Diabetes and pregnancy diet

Common Questions and Answers about Diabetes and pregnancy diet

diabetes

Avatar f tn Once you deliver the baby, the gestational diabetes is gone. You SHOULD continue eating on a diabetic diet as it's healthy and you are now at higher risk for Type II diabetes but the only way to detect that is with a blood test.
Avatar f tn Sometimes pregnancy and hormones can make diabetes flare up and throw your sugars off. When you are high the baby is high. Extra careful diet will be required and maybe extra insulin. Lots of people have babies with Type II but it's how they manage the two that makes the difference.
Avatar f tn It's very normal. I have gestational diabetes and I've gained 12 pounds and I'm almost 36 weeks pregnant. If you're following your diet, that's why you're not gaining a ton of weight. Only be concerned if your doctor is.
11970398 tn?1443134602 I have gestational diabetes. There's no symptoms for you to tell if you have it or not. Around 26 weeks your doctor will order glucose tests and if you fail both then they'll put you on a diet and teach you to test your sugars. If that doesn't keep your numbers in check they'll put you either on insulin or a pill.
Avatar f tn Since being on the gd diet I haven't gained any weight. I'm 31 weeks and have been on the diet for 4 weeks. Is this normal?

1399124 tn?1401020004 This is my second pregnancy with gestational diabetes. I am on a very strict diet that my local diabetes education class provided and monitor my sugar 4 times a day. I have just started on a medication at night. For some of us the further along you are the more insulin resistance you have.
Avatar f tn I had a very hard time adjusting to a new diet. I got the hang of it and have really low numbers now. This is my third pregnancy and first time having GD.
Avatar m tn If your wife was my patient, and if she had any significant risk factors for diabetes, I would check a blood sugar early in pregnancy and then at about 24-28 weeks as you have read. Most of the research done on patients with gestational diabetes show no difference in outcomes for mothers and babies with gdm as compared to mothers with gdm. So IF your wife had GDM it is unlikely that testing a few weeks late is going to effect the outcome of her pregnancy in any significant way.
6674791 tn?1396215150 I had gestational diabetes with my first pregnancy. I controlled it very well. This is my second pregnancy and my sugars were too high for fasting so they put me on metformin and I'm doing great. I don't have regular diabetes so I was thrown off when I was told I'd need medicine. But when I got pregnant my body decided it didn't wanna function normally. My doctor doesn't think I'll need to keep going on the meds after I deliver.
Avatar n tn ll go away after pregnancy. Gestational diabetes can cause your child to be a little on the bigger side, but that doesn't happen to everyone.
Avatar f tn I was underweight with my first pregnancy and also didn't eat a lot of sweets, and I ate healthy and still failed the one hour and 3 hour glucose tests. Not horribly, but enough to send me to the nutritionist. i also was exercising and active. Up until pregnancy I'd had bouts of hypoglycemia, where my sugar would plummet if I hadn't eaten in a while, and honestly, having higher blood sugar was a welcome relief.
Avatar f tn 3)How best to prevent diabetes for kids? How can we make sure that the Child during pregnancy, post pregnancy, new born and kids and growing up children doesn't get affected by this?Early prevention may look for life time cure isn't? By not exercising and not in diet, I understand post 50 yrs, diabetic in adult is common and they can manage themselves...
Avatar n tn I had gestational with my first pregnancy ( managed through diet and blood sugar checks throughout the day) I went into labor on my own at 36weeks. Delivered a 7lb 8oz baby boy, he had jaundice that was cleared up within a week. I was just tested early ( yesterday at 20wks) with this pregnancy. Hoping I'll be diabetes free this time around!
Avatar f tn They will send you to a nutritionist and they will pit you on a diet. If you don't go by your diet it could effect the baby. Not sure how it will because I stayed on my diet but you also have bigger babies with gestational diabetes. I'm pregnant again and I have type 2 diabetes now.
Avatar f tn Also eat frequent small meals throughout the day. I had it my last pregnancy and it can be controlled and go away with a proper diet. I had to still prick my finger 4 times a day but my blood sugar was always fine.
Avatar f tn I had a baby 17 weeks ago and during my pregnancy i did have gestational diabetes, but it was never much of a problem and i managed to keep it under control with a diet. Since having my son i have not stuck to that diet and have indulged in a lot of junk food.

Avatar f tn This is my 3rd baby and i have had GD with every single pregnancy and i have had to give myself insulin and all....
Avatar f tn Just like anyone with diabetes, you can control or prevent it by eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly. Many people just assume sweets are what causes surges in blood sugar, but most of it is actually from carbs. Watch the amount of carbs you consume and have the same amount daily. Eating multiple small meals a day can keep your blood sugar levels even. Also eat less carbs in the morning at breakfast than any other time of day because insulin resistance is greatest in the am.
