Personally speaking Metformin and cinnamon have no side effects when taken simultaneously. Does cinnamon help lower my glucose levels? Yes, in some ways it does. Will it work for you? Yes/no. I also have a very health diet, with roughly 120 - 140 gr carbs per day. I have a normal weight of about 55 kg at 165 cm. Even so I get hypoglycemic spells once in a while - with all the symptoms, cold sweat, blurred vision, trembling, faintness etc...
Avatar m tn Hi...I have been diagnosed with Type II diabetes . Fasting Blood sugar 2 weeks ago, taken by general doctor, was at 470. Avatar f tn My 2 cents worth on diets; What your husbands must do is follow diabetes nutritional guidelines, aka proper nutrition. Proper nutrition means to accentuate the positive when it comes to food. I dislike the word diet. “Diet” implies a rigorous, self-sacrificial discipline that’s doomed to fail. Instead, focus on achieving food goals of what you should eat each day rather than what you shouldn’t eat.
Avatar f tn The Metformin for me is no reaction on my blood sugar. Well, the side effect for me was working perfectly! My endo gave me Minidiab just half a tablet and it works well. Every time I take it when my blood sugar in 14 range. After few hours, it drops to 3.5. No one in the world will believe it works so effectively and can drop SO MUCH! Now I didn't take any med for diabetes. If it ways too low, I'll take chocolate and honey, sugary stuff to raise it. I tried to take an orange.

Avatar f tn Decreasing the amount of sugar produced by the liver. Increasing the amount of sugar absorbed by muscle cells and decreasing the body's resistance to insulin (insulin resistance). When blood sugar is lower, less insulin is needed, so the body makes less insulin. And when insulin is lower, the body produces a lower level of androgens.
Avatar n tn 060) - dr is saying that he does not think I have diabetes at all, and he wants to withdraw the Metformin. (I am in Canada if that makes a dif in reults). My question is - isn't my A1C good BECAUSE I take the Metformin? I mean, isn't that what its for - to get back within range with blood sugars? Does this result say to YOU that I do not have diabetes after all? What will happen to me if he withdraws the Metformin?
Avatar n tn I have always, as far as I can remember, had high sugar level results when having my blood tested for annual check-ups. However nothing was ever done about recommendations or advice from the various doctors over the years. Recently after a yearly physical a doctor started me on metformin which made me physically very drained, not tired or weak, but very loose, if that is the right word, and sort of wiped out in a physical sense. The prescription dose was 500 mg.
Avatar n tn It is also a new practice (Joslin diabetes center - one of the world'sleading diabetes management and research centres) to start all persons with diabetes on insulin instead of oral meds. Glipizide is a drug that makes your pancreas put out more insulin so it can cause lows. It can also make your pancreas burn out faster. So do research this and consider stopping this drug (in coordination with your Dr.) Metformin does not have this effect. So you can ask your Dr.
Avatar f tn This question is not exactly about Diabetes, but because metformin HCL is used in Diabetes treatment, I would like to know of any of you has experience with this medicine. Can you tell me about its side effects? Recently I went for a checkup and my doctor gave me Metformin for weight loss (It suddently went up to 99 kg though I was at 85 before and was following a strict diet plan).
