Carbs should come from plenty of non-starchy vegetables. Avoid processed foods. Hope this can help.
Avatar n tn I am thinking if he was hospitalized that he shouldn't drink any more alcohol. Is he an alcoholic? That is not a good thing to be if you are diabetic. Or was it a one-time binge sort of thing? I don't know the exact amount of safe for your brother but after he has been in the hospital I hope he doesn't do the same thing and end up there again.
Avatar n tn im new here just wanted some info on children with diabetes im waiting for my sons blood results to come back from docs.
Avatar n tn I don't understand how alcohol can cause hypoglycemina in diabetics. It seems to me that it would cause hyperglycemia because of the sugar in the alcohol. I just heard a story of an adult who passed out twice because she had wine after taking insulin. Her blood sugar was 175 when she took her insulin and within 15 minutes she was passed out.
Avatar m tn I get dry mouth and urinate frequently at night. I do not have diabetes according to my labs (A1C and BG). Additionally, I have dry, red allergy eyes. I believe the eye issue is caused by my allergies, although I have read about Sojrens syndrome (I am male, and have no other symptoms aside from dry eyes and mouth). I was wondering if an of this rings a bell for the med help community or its doctors?
Avatar n tn You only notice this after drinking wine? I am not sure why that would happen only after drinking wine. When you have diabetes you can have issues with your circulation. That is why the doctor will check your feet and should ask about tingling in your hands or feet because that could signal that there is an issue with circulation. I think you should make sure there are no other things causing this problem. For example if you smoke it will increase poor circulation.
Avatar m tn Ah... glad to hear it's not you, but sorry this is happening to a family member. Putting the alcohol consumption aside, that is a HUGE amount of liquid for a person to consume in a single day. The swelling could be due to the excess fluid causing edema. It could be diabetes, especially if he has poor circulation. It could also be caused by congestive heart failure.
Avatar n tn Recently my partner has had a strange smelling sweat some days. Its sort of a sickly sweet smell and seems to happen only after nights where he's drunk a lot of wine. His wine drinking hasn't changed but this smell thing has started. Any idea's about what it could be would be appreciated.
10219953 tn?1426171839 (Let me start by saying Go ahead and judge for those who will say how could you do that or how dare you or what ever you think cause it ticks you off and feel its wrong) After dealing with these painful contractions and painful cramping and as this is called extended early labor a glass of wine would be awesome and by wine I mean Stella rosa cause it's sweet and it's the only kind I like. My 2nd pregnancy I had like glasses by the end of it. Doctor knew and said it was fine.
Avatar f tn Good comment about the diabetes. My husband has type II diabetes and occasionally gets that fruity smell. But he is not an alcoholic. In fact he hardly drinks at all - maybe a glass of wine at a family party. But, yes, the husband of the questioner should be checked for diabetes.
1211508 tn?1343079605 Mine usually hovers around exact same as yours, I am 50 years old and I am beginning to cut out things like jam and jelly, orange juice cranberry juice things like that which are loaded but sugar, even fruit can be high in sugar as well. My treat for drinking water, which I absolutely hate is to drink some sparkling water with a tad bit of organic cranberry juice and, it just give it a tiny bit of sweetness without being supersweet.
Avatar m tn I went on the insulin pump 3-5 months ago, competition athlete in jiu-jitsu and soccer, which means I exercise 2 hrs without pump. Also, adrenaline kicks in and sometimes after activity I will have 250-350 range. Moreover, pump malfunctions in the site and another in the tubing left me without insulin delivery for 3-4 day periiods until spotted. I had sustained level of over 400 for whole days.
Avatar n tn But in the last year, when I drink beer or wine, I have mild hypoglycemias in the next 2 hours, and hyperglycemias and insulin resistance for the next 2 days! I even started having the dawn fenomenon much more frequently than before. I also realized that when I eat a lot in one day, I develop insulin resistance and dawn fenomenon for the following week, unless I exercise vigorously (3-4 joggs/week) or reduce insulin dosage and food intake for one or two days.
Avatar m tn Hello, I just turned 60 and very recently diagnosed with diabetes. Not sure yet whether it's 1 or 2. Seems to follow the line of 2 for right now. This past week I have been extremely weak and shaky. Almost as if my nerves are jumping. I did have one day where my level hit 304 in the AM but now stay way under 190. In fact, right now my level is 98 and I'm still incredibly weak. Do you have any idea as to what can be causing this?

Avatar n tn I am a lot older than you and nowadays I moderate my drinking (though I certainly do enjoy a beer or two, or wine regularly) so that I am aware of what I am doing and how I feel. I do test my blood sugar more frequently if I am drinking or doing anything different so I can react to the situation. Hope this helps you. Stay safe.
