn I had two babies each at 39 weeks with precipitous labor. I spoke to my dr about the fear of not getting to the hospital in time and getting an epidural especially since I have two toddlers at home and suggested it. once labor starts I have zero time to get to the hospital. I am already dilating and effaced at 36 weeks. Just wondering if anyone out there has any experience with this as induction isn't my ideal but having the baby in front of my toddlers would be worse lol.
