1394098 tn?1385960134 I was just wondering if I should be concerned over a change in my 10 year old cats behavior. In the last few weeks she has stopped covering her poop and pee in the litter box. It's taken me a while to figure out which cat was the "guilty" one b/c I have 3 cats and 3 litter boxes. And they share the boxes. It's a rather smelly situation when Miss Kitty goes now. And I'm not sure if I should be concerned or how to get her to start covering things again.
1979418 tn?1432135441 No talking sensse into her, so she decides they can live in her mini van... she diappears again, drives to my sister in law work where two cats apparently jump out the window, so we are down to 9 cats in the cat van parade.... She ends up back at my aunts and spends the night there, cats int he van and I am able to arrange with animal control to investigate. But, they get there and can't seize the cats cause its on private property.
Avatar f tn With some cats accepting a new cat in the house can take some time. Generally they sort it out themselves. The more you intervene, the longer the problem sticks around because they have to work it out between themselves. Obviously, if the older cat is really beating up the younger one, you should stop it, but spitting and growling are a way of telling each other where they stand in the hierarchy.
Avatar n tn Yes, at that age this can happen. Has he had a check up recently? Cats at that age are at risk for hyperthyroidism, diabetes and a number of other (usually easily treatable) issues. A number of them can cause neurological events. How is his health and behavior otherwise? coat consistency? bowel movement status? Grooming?
427279 tn?1210919821 These are indoor cats? Regardless, cats think in instinctive terms of square feet of living/hunting ground. The older cat is accustomed to having all that space for himself and feels the others are intruding on his territory. since he's a house cat, and food is plentiful, this deep instinct only flares up occassionally.
1563533 tn?1345366296 I would really love to have alot of plants in the house but Im afraid my sweet curious cats will eat it and get sick, I have two indoor cats and I havent been about to have plants in the house before they always eat them, how can I keep them out of it! Also what is the best "cat friendly" plant to have in your home?
496949 tn?1209721192 With a cat of that age, changes in behavior are not unexpected. If you're truly concerned, have a vet check kitty out. 19 is an incredibly long life, but you should consider regular checkups to be sure kitty has quite a few years more. The knob is most likely just a solid mass, probably not dangerous. BUT...I would have it checked out. There's a possibility if that's what it is, it can/is causing issues as kitty gets older.
Avatar n tn my cat runs frantically through the house dropping poop. She urinates in the litter box but seems scared to poop in the litter box. I can usually tell when she's going to do this because she puts her tail between her legs and acts real scared and then begins running laps through the house and they just drop out. She licks her back paws a lot and chews on the nails. Her paws looks normal and so do her nails. No ingrown toe nail or anything out of the ordinary.
6726276 tn?1421126668 One time we had a huge storm, so we brought all the cats in (they slept at that time in boxes in a mostly-enclosed porch, but for some reason that didn't seem like enough) and our two Golden Retrievers. Set out the dog beds, set up the cat sleeping boxes, put the animals in the room. One by one, each cat went over, sniffed the dog's bed, and peed in it. Can't remember now if they picked on one dog, or if they shared the bounty between both beds.
Avatar m tn hi and welcome to our cat community. can you tell me if this is new behavior for kitty? how long has this been happening? Have you changed litter recently? We aren't Vets here only pet owners and perhaps we can help you with a few suggestions. When was the last Vet check up kitty has had?
171768 tn?1324230099 They were 1 yr old rescued ferral cats when we adopted them. They get along very well- will play together occasionally, and otherwise mind their own business. Today one of them had some teeth extracted because of congenital gingivitis. She was at the vet for about 10 hours. Ever since she returned, they have been hissing at each other. The only time we have ever heard them hiss at each other is on the very few occasions where their play got out of hand. should we just ignore it?
Avatar f tn I have been around cats all of my life and have never seen older male cats display this behavior. The older cats ages range anywhere from 10 years old up to 17 years old and they all allow this behavior. Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn Melly: I am not one of the resident cat experts but a hard belly is not a good sign. If it's a male and not neutered, he could be marking territory. OR it could be a Urinary Tract infection. Your vet would be the best one to ask. If it's behavior out of the ordinary, you should consult your vet.
506791 tn?1439842983 Miss Hildie is definitely feeling better. This morning she went to the patio door and asked to be let out into the back yard. Last evening, she and Teia went out, Hildie spotted something and for the first time exhibited hunting behavior (a grasshopper was her quarry). Both girls did a full patrol of the entire perimeter, Teia almost got a grasshopper, too.
4105307 tn?1369531432 s is a rare disorder of cats, with less than 100 cats ever reported. As in dogs, most cats have the pituitary-dependent form of hyperadrenocorticism, but cortisol-secreting adrenal tumors also occur in cats with some frequency (1,3). Many of these cats develop mild diabetes secondary to insulin resistance. With treatment of the hypercortisolism, the diabetic state may be reversible in cats with Cushing's syndrome.
Avatar m tn We brought a male kitten into our household about 3 months ago. The kitten is 4 months old now and has two grown male cat companions in the household as well. This kitten started immediately playing/attacking the other cats, hogged the other cats food, and just generally tried to take over any and everything the other cats liked and fights constantly even when the other cats are tired of messing with this kitten.
794335 tn?1238037723 However, I have had chemo twice in the past 2 years, and lost 2 cats so far, do I really need to worry about my cats and the chemotherapy? Plus my older cat also fights with my sons younger ones, constantly jumping them and biting them. Is this what may be giving my oldest cat behavior problems with the other 2 cats?
Avatar n tn Why is one of my male cats acting strange with new human infants in the house? My wife does daycare. This is why there are new infants sometimes. He runs around and urinates on things sometimes. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar m tn The body is amazing and if a child is eating dirt they often are deficient in the minerals found in dirt - meaning that the body craves what it is lacking. But pica can also be items that have no nutritional value, such as paper. etc. However, cats (and dogs for that matter) chewing on things is most likely not pica since pica isn't about chewing, it's about eating. Your cat may simply like the sensation of chewing.
Avatar f tn hello, Female cat, fixed, all of a sudden major aggressive behavior. Flying across the room to bite and scratch a person. this has happened now 4 time in the past 6 weeks. Normally this cat has been a baby, without any problems. There is no predicting this behaviour..just all of a sudden she turns "wild"...what is it?? I am worried..
Avatar n tn s moved and has not been able to find a cat friendly apartment so I have the two boy-cats living with me in my 1.5 bedroom basement suite. I expected some difficulties at first, but they still won't get along and they have been here since September '09. The Cats are 6 or 7 years old and were from the same litter, they are all neutered/spayed.
1460724 tn?1285932386 She lost weight and I took her to the vet and was treated for urinary tract infection. Ever since that time she is now the most aggressive of all the cats (as I come in the house, she is waiting there MEOWING at the top of her lungs). She no long hides, she appears to be always hungry and her preference is canned food and IAMS hairball dry food, she is thin, but still very active, jumping, chasing things and will nip you if you don't pet her when she wants.
Avatar f tn first of all, even if he still has a few fleas, you want to get rid of those even if he is "mental" about it. A few fleas can easily become a huge infestion again quickly. As for the pain, cats are notorious for being stoic...meaning they hide pain well. So just because he doesn't look like he's in pain doesn't necessarily mean he's not. With your description of the mutilation he is doing by itching, I would say he is likely hurting.
Avatar m tn old black lab named rowdy and 5yr old cockapoo BoBo and 3 8yr old cats oreo, blossom, and Buddy all of them have grown up together now after all this time BoBo the cockapoo has started at various times attacking the cats or somtimes rowdy, they all at various times sleep in our room, and suddenly in middle of the night BoBo will jump on one of the cats . they are all spayed and neutered .
