Avatar m tn Hi, I am due to have a septoplasty for a deviated septum and the turbinate reduction surgery the end of March. My left turbinate is swollen on the side of the deviation. I have had coblation surgery (where they use Radio-frequency to shrink the turbinate). We only shrunk the front of my inferior turbinate. This did well for about 19 months (until I caught a cold back at Thanksgiving). Then the swelling started all over again- now in the back part of my turbinate.
Avatar m tn Hi I'm scheduled for turbinate reduction surgery and I wanted to know what to expect after surgery.. I have had many issues with my sinuses for the past two years. I finally saw an ENT and he saw I have a deviated septum and enlarged turbinates and concha bellus. My ENT wants to correct the septum and reduce turbinates and remove concha belluse sinuses..
Avatar m tn I did change ENT doctors since my turbinate surgery. He also did not correctly do my deviated septum and he damaged a nasal valve in the process. Since then it has been corrected but still have a smell. Also the smell is only on the left side. Right side no smell at all. I have had a cat scan and nothing shows up. Thinking of changing doctors again since he does not feel odor is a problem.
538090 tn?1213808112 Tony, You sure need to be careful about getting a deviated septum fixed along with turbinate reduction. I had a deviated septum fixed along with my sinuses opened back in 2004 . Its been a nightmare for me. I'd gladly take what I had back before surgery. My turbinates were not touched. Please take a look at the following site before getting any kind of nasal surgery, especially turb reduction. Not telling you what to do, and I'm not a doctor.
Avatar f tn I remmeber I had a turbinate reduction surgery done.I have seen the xray report which showed that the turbinates are normal. After about six to seven months these turbinates got swelled up again. For about two years I have tried many nasal sprays, anti allergy or anti inflammatory but there was no improvement.I have now started homeopathic medicine as a few doctors told me that best and complete cure for allergic rhinitis is in homeopathic medicine.
Avatar f tn Hello all, I'm new to this community. I have thyroid issues. Well in September I had deviated septum surgery, and turbinate reduction surgery. Since I had the surgery I've had internal tremors in my chest area. I've taken magnesium but it has not helped. I've also tried atenolol to no avail. Any ideas? I will post this in cardiology also. Just trying all areas. Thanks for any help.
Avatar f tn Just read your posting from six months ago as I explore why I had a severely deviated septum and it struck a chord. I had septoplasty, sinus surgery and turbinate reduction two years ago and it was the best thing I had done for myself in years. Unfortunately, I did not realize my problem until I was in my early 50s after suffering countless sinus infections while dealing with severe environmental allergies that were all diminishing my quality of life.
Avatar f tn After having no effect doctor performed a turbinate reduction surgery to correct turbinates. There was no improvement after surgery. The xray after surgey showed anterior group of paranasal sinus is clear.Again got treat changed doctors after 6 to 7 months again an xray was performed which showed Anterior group of paranasal sinus is clear and swollen turbinates. My Ct Scan and Mri reports say that swollen turbinate and paranasal sinus is clear.Allergy test show +3 for house dust mites.
402205 tn?1230481005 I had a CT and it showed a lot of nasal congestion but very little sinus. It also showed a slightly deviated septum and nasal polyps on the middle turbinate. What do you suggest I do?
Avatar f tn Had sinus sugery 4 days ago (fixed deviated septum, right turbinate reduction, sinus drainage hole enlarged). Gum pain is a lot worse than the sinus surgery pain in nose/sinuses. General anesthesia caused 3 ulcers, the one on gum-line hasn't healed, very painful, seemed to be the trigger. (Some numbing, tingling under top teeth from surgery but can deal with that.
Avatar m tn Since that time I have researched non-stop into ways to reduce the chronic swelling of my turbinates. I want to avoid turbinate surgery, since anecdotal reports show that all current surgical techniques risk destroying the parasympathetic nerve receptors, which are responsible for bringing balance to the nervous system (relaxation and alertness). Currently I am focusing on treating my severe reflux, since I have heard that this can lead to turbinate hypertrophy.
Avatar m tn Regardless of doubt by my ENT(s), I opted for Turbinate Reduction and Septoplasty, believing it may have been a deviated septum causing a pinched nerve. It's been 2 years since the Turbinate Reduction / Septoplasty . Strangely, I don't remember it having a significant or even any impact on my headaches, yet the decongestants do. The pain itself is mostly mild to moderate and more of a throbbing feeling than a sharp one.
Avatar n tn The last one was an ENT, he did a Turbinate Reduction with deviated septum because I also have Apnea. He was going to do additional throat surgery but said my last sleep study didn't support the surgery and didn't think it would be worthwhile.
Avatar f tn I also have an enlarged turbinate with a deviated septum. Every time I catch a cold I get a sinus infection, I go on antibiotics take decongestats night and day with ibuprofin and it always comes back. It seems to have gotten worse this month. My entire head was throbbing with neck pain and facial swelling. I have to lay on my right side at night to be able to breath out of my left nostrile. My ENT said I need to have the deviated septum fixed with surgery and have the turbinate coterised.
Avatar n tn I just had Septoplasty and turbinate reduction surgery to help with breathing due to a deviated septum (double). I went to a sleep clinic and they found the problem and this is why I was always exhausted and never feeling rested. I was concerned over the recovery due to having a 7 month old baby at home.
Avatar m tn I was told to go back for a CT scan and yesterday I was shocked to be told that I have a deviated septum (S shape), either a nasal cyst or polyp, and one turbinate significantly larger than the other. The ENT specialist has recommended an "all in one" surgery to remove my polyp/cist, reduce my turbinate and straighten my septum. He figures the reason for my total lack of smell is due to my nose being so blocked that nothing can get to my smelling glands/receptors.
Avatar f tn I am 4 weeks after coblation turbinate reduction. No allergies (had 2 times skin tests) and sinus issues (as far as I know). My turbinates were enlarged during the nights only, during the days, when I am up, I can breathe. When I am laying down always one of my sides is clogged. So, 4 weeks after the coblation I feel pretty much the same- always one of my nostrils is stuffed during the night. When I am up, I am o.k. as before.
Avatar n tn I did have a nasal septoplasty with turbinate reduction done in 2008 to correct the deviated septum, however I experienced no relief from this, and have not had the crackling issues in my ears go away at all. What is more, I went to an ENT just weeks ago in 2018, had a CT scan of the sinuses done, and the ENT tells me that the result is that I have a deviated septum, AGAIN, and will need a repeat surgery for that and to shave down the turbinates. This is ridiculous.
Avatar m tn Hello, For such accidental deviation of the nose middle bone, it is advisable to get a CT scan done and then consult an ENT surgeon as you may need to get a surgery done to restore the turbinate. If you mean to say that the septum has deviated then it may need septoplasty. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar n tn I had Turbinate reduction sinus surgery two months ago, my nose is sensitive when I breath, the colder the air the more it hurts, I don't have any other issues, other than this burning sensation/pain I'm breathing fine, Do I have Empty nose Syndrome or will this pain eventually go away?
Avatar m tn I finally visited a ENT for my allergies and he noticed I have a deviated septum and large turbinates. Is it normal to breath from one nostril at a time with the other cometly blocked or is that an indication of imflamation in the sinuses. I do get alot of nasle poping everymorning and its like good relief when they pop. I can never have both nostriles cometley open. My symptoms are dizzyness, sneezing the minute I walk outdoors and hedachs in the temples. and top part of the head.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone, For starters, sorry for the really long post. I've just joined Medhelp to seek advice for my horrible nasal congestion that's persisted for more than 4 years. About 4 years ago, I noticed I started to have one-sided nasal congestion whenever I was sitting or laying down. When I turn to the other side, the congestion will shift to the other nostril. I'm a mouth-breather when sleeping because I can only partially breathe through my nose.
Avatar n tn I had surgery to straighten a deviated septum, straighten the nose, and open it up some, but the turbinates were apparently left intact - this at age 17. Had the runny nose and congestion before. That was improved afterward and I had 5 or so good years, then the opposite problem of tooo-dry nose-sinuses started to set in and it's been beating me up for about 25 years now.
Avatar n tn I believed them to be sinus related and had two surgeries to correct a deviated septum and balloon my sinuses. After each surgery, I noticed worsening burning nasal pain and dental pain that would come and go with changes in temperature or humidity. The ENTs I saw assured me I would feel better but I never did. After seeing an endodontist for the dental pain I narrowed it down to nerve pain, some variation of Charlin's Sydrome or nasal neuralgia.
679481 tn?1226444296 The concha bullosa of the middle turbinate or the deviated nasal septum, may be the reason, as your ENT feels. One can say this for sure only after 'surgery' for the same. Your low grade fever is not explained, though. The other option is to wait and see, as the CT and MRI are okay.
Avatar f tn why doctors say that there is nothing in your reports everything is normal? what should I do? I have had a turbinate reduction surgery in the past but it was of no use. I have no social life as I am always scared that my nose will get blocked, how will I beath? what will happen to me? I would have to run to a hospital emergency to get oxygen.I can not drive, have no social life because of the constant strech in my nose and feeling breathless from nose.Kindly provide me an advice.
