Common Questions and Answers about Diabetes and exercise effect

diabetes

Avatar f tn I am about 20 pounds overweight and have been trying to lose that to help with the diabetes. I have a healthy diet and try to exercise as much as I can. I also have Crohn's disease (which may have contributed to the onset of diabetes), so heavy exercise is out for me. I am young and rather active, but have a bad family history with diabetes and inflammatory bowel diseases. Sometimes I feel like no matter what I do my genetics always win.
Avatar f tn There is not enough information in your post to provide an ideal answer. If you would, please answer the following: 1. Would you consider your exercise slow, moderate, or strenuous [fast paced]? And why? 2. What kind/type of exercise was it? 3. How long in minutes was your exercise and was it continuous non-stop? 4. Did you snack/eat before and/or during your exercise period? 5. What period of time elapsed between your last meal and the pre-exercise test? 6.
Avatar n tn I was on the verge of collapse and quickly drank a 12 oz soda and some orange juice. My sugar then shot up to 145 and although shakey I felt a lot better. 30 more minutes rolled around, I ate rice and chicken, and in the middle of my meal I began feeling lightheaded again...sugar had dropped back to 52, so I drank another soda.
Avatar n tn I am a long distancer runner training for a marathon. I have lived with type 1 diabetes for thirteen years. I use the Bernstein dietary regimen and "exercise technique", which consists of eating small amounts of dextrose while running to compensate for the hypoglycemic effect of exercise. The aim is to keep blood sugar normal at all times. It works. Google "Bernstein diabetes" for the book.
325405 tn?1262290178 I was normal weight a little over 2 years ago before getting pregnant and got gestational diabetes and gained 90 pounds while pregnant. That turned in to type II diabetes after I delivered, and I feel like I'm stuck at too high of a weight right now (just over 200 pounds at 5'5"). I have taken a little off since being on metformin, about 5 pounds in 6 weeks. Is it just going to take a while? Can my doctor recommend a weight loss medication since I have diabetes?
Avatar n tn Hello again everone. Recently I ordered the Winsor Pilates DVDs. Although I have not yet received it, I would deeply appreciate some insight on persons who have tried this type of exercise. In the past couple weeks I've become lethargic, have not been running as often as I usually do as well as cheating on my diabetes. Consequently, I've gained about 6 pounds and I'm finally ready to get back to my orignal fitness level and stay in control.
Avatar m tn m lucky and like to exercise but watching what I eat is and has been my main problem. Again, thanks to all that responded and everyone elso in this group. It seems to be very supportive here.
Avatar f tn Make sure carefully watch your sugar levels (before and after) to see how your chosen exercise effect it. Also if you plan on going to a gym or far from home, make sure you have emergency pills and maybe even glucose syrup/candies on you- just in case. If you start feeling dizzy, confused, or start shaking make sure you stop! It's good to push yourself but not at to the point where it could be dangerous. And remember -exercise alone won't do very much.

Avatar f tn olive oil, coconut oils, cold pressed nut oils, unprocessed dairy), and avoid transfats (manmade and processed fats), strictly limit fructose from all sources (particularly high fructose corn syrup - but also limit fruits). Carbs should come from plenty of non-starchy vegetables. Avoid processed foods. Hope this can help.
Avatar m tn Diabetes Can effect Erection? If yes den please tell why this happened? How to correct this situation?
Avatar f tn My A1C has been improving slightly through weight loss, diet and exercise. It is now at 6.6 At its highest it was 7 or just under. I am not taking medication at present. My daily readings are slightly high in the morning at approx. 130 (dawn effect!), but normal the rest of the day at 100 or less. My GP prescribed 4x500 mg of Metformin daily which I am too hesitant to take. Any thoughts please?
Avatar f tn While increased appetite and weight could be a side effect of the pills, lack of exercise and improper diet can act as a compounding factor. I would suggest seeing a nutritionist for diet modification and consider consulting a physical trainer to design a mild-moderate/ tolerable work-out regimen to suit your needs, before considering other options. Hope this is helpful. Take care!

Avatar n tn re male or female but as long as you eat properly and exercise as your doctor suggests, you can have a normal and active married life. Paramount to maintaining health is keeping the weight down and exercising. Good luck and have a great life.
Avatar n tn Typically fat has no impact on blood sugar (should be natural and unprocessed), protein has moderate and slow effect on blood sugar (if the diabetes is mild may not have any obvious effect), carbohydrates have large effect on blood sugar. HOpe this helps. Best wishes for a smooth and healthy pregnancy.
Avatar f tn m not familiar with Celiacs disease but type 1 diabetes has absolutely no effect on weight loss.. I have type 1 diabetes and I work out about 5 or 6 hours a day 5 days a week.
Avatar n tn My husband was diagnosed about 4 years ago with type 1 diabetes and is insulin dependent. He is currently age 51. He has had high blood pressure and high cholesterol for most of his adult life. Knowing this, he has been faithful to ride bike or run at least 6 days per week. One of the symptoms that prompted him to go to the doctor before diabetes diagnosis was pain in his legs, which went away after he was on insulin.
Avatar f tn Some foods will make you spike and everyone is different in how food choices effect them. Light exercise such as walking before or after meals can help regulate your blood sugar. Just remember you are not alone. There are tons of support groups out there to help you. Warm wishes for you and your baby!
Avatar n tn Let me try and answer your questions about exercise and diabetes. I am not aware of any connection between the onset of diabetes and over-exertion. Exercise helps people with diabetes keep their blood sugar in good control and within a normal range. Glucose is used while exercising, which would lower the blood sugar level, not raise it. If you are predisposed to developing type 1 diabetes, no amount of exercise will change this.
923105 tn?1341827649 I was not told about the tendency to raise blood sugar as its side effect. I monitor my blood sugar daily upon waking up and in two weeks it has gone down to 123 fasting. I weighed 176 lbs. (5'6") on the buff at the beginning and lost a couple of pounds since then. I will be three quarter of a century old next month. I'm cutting down on my food intake particularly on carbs. I was told that it will take several weeks for Actos to take full effect.
Avatar m tn 5 on my HBA1C. The doctor tells me I have diabetes and must take precautions which will effect my lifestyle and intake of sugars. I would like to get a second opinion as I had a 6.5 on my HBA1C three months ago. Could I have diabetes? Is this a possible cause of my infection?
Avatar m tn t say what you are doing to treat your diabetes? You need to learn to reduce your carbs, get exercise and you should be on oral medications. Yes, losing all that extra weight is crucial to controlling your diabetes. But crash dieting is not healthy for anyone and in the case of a diabetic can be dangerous.
Avatar m tn Hi Kumarqwp, that does seem strange. Here is an article from MedHelp.org about blood sugar, exercise and diabetes; typically your sugars are more in danger of going down with exercise than going up. Hopefully SuperSally88 our CL will come along; she is an avid exerciser and may have advice for you! http://www.medhelp.
