Avatar f tn Hello. I go through sort of the same struggle you do. I lost a ton of weight following the "Low GI" diet. Its Low Glycemic Index. The diet itself shouldn't really be called a diet because its really just all of the foods you should be eating anyway...but who am I to say that? The Low GI diet is great for people trying to stay away from getting Diabetes, and for people who have Diabetes. Google the diet to pull up all the foods.
Avatar f tn Oh I almost forgot. It doesn't matter what you eat at all. If you really wanted to, you could be on an all ice cream diet and lose weight as long as you're eating less than you burn everyday. Of course i dont recomend that. Eating meats and vegies fill you up quickly and are full of vitamins. As long as you aren't eating a bunch of crap, you're all set! Yogurts, sandwhiches, lean meat, vegetables.
Avatar f tn I was overweight and finally joined a weight loss group (TOPS). I managed to lose about 36 lbs. Having lost the weight I can now manage my diabetes with my diet. Since I now longer take Metformin I am having trouble losing the last 20 lbs I need to lose. Is there a connection between weight loss and taking Metformin. Has anyone else experienced this?
Avatar f tn To lose weight the correct approach is to lower carbs, not protein. Monitor insulin doses carefully as you lower carbs as it is very likely that smaller doses of insulin will be required when eating less carbs.

Avatar f tn Alot of people believe that if they just lose weight they could get rid of their diabetes and there are even doctors on tv commercials in my area that stated they have the cure for diabetes but from what I have learned from my diabetes educator is that if you are obese and that your diabetes is coming from obesity you can lose weight and then be able to manage your diabetes with diet and exercise.
Avatar f tn Eating a low glycemic diet (foods that do not spike the blood sugar, in turn spiking insulin levels), getting adequate exercise and losing weight (if overweight) will often/usually turn pre-diabetes around. Low glycemic foods are complex carbs that take longer for the stomach to digest; they include non starchy vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, low/now fat dairy, nuts, seeds, etc.

776302 tn?1241091853 Has anyone used Herbalife shakes to lose weight and their other products? By drinking two shakes to substitute two meals they lose weight fast, like 10 lbs in one month. I am hypothyroid and diabetic and finding it hard to lose even 3 lbs. I fluctuate back and forth. Please let me know if any of you have tried Herbalife.

SIMEONS, M.D's work to understand the whole protocol.
Avatar n tn The diet, because of its low requirement for insulin, has been recognised by the Swedish government as being suitable for people with type 2 diabetes and as helpful to individuals looking to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight. The recommendation of the low carb, high fat diet is that people eat full fat versions of dairy food in preference to low fat options. The diet does not rule out fatty meats and instead encourages people to leave the fat on rather than removing it.
1835320 tn?1326270501 If there is no underlying medical cause, then you need a proper diet and exercise program to lose weight. When one is overweight and knows this and wants to reduce then the pattern of eating you face is common. It is not uncommon to be depressed, not eat for periods of time and then go for binge eating. What you need to do is eliminate the common causes of increase in weight such as overeating, lack of exercise, diabetes, and hypothyroidism.
Avatar n tn school of diet will both gain weight and develop IR. Of course the best way to reduce resistance is to lose weight so it is a bit of a catch 22. If you have developed a significant insulin resistance as shown by the need to take higher doses of insulin to maintain blood sugars, you might also want to talk to your endo about putting you on metformin. Usually a type 2 medication it is often used in type 1's to combat IR and it can help keep weight down/lose weight as well.
Avatar n tn Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the prime reasons many women gain weight/can't lose it. Very often, hypothyroidism and insulin resistance accompany PCOS; have you been tested for those? For hypothyroid, you need to be tested for TSH, Free T3 and Free T4. Monitoring blood sugar levels will help identify insulin resistance. Recommend that you get tested further. Often metformin is prescribed for PCOS; has your doctor mentioned that?
