Common Questions and Answers about Diabetes glucose levels

glucose

Avatar m tn If it is fasting, then it is in the pre-diabetes category. Normal fasting is considered to be under 100. Pre-diabetes is considered from 100 to 125 and diabetic is considered 126 and over. However one number is just one number and what would be better is to have an A1C done. This gives you an average of blood sugars for a period of about three months. I suggest talking with your doctor, getting an accurate diagnosis and then going from there.
Avatar f tn The oral glucose tolerance test is conducted by measuring blood glucose levels five times over a period of 3 hours. In a person without diabetes, the glucose levels in the blood rise following drinking the glucose drink, but then then fall quickly back to normal (because insulin is produced in response to the glucose, and the insulin has a normal effect of lowing blood glucose.
Avatar n tn First thing you need have on hand is a home glucose test meter. The only way you're going to know how the foods you consumed affected your glucose [blood sugar] levels is by testing, testing, and more testing. Times to test are; fasting - first thing in morning b4 having any food or colored liquids [plain water is OK]. This will tell you how much stored sugar your liver is dumping during sleep hours. Normal levels are 60/70 - 99 mg/dl or 3.33/3.88 - 5.
Avatar n tn My 18-mo-old had a fundoplication on is having very unstable glucose levels - his "episodes" have become more frequent and today was example: 6:30am - woke up SCREAMING his head off (after waking up every 2 hours during the night with excessive thirst and peeing through 4 diapers - 8pm-6:30am - this is a typical night for us for past 9-10 months).
Avatar m tn I believe that the benefits pf statins outweigh the risks and have altered my eating lifestyle so to nearly exclude carbohydrates. This has enabled me to continue statin regime while keeping my fasting blood glucose levels at acceptaptable unmedicated levels. My wife on the other hand continues to take Metformin while on the statin drug.
Avatar m tn I had a full blood check up last week and my glucose levels came back as high for a morning reading at 9.2. I had some more tests today including a fasting test and a hba something or other. My question is soe this now mean i have diabetes. I am very much a night person regularly up til 4 in the morning and eating and drinking before i go to bed. I am white, not over weight and have no family history.
Avatar m tn Two hours after eating breakfast my glucose levels were 161. Right after a brisk 1 hour walk they were 104. I ate a small sandwich and checked (2) hours after eating. My glucose wat 181. What's up with this. Right now my waking numbers average about 150. Do these seem right?
Avatar n tn If during sleep hours, he needs to check his glucose levels before bedtime and adjust his insulin – if he is on insulin – accordingly. If he is not on insulin, a visit to his doctor is in order. With medications and lotions, there are no solutions or cures, only temporary relief. Deep skin moisturizers such as CeraVe and Cetaphil help, but again, these only provide temporary relief. Oral antihistamines help to alleviate intense skin itch.
Avatar f tn An easy way to lower blood sugar levels is to stay fit and healthy. Regular exercise not only helps lower blood sugar levels, but also helps fight infections. Staying active and taking regular exercise can also help with blood pressure problems. Exercise also helps control the body's weight and regulate cholesterol levels. This exercise does not need to be a grueling workout. Thirty minutes of exercise a day, even walking, will help to lower blood sugar levels.
Avatar f tn There are many drug company sponsored web sites wanting one [and some doctors] to believe higher than normal A1c and/or glucose levels are OK when in fact it induces diabetes side effects. The higher your levels makes one require higher medication dosage and/or additional medication to help lower the levels. Bottom line results is the more meds one needs the more profit $$ for the drug companies, the higher your daily glucose levels the more pronounced diabetes side effects become.
Avatar f tn Elevated blood glucose levels are indicative of gestational diabetes, although no one seems to know exactly what causes it. Hormones in the placenta can block the action of the mother's insulin in her body; insulin resistance makes it hard for the mother's body to use insulin, and without enough insulin glucose is turned into energy because it can't leave the body. A high level of blood glucose, called hyperglycemia, requires the baby to work harder.
Avatar n tn In a normal Non Diabetic person, what is the highest (peak ) Glucose levels that are usually attained. If the Peak is below 200 is this considered normal? or is it much lower?
Avatar n tn Hi all, I'm a 25 year old male who just had some blood work done for some chest, arm/leg pains I've been having. Xray and all blood work came back fine except for the glucose levels which I was told were "a bit high." Probably 45 minutes before the blood tests, I had a bowl of frosted mini wheats and a glass of juice. I am going back to get a fasting test, but wanted to know if eating the food/drink right before could have caused glucose reading to be a bit high?
645800 tn?1466860955 i have PTSD and diabetes too but I don't know about them interacting with the glucose hope this helps :)
Avatar n tn During my first pregnancy, I was not in great control of my glucose levels (this was in my pre-education-about-diabetes days) and the baby was 9 pounds large. During the second pregnancy, I worked with a team of doctors who were doing research in all things diabetic, and they used me as a test case to see what would happen when I was deliberately slightly over-dosed on insulin during the pregnancy (I don't recommend this, by the way).
415867 tn?1323365503 I think they are affiliated in that when your glucose levels are high you are susceptible to insulin resistance which is why many women who have PCOS are at risk of getting diabetes. It is the insulin resistance that I think has an affect on the other hormone levels.
Avatar n tn Your doctor can see from the blood test results when you return whether the diet change has brought your overall glucose levels down within normal ranges. I hope so, for then all you would need to do is to continue the new lower-carb diet and exercise in order to maintain your health. If you ARE put on medications of any sort, he will probably start having you test more often at home to make sure the dosage is correct.
Avatar f tn Use your home meter to test your glucose levels. If you're having memory issues start a log - date/time/dose - so you have something to reference in the future.
Avatar f tn My grandma (type II) really liked her water aerobics class and was able to loose 100lbs in a year via aerobics and dieting. But I think she only had a once a day treatment and I know she's never needed insulin. I think it depends on how bad your diabetes is- is your blood sugar hard to control? I would recommend starting slow, like walking. Make sure carefully watch your sugar levels (before and after) to see how your chosen exercise effect it.
Avatar f tn As a prediabetic, and possibly insulin resistant, should I be testing my glucose levels regularly? Should I go see an endocrinologist?
Avatar n tn I believe there's some confusion on glucose levels so I'll try to clear that up for you. A fasting glucose of 97 mg/dl is not high but is leaning towards the upper range of normal. Normal fasting is between 60/70 to 99 mg/dl Prediabetes is 100 to 125 mg/dl Diabetes is considered 126 mg/dl and above The 5.2% A1c does indicate a slightly elevated level of 103 mg/dl but I would rule that towards your pregnancy.
Avatar f tn t produce enough of the Thyroid hormone. And I also know that when I had the Glucose test my thyroid levels may have been off because my doctor just adjusted my medication. So should I just no worry as much as retest Glucose after I get Thyroid under control or should I start cutting back on certain foods. I probably should cut back anyway since I am overweight but with Thyroid levels being off I probably won't loose weight anyway.
