Dextroamphetamine vs ritalin

Common Questions and Answers about Dextroamphetamine vs ritalin

adderall

Avatar f tn your son has apparently experienced positive results with Concerta which is a form of methylphenidate, while Adderall is a form of dextroamphetamine (Ritalin and Dexedrine). Frequently the forms of methylphenidate work better for ADHD Hyperactive while the dextroamphetamines work better for the Inattentive. Which is your son? To compound matters further if he is an "active" young man, is his activity "motor" or "distractablitIy" driven?
1367899 tn?1278121440 My sister and I started a blog on Adderall to learn more about the medication along with alternative and complementary ADHD treatment options. Any feedback from users of Adderall or Adderall XR would be greatly appreciated. Topics to be added this week on http://Adderall.org How is Adderall XR different from Adderall? [Adderall vs. Adderall XR] What is Adderall? How to Make Adderall: [Adderall Background Information] What are the best Adderall and ADHD books?
Avatar m tn * Stimulant medications, such as dextroamphetamine-based drugs (Adderall, Vyvanese) and methylphenidate-based drugs (Concerta, Daytrana, Ritalin). They are also available as generics. * Nonstimulant medication, such as the antidepressant bupropion (Wellbutrin and generic) or atomoxetine (Strattera), which is not available as a generic.
416668 tn?1241742794 Since then, I have tried Provigil, which worked at first then seemed to make me even more tired! I was also tried on ritalin which did the same thing. Now I have been taking dextroamphetamine for about 2-1/2 months. At first it gave me incredible migraines and tension in my neck and shoulders. My doctor thinks that my body has adjusted to the medication because I no longer have these symptoms. Now my left lower eyelid twitches nonstop and has been for at least 3-4 weeks now.
Avatar f tn The class of drugs called psychostimulants (active ingredient either methylphenidate or dextroamphetamine) remains the front line treatment of ADHD. We now have the benefit (since people who are now adults have used these medications as children) of seeing the impact of such drugs over many years. The evidence is overwhelming that the treatments are safe. Now, does this mean that there are no possible side effects? No.
Avatar n tn When psychostimulant medications, like Ritalin, are successful, there should be no sedating or 'drugged out' impact. While this might occur for a day or a few days, it should disappear. If not, either the medication is not the correct option, or the dose is not the best dose. Try to figure this out with the prescribing doctor. Strattera can be a good choice for children who do not respond well to a stimulant medication, or for children who cannot take Ritalin (e.g.
Avatar f tn For instance, if a person is on 30mg of Adderall and wants to switch to Ritalin,..you will need aprox. 50 to 60mg of Ritalin to be equivelant to the 30mg of Adderall. I am on 60mg of Adderall daily. I wanted to try Ritalin again just for the heck of it. I have shown proof from reliable sources, to my Doc that he needs to give me MORE than 60mg Ritalin for it to be effective as 60mg Adderrall. He still will NOT increase the Ritalin dosage.

Avatar n tn Sometimes he is given second chances in testing because he will blurt an incorrect answer before thinking--but knows the right answer. I have noticed when he is on ritalin, there is an improvement with his interacting and he comes across clever. Its as if the stimulant helps him think before he speaks. Unfortunately , none of the stimulants last longer than a few hours for him and they cause him anxiety.
Avatar f tn I have tried everything possible for my narcolepsy---the ritalin patches, elixir ritalin.......etc, provigil, other meds....and of course xyrem. I take dextroamphetamine daily, even though it does litte...if anything......I have tried capsules and tablets...crushed them in applesauce, etc....everything my neurologist (who is the 'main doctor' for sleep problems in my area) has suggested.....I literally can't keep going like this......
Avatar f tn was on adderall for 4 months 10 mg a day and now have switched to ritalin (its a long story) and 5mg not enough so i went up to another 5 a day. Seems to help but i feel abit impatient, given to impatience and easily annoyed lately is anyone experiencing these as sdie effects? I also take celexa and wellbutrin for depression and adderal was introduced because i was becoming depressed again feeling unmotivated and frankly lethargic....i worry i am doing a "bad" thing to my head....
Avatar f tn i do have mild add i found out dr changed me from adderall to ritalin...im also on xanax was on prozac dr changed it to wellbutrin sr..i have been reading where these meds can cause a seizure...
Avatar f tn High and low cortisol have similar symptoms - where they vary is weight gain vs loss and high vs low BP (but that is not perfect either!).
Avatar f tn My 5yr old beautiful boy has adhd/mild autism. I chose to go the natural route vs ritalin. He's on a gfcf diet and as well as avoiding foods he's allergic to. I am seeing a naturopath and homeopath to treat his condition. He's on multivitamins, candicease (to treat yeast), super EFA, Nu Sera, passiflora or calm by pascoe and digestive enzymes. Is he lacking something else? Has anybody here tried the natural way and see it work 100%?
649926 tn?1297657780 I wanted to let you know that I have narcolepsy, along with sleep stage disorder from Fibro, and have taken Provigil, Dextroamphetamine, Adderall, and Ritalin. None of these worked satisfactorily after a short time leaving me with mild head pressure at the base of my skull, shakiness, nausea, anxiety and an overall feeling of ill health that far outweighed the benefits. In addition, even with ins. I found Nuvigil and Provigil to be cost prohibitive.

Avatar f tn Certain drugs could be responsible like metoclopramide, prednisone, effexor, an antidepressant, paxil, an SSRI, wellbutrin, an antidepressant, Zoloft an SSRI and dextroamphetamine, a CNS stimulant. Consult a neurologist soon who will evaluate you for these symptoms and investigate these appropriately. Take care.
