Common Questions and Answers about Diabetes and insulin resistance data

diabetes

Avatar n tn Scientists have identified specific genes that make people more likely to develop insulin resistance and diabetes. Excess weight and lack of physical activity also contribute to insulin resistance. Many people with insulin resistance and high blood glucose have other conditions that increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and damage to the heart and blood vessels, also called cardiovascular disease.
Avatar f tn Fasting blood sugar results should ideally be less than 100; prediabetes occurs between 101 and 124, and frank diabetes greater than 125. These are fasting measurements, and it’s important to note that one or two results are no more accurate diagnosing diabetes than a couple of blood pressure checks are for hypertension. There’s a test called ‘HOMA-IR’ that is a ratio between fasting insulin and fasting blood sugar; I believe this is the insulin resistance test.
26471 tn?1211936521 SOCS-3 elevation causes insulin resistance in the liver. And insulin resistance causes hyperinsulinemia....and high levels of insulin make interferon ineffective Lack of SOCS3 in the liver promotes systemic insulin resistance by mimicking chronic inflammation. We knew all that.
Avatar n tn 1. Why he is treating insulin resistance without diabetes so aggressively and 2. If you were that insulin resistant you wouldn't have been able to lose weight so easily that the doctor commented it was too fast. I would make sure the doctor explains to you what he is treating and why. I would absolutely want clarification (by A1C test) as to whether you have diabetes.
Avatar f tn IR or insulin resistance is a sign of type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes. I am assuming you are referring to either the A1C or fasting blood glucose levels. The first thing of course is a change in life style. This does not mean you have to stop eating everything but to be more judicious in your eating habits. In addition, regular exercise is paramount in reducing those :numbers". Talk this over with your physician and get started on these changes.
1084115 tn?1385228589 At this stage, it is helpful for people with Hepatitis C to understand insulin resistance and what it can mean for them. If they have relatives with Type 2 diabetes, they will be genetically prone to developing it themselves and so would be advised to manage their diets very carefully and take plenty of exercise – to slow onset.
1353681 tn?1387083733 Magnesium deficits and increased urinary magnesium excretion can occur in people with insulin resistance and/or type 2 diabetes [24,25]. The magnesium loss appears to be secondary to higher concentrations of glucose in the kidney that increase urine output [2]." - NIH *** "It is well known that type 1 diabetes is associated with magnesium deficiency (1), which may be followed by vascular complications (2–5).
Avatar f tn If you are type 2, insulin resistance is considered key part of the problem (though insulin resistance can also happening in Type 1). To address insulin resistance you can:- 1. Lose excess weight if you are overweight 2. Adopt a low carb or even a ketogenic diet (be sure to get enough protein and don't overdo the fats) 3. Regular vigorous physical exercise 4. Insulin sensitizing drug such as metformin.
1033523 tn?1258035082 Normally there are no antibodies to insulin. If you have IgG and IgM antibodies against insulin, your body reacts as if the insulin is foreign. This may make insulin less effective, or neutralize it. Normal values are 5-20 mcU/mL while fasting; values may differ per laboratory. Check your lab results paperwork for the exact ranges. As far as daily testing, it's to early to tell until the doctor exams your test results. Good luck and let us know everything goes.
Avatar f tn The data regarding insulin resistance and its subsequent effect on HCV treatment is fairly new, and I don’t think there’s a firm consensus or body of knowledge available yet… only select studies showing a better response for patients that manage IR. If insulin resistance is found, it can be addressed with a combination of diet, exercise, weight management and drugs such as metformin, pioglitazone etc.
Avatar f tn In summary, hepatitis C promotes insulin resistance and INSULIN RESISTANCE INDUCES INTERFERON RESISTANCE, steatosis and fibrosis progression. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17131467?ordinalpos=14&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_RVDocSum "Other measures can be taken to enhance svr probabilities in the the face of negative predictors." Like what?
Avatar n tn t lose weight when I was hyperthyroid due to insulin resistance. I already had insulin resistance and this condition worsened to pre diabetes once I was hyperthyroid. I only started to lose weight since reversing my insulin resistance.
Avatar m tn In studying the insulin resistance of 29 people with Hepatitis C, Australian researchers have confirmed that they have high insulin resistance, a precursor to diabetes. However, almost all insulin resistance was in muscle, with little or none in the liver, a very surprising finding given that Hepatitis C is a liver disease. Insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas, helps the body use glucose for energy. The two most important organs that respond to insulin are the liver and muscle.
5274485 tn?1385860167 Hello, My research shows that LADA is typically not connected to insulin resistance (insulin resistance is typical to Type 2 diabetes not type 1 diabetes, of which LADA is a subtype). However, some people with Type 1 / LADA to go on to develop insulin resistance - so called Double Diabetes (where they have features of both type 1 and Type 2). Type 2 doesn't turn into type 1, but over time their pancreas burns out and then they also become insulin deficient and have to inject insulin.
973741 tn?1342342773 Hi The answer comes in understanding about insulin resistance. Insulin resistance typically precedes diabetes by many years, maybe even decades. High insulin is inflammatory. This is what contributes to / causes heart disease. They also know that even slightly elevated blood glucose, still in the "prediabetic range" is associated with heart disease. How to address insulin resistance? Lifestyle for sure.
Avatar m tn Hi there, Since 5 Years im having high triglycerides and cholestol. Some time it is getting with in the limit by medication or diet or herbal medicines.arround 4 years ive been diagnozed with fatty liver and Initially SGPT has gone up to 160 after getting the cholestrol control tablet(lopid)it has come down up to 80 and again come down to 32 by the help of udiliver (URSOCOL300 mg)tablet and syllimarin.
Avatar f tn Personally, I am not yet convinced that successfully getting rid of HCV means that insulin resistence , high blood sugar and diabetes type 2 go away. Diabetes type 2, I believe, will be an ongoing issue beyond HCV with possibly even more insidious ramifications than HCV. Good luck.
865758 tn?1285952904 That is totally within the normal range! Even if your doctor anticipates you having insulin resistance and proceeding to develop diabetes you aren't there yet. It would be much more appropriate to recommend a combination of diet for weight loss, cutting carbs and exercise. I'm going to research Insulin Resistance to see if I'm missing something, but that is what I'm seeing now. You need to ask your doctor to explain his treatment and what he is seeing in your medical picture.
Avatar m tn My insulin resistance worsened and I developed pre diabetes (also called impaired glucose intolerance) due to hyperthyroidism.
Avatar f tn Elevated blood glucose levels are indicative of gestational diabetes, although no one seems to know exactly what causes it. Hormones in the placenta can block the action of the mother's insulin in her body; insulin resistance makes it hard for the mother's body to use insulin, and without enough insulin glucose is turned into energy because it can't leave the body. A high level of blood glucose, called hyperglycemia, requires the baby to work harder.
