868616 tn?1239866236 Wouldn't it be beneficial to have a diet tracker so one could the relationship to weight, diabetes, sleep or any one of a number of other conditions and variables. It needn't have every food in details but cover groups of foods.
Avatar n tn Dear winkster, Actually a diabetic diet is really only what a healthy diet would be for people without diabetes. And fruits are a part of that even though they have sugar it get metabolized like any other carbohydrates.
Avatar f tn My eye doctor today told me that my vision problems are due to diabetes. I told him that I have never been diagnosed with diabetes by a medical doctor. I had fasting labs done a few months ago because of hypothyroid. My blood glucose at that time was 102mg/dl. Is that high enough for a diagnosis of diabetes? I already have another appointment for fasting labs next month. I thought I would get a jump start on changing my eating habits but I can't figure out what I can eat.
Avatar f tn This is my second week into the diet and have already lost 5 pounds. In my opinion, I don't think we're going to be gaining a whole lot of weight.
Avatar f tn The doctor said I had glucose in my urine. She is going to retest me again in 2 weeks. I went in 2 weeks ago for the sugar test and passed with a 131 cutoff is 135. So my question is has this happened to anyone else? Does this mean I am going to develop gestational diabetes?? I am not over weight but I do have a bad ice cream habit...been known to eat a pint of ben and jerrys a nite!!! Any input would be appericated..thanxs!!
Avatar f tn No but b glad... means ur diet is working.
Avatar m tn There are ways to live healthy and with less pain when diagnosed with diabetes: exercise, diet, healthy eating habits.
Avatar f tn So, I took Reese in to get his shots and he weighs 14 lbs. The vet says he's on the verge of being obese. :( She said to cut him back to 1/4 cup of food twice a day. I really don't know if he eats much more than that now. I don't see him eat often. I guess we'll see.

Avatar f tn It's very normal. I have gestational diabetes and I've gained 12 pounds and I'm almost 36 weeks pregnant. If you're following your diet, that's why you're not gaining a ton of weight. Only be concerned if your doctor is.
Avatar n tn Can you clarify? You absolutely need to follow a diabetic diet, so there's no choice there. Are you on one you don't like? What is it you're looking for exactly?
Avatar n tn Many dieticians feel that the extremely low carbohydrate count in the Atkins diet can lead eventually to heart disease because the diet is higher in fat than a normal diet with a balance of fruits and grains in addition to smaller portions of meat. So any extreme in diet may be less than ideal in the long run for overall health than the old-fashioned well-balance diet that diabetics are encouraged to eat.
604185 tn?1233960857 I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and was on diet for a week. But the glucose level don't seem to fall in the normal range. Avatar n tn Thank you for your comment. I should have provided more info but wanted to keep it brief. My weight is good and I do exercise - walking is what I love. There is a history of Type 11 on both sides of my family and I did have gestational diabetes back 40 years ago. And no obesity in family either. About 30 years ago, my mother insisted I be checked for diabetes, given the history.
Avatar m tn Once doctors see that your diet, weight, and glucose levels are in the green and steady, there is a HUGE chance that you can get off insulin. Again. AMAZING progress! I know quite a few diabetics, type 1 and 2, and I know how hard it can be to keep in control.
143 tn?1375123751 Exercise is one factor in helping to lower blood sugars. In order to control and manage diabetes lifestyle changes must be made and followed; eating a proper diabetic nutrition/diet, maintaining normal body weight, daily 30-60 minutes of exercise, and having a normal lipid panel. Above all, follow doctor's instructions. Use Google search for complications of type 2 diabetes. Show them to your parents.
Avatar n tn Changing lifestyle habits can go a long way in controlling type 2 diabetes. India leads the world in diabetes. This is mainly due to poor diet/nutrition. Things he must do: Restrict & avoid refined sugars, high carbohydrate foods, practice, avoid dairy products like milk and yogurt, avoid food made with white flour [breads, crackers, etc].
Avatar f tn This means attention to diet (lower carb is usually helpful), weight, activity, and the need for regular monitoring (hba1c testing every 6 - 12 months is a great idea). Be aware of diabetes symptoms and if in doubt test.
