see im a bit confused because folic acid is in pregnacare tablets, but my wee tub of folic acid says to stop at 12 weeks its so confusing because you can take pregnacare throughout youur whole pregnancy which would mean folic acid should be fine throughout too, im a ftm so im new to all this haha:)

folic acid is a vitamin that is very helpful to the babies growth. Folic acid is in the prenatal pills that you should be taking every day during your pregnancy and after if your breastfeeding. It has vitamins that the baby needs and can't get with out the folic acid in the prenatal pill.

I take both a prenatal and folic acid, even though my prenatal has folic acid in it. My OB said one can't overdose on folic acid.

How lucky no does folic acid tablets have to be taken for during pregnancy or the pregnacare tablets?

Hi Guys, I am about 7-8 weeks prgnant and haven't been talking any folic acid vitamins all this time just eating the foods i normally eat which i'm sure had at least some folic acid in them. Is this bad? what are the chances of this being harmful to the baby? i'm scared. Please help! thanks.

I got pregnant with this one about 5 months post pregnancy. A lot of people are telling me that I need a higher dose of folic acid as my body hasn't had time to go back to normal from my last pregnancy. I started taking prenatal vitamins as soon as I found out, and it has 800 mg. of folic acid. Is this enough? I would ask my doctor, but my first appointment isn't until a week from now.

hi lovely, i asked my midwife the same question because with my last baby 6 years ago i was told i only needed to take it for the first 12 weeks but now she told me that they recommend that now you take Folic acid along with vitamin D the whole way through your pregnancy i take a combined pregnancy care vitamin which has everything in. hope this helps and Im sure different doctors or midwives may have different opinions on it but i just think it definitely doesn't do any harm anyway!

s actually the reason cereals have folic acid in them. But a simple prenatal vitamin will give you all the folic acid you need each day.

Prenatals have folic acid. There is no need to take folic acid also. As long as you are taking your prenatal youre getting all the vitamins you need at this point.

I've been taking folic acid and a pregnancy multi vitamin scince I found out I was pregnant. Now im past 12 weeks (12 weeks 4 days) do I need to stop taking it as ive read its only needed for first 12 weeks.

Any one out there take folic acid during pre pregnancy or early stages? How long did you take it once you became pregnant?

I was nauseated and vomiting until the day I delivered. Some women are sick till the end, but most will feel better during the 2nd trimester. Are you taking a prenatal in addition to the folic acid? It won't do too much missing 5 pills, but you need to take them everyday until your doctor says otherwise. Good luck with your pregnancy.

I will say, the reason I take extra is because I am a smoker. I was told in my first pregnancy that smoking leeches the folic acid out of your body, causing a deficiency from the start. I take the extra to combat this. Neural tube defects and the like are no joke. So don't think I advocate smoking - pregnant or otherwise. My children will tell you that even Mom thinks it's disgusting and smelly and very bad for anyone, but can't break the habit.

Hi if you want to talk my first baby had anencephaly, there is nothing that can be done now sadly, but next time you are trying for a pregnancy you will need to take a higher dose of folic acid. do you intend to carry the pregnancy on to term?

(They are the same thing folic is just man made) you can find it at target.com I bought it in bulk from jet.com and for less per bottle. But be main thing is you need to be taking a prenatal if they make you nausea try a gummy one (or an iron free one)...

So, from weeks 4-6 of my pregnancy ( the most important time for supplementing folic acid, as I have recently read) I was not getting enough folic acid from supplementation. Also, I eat mostly whole grains and gluten free foods. I rarely eat foods fortified with folic acid. Should I be concerned with matters such as spina bifida?

you do need to check with your ob, my peri had me on high folic and vit d. folic usually comes in 400mics if im not mistaken and some docs go as high as 2000 a day. good luck!!

Continue. Folic acid is in prenatals as well...you take your prenatals throughout the pregnancy and even after baby will breastfeeding. It helps prevent certain birthdefects and such.

So I'm 7 weeks almost 8 now and I only found out recently so I wasn't taking any pregnancy supplements or folic acid so just wondering if it's safe to start taking it now and if my baby will be okay even though I wasn't taking folic acid before
