Common Questions and Answers about Dha dosage

I take one capsule of Mega-Red per day (the daily recommended dosage). I was thinking of switching to N3 Oceanic's ResQ1250 which has about 5-6 times the concentration of EPA, DHA and Omega-3's. However, their daily recommended dosage is 4-6 capsules per day which seems to be the equivalent of taking about 30 Mega-Red capsules per day. Would appreciate your input as to whether my analysis is correct and why are they recommending such a very high dosage.
She is starting me on B12 shots and Neevo DHA. She said after I am finished having kids she would switch me to Deplin. And I will be on these for the rest of my life. Blood thinners/Levonox was not mentioned. I have read the posts and have not seen others on these meds....anyone have any information regarding this? I have also gained 30 lbs in the last year and was wondering if there was any correlation that other members have found.

Beta Carotene is natural and your body will process what it needs. I also started a supplement of DHA. DHA is a type of fish oil that is specifically related to the development of the neurological system and eyes and is really important in the first trimester when these important systems are forming. It is also a natural anti depressant and may help with hormone related emotions. I also recommend a trip to your OB/GYN for pre pregnancy exam and counseling. Good Luck TTC!!!
why is the daily dosage of Mega-Red just one capsule per day (and Trader Joe's and CVS's version) but the dosage for ResQ1250 is 4-6 capsules per day for a capsule that has a much higher concentration of EPA and DHA?
Based on my experience in using DHA, if I were in your shoes, I would start off with a couple of 500mg Carlson Super DHA per day and after about 3-4 days, double the dosage. After a week at 2,000mg, your feelings don't improve, then I would increase dosage to 2,500mg per day for another week. Still need more, then increase dosage to 3,000mg per day.
I am currently taking around 900 mg of cod liver oil(3 capsules of 300mg each) everyday. Is this dosage enough if i am using it for eyes and immunity? Also are there any reports of any side effects associated with its consumption?
Therefore, ingesting too much EPA/DHA is not an issue. The human body uses a variety of omega-3s, not just EPA and DHA. To make the full range of these omega-3s, the body needs ALA from flax oil (or walnuts or other sources) in addition to EPA and DHA. Thus, one needs to consume some ALA even if fish and/or fish oil are plentiful in one’s diet.
next question guys, i am starting to take dosage of omega fatty acids high dose of the epa balance and i want to know how fast does the body take it in to see positive results? i hae been on it for a bout 2 weeks and my moods and clear thinking has increased for the better. is it possible or could it be the combined of my depression meds with the omega 3 supps? i have depression, anxiety, adhd and i am trying to become more focused on natural vs drugs. thanks for all your help.

what i want to know is what is a higher safe dosage of the EFA supply?? i am taking 3000 mg of the combined EFA and DHA now but she told me the higher dose of EFA will increasingly help with the mood issues.
EPA 650 mg DHA 450mg Dont take it if it says Omega 3 1650mg Includes EPA and DHA High Quality like "Nordic Naturals" is best. (Available at whole foods and GNC.) Because they use only the highest quality with the least amount of mercury (which can be harmful during pregnancy, that is why you should limit fish.) High quality fish oil is safe to take during pregnancy.
I had two blow-ups in a span of 10 days. After the second blow-up, I increased my dosage of DHA back up to 2,000 mg per day. It appears that I will be on this dosage for the rest of my life. Technical description of DHA: DHA is "Docosahexaenoic Acid." One would look in the fish oils section of your local health/vitamin store. Another option is to google DHA and order on line. The most potent dosage that I've found is 500 mg.
Thanks everyone for responding. I even tried a lower dosage and still having nausea issues. I am investigating DHA pnly supplement which is an algae extract which is high in DHA but does not have EPA. As far as the contamination issue I was taking Jarrow formulas which is a very reputable brand and is free of contaminants. I also tried Nordic Naturals as well.
said that he would consider changing from Lipitor 5 mg to Crestor (dosage not yet mentioned) after 1 more blood test. 3 years ago another dr. suggested a change, but cardiologist said no need to. Another Dr. (forum) suggested using, in addition to Fish oil for tri-glycerides, niacin. And he said statin users should take CO-enzyme Q 300 mg.
The amount of fish oils in any commercial dog food is usually insufficient. There is no harm in giving a good fish oil supplement in addition. The proper ratio is 2:1 Omega 3:6. A good fish oil supplement such as Carlson's brand has the proper ratio. Try to get a fish oil supplement that says there is no Mercury in the preperation. If the label does not have this information the company usually has a customer service number or email address where you can ask.

taken two or three times a day - Also, anyone using Omega 3 fatty acids - EPA, DHA, and the good Omega 6 - GLA? Oftentimes, ADHD is caused by a defiency in the omega's.
I've heard that u must use 4000 or higher dosage of Folic acid when u have MTHFR... My question is that does ur prenatal vitamins contain 4000 mg of Folic acid ..if so what brand are u taking... or do u take additional over the counter folic acid to meet the desired level of folic acid...?
The doc prescribed additional folic acid b/c I am having twins and I just started taking DHA last week b/c my prenatal vitamins didn't have it and I was told that it's very good for the babies brain and eye development. I hope that this will help u to make the right decisions. Good luck & lots of baby dust thrown your way!!!! Let's us know how things go.
I use prescription which is $10.00 and then i take the DHA pills which are $10. So total i pay about $20+ tax. There are only about 24 pills in each so i have to buy them once a month.

Lipitor 5 mg, baby aspirin, fish oil (about 3-4 grams).
Of course, if he does begin to develop arthritis, or even if there is the threat of it (for example, after any injury) -then you could start him on a Glucosmaine/Chondroitin supplement. I am unsure of the dosage for a tiny thing like a Yorkie. You would be best to ask your vet for advice. It would be different if he had some health condition, or vitamin deficiency, in which case he would need supplements. Then that would be prescribed by your vet.
we've done all the tests on the book everything came back normal... I take prenatal vitamins/calc/dha/vit e ,exercise regularly,no alcohol/caffee.. what else can i do to increase my egg quality? i took 50 mg of clomid but ended with MC...
She suggested that I try ginkgo biloba and she said that the dosage amount doesn't matter because any unused by the body is excreted. I looked up the usage of ginkgo biloba for cats and it sounds like there have been some both favorable and unfavorable results. I would like to know what your opinion is concerning this matter. I have been looking to see if I can find a liquid ginkgo supplement to add to her canned food. She doesn't eat dry food and is terrible to get pills down!
I am 18 weeks pregnant and have been taking New Chapter whole mega prenatal fish oil with DHA for my entire pregnancy. About a month I got a new bottle but did not realize that i got the regular dose pills not the prenatal. I continued taking the 4 pills daily recommend on prenatal bottle and did not realize until today(bottle is now gone) that i got the wrong ones and dosage on bottle is 2 pills a day because they have more in each pill.
It is a sign you are constipated which well no kidding! I take CitraNatal DHA it has a stool softener in it already so that is helpful. You can keep trying different brands until one works. I had upset tummy with some brands but this one worked best for me. I also use Fiber Choice chewable fiber pills orange flavor, start with a half tablet and increase dosage until you are regular. Also drink a ton of water.
