Avatar n tn I know surgery is an option for the deviated septum. But will my nose ever not hurt again??? It also causes so much pressure in my ears that it has aggravated my TMJ. Sure wish I knew then what I know now...
1329703 tn?1275158081 I have a deviated septum that was found when my allergy shots started working but I still couldn't breathe through my nose. I also have mild sinus issues with them clogging and a mild infection (normally my immune system gets it under control within a week or so). I have the surgery in a couple of weeks so I can't comment on the long term affects yet but I'm hopeful it will help!
Avatar m tn I had a septoplasty in the summer to repair my badly deviated septum. I now wake up alert and full of energy for the first time in my life and school is a breeze. I had so many problems that I thought for sure it could not be related to my sinuses. ALL of them were. I feel like my life before the surgery was just wasted because I didn't function at half the level I now do.
Avatar m tn Right now, i am not sure if I have a hole, but lots, lots, lots of mucuous and mucuousy bloody as well as occasionaly nose bleeds not caused by anything - not drug; not nothing just spotenous. Now my gilffriend has suffered from sponteneous nose bleeds her whole like without any drugs or acohol with the exceptional glass of wine with dinner - no more. Sorry for misspellings. Trying to trype of lap/chest and net working well.
538090 tn?1213808112 My husband had surgery for his deviated septum along with turbine reduction. It seems he broke his nose in highschool, while playing basketball, and didn't realize it. The tissue grew too much inside his nose and started to cause him to have several sinus infections over the years. The congestion your are getting may be due to the affected tissue swelling because of your flu or bronchitis. The surgery will help clear your breathing passage and give you some relief.
Avatar m tn ve had chronic nose, mouth and throat problems for over 3 years!! ENT docs cannot find a reason. I do have a deviated septum and spur in my left nostril (not the cause of my other symptoms). Anyway, I can't use nasal sprays as I get nose bleeds. What I found myself in the pharmacy was NeilMed NasoGel. I've been using this and it does help a lot to clear up some of the stuffiness and helps to keep my nasal passages moist.
Avatar n tn I havent used that nosespray in over 6 months.
1387175 tn?1326400997 I went through that with my father and two trips to the ER. It was horrible. He did have a deviated septum and was taking aspirin. The last visit, the ER doc actually had to do a cauterization. He also used to use a nasal spray daily and that may have aggravated the condition Has your mother seen an ENT doctor? If not, I suggest she do so.
Avatar f tn t want to have to keep getting surgery to correct my deviated septum. Is there any other options (besides nose sprays)?
Avatar f tn The headaches were also on the left side due to pressure from the clogged nostril. He told me I had a deviated septum. I scheduled surgery that day because he said he could fix my problem and make it easier to breathe. Well he did make it easier to breathe out of the clogged side, but he moved the septum too far and now I cannot breathe out of what was my "good" side. My headaches are worse than they were before the surgery.
Avatar n tn I guess I am wondering if you have a cold or did you have a cold? Is it because of dry air? Nose bleeds (depending on how often and how bad) can mean other things. How bad is your nose bleeding and how often? Sometimes you have to have a little capillary burned (sounds bad but it's not!) to stop the bleeding.
Avatar n tn Im pretty sure i dont have a deviated septum because i dont think i have been using long enough or often enough (6 months a couple times a week). But my left septum is inflamed and red and gets sore and bleeds when i use that side. I know everyone is gonna tell me to stop especially that nostril. Please no lectures or advice on kickin the habbit just wonder if anyone else ever experienced this, the outcome, or any insight would be helpful. Thank you...
1452978 tn?1285110262 Hi, welcome to the forum, the most common cause for nasal obstruction is Deviated nasal septum (DNS). This condition leads to obstruction and breathing difficulty. This can lead to sinus infection, ear infection and headaches. You need to undergo detailed examination of nose and radiography of the sinuses to rule out existing sinusitis. The septoplasty or rhinoplasty for deviated nasal septum (DNS) will help you to relieve your symptoms.
Avatar f tn I got in to see the ENT dr a week ahead of schedule. I have chronic sinusitis, scars on both ears from past infections, and "fairly severe deviated septum,". He had trouble getting the scope up my nose, had to go to a smaller one. He put me on a "push" of prednisone, antibiotics, and Nasonex. Also scheduled a CT scan of sinus's in a month to see if infection is gone. Then he said we would decide what to do. My sx were a constant drippy nose, pressure in ears, headaches.
Avatar f tn The only reasons to fix your deviated septum would be 1) you are finding it difficult to breathe through your nose 2) you have sleep apnea and fixing your septum may help with CPAP compliance 3) you are having severe, difficult to treat nosebleeds 4) you are looking for cosmetic rhinoplasty (of which a septoplasty may be a part). It is shameful if anyone is trying to frighten you into having this surgery.
4556201 tn?1356445652 It could be a combined procedure, surgery for the deviated septum and the bump. Consult your primary care physician, who may then refer you to an ENT surgeon. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn The foul smell could indicate a sinus infection requiring antibiotics. As for the nose bleeds, I'm not sure but might be linked to the possible sinus infection.
Avatar m tn I have noticed that the sit of my nose where my deviated septum had been seems to still be significantly inflamed and that the generalized area around where the maxillary sinus would be hurts as well. Perhaps the most annoying, is the fact that my upper left molars kill. is this likely just residual inflammation from the surgery itself? i do know there was a good amount of infection in the left maxillary prior to my surgery, so wondering if this is just aggravated by the surgery.
Avatar f tn I just had septoplasty and sinus surgery last Wed. Too early to tell about the success, but the only way to cure a deviated septum is surgery. I never get the easy stuff!!!
Avatar m tn Thanks for the advice. I'll give that Flip-Turn Sinus Flush a go.
Avatar f tn I had a nasal surgery of deviated septum...called sub mucosal resection...and after dat I am suffering like hell..I am suffering from a stuffy nose...and white thik mucus..draining from my nose into throat..which leaves a horrible taste..which has reduced my social interaction considerably..please help...
Avatar f tn Septoplasty for deviated septum and coblation of the turbinates My teenage son had this as outpatient surgery two days ago. Day one was pretty rough, so keep current on those painkillers. His doctor's advice; use bags of frozen peas instead of ice packs - they mold to the face better. The cold really helps. He also told me to get an over the counter spray called "simply saline" to spray right in the nose to keep it moist.
Avatar n tn So I went to the ENT today and had them stick that scope up my nose and apparently I have a pretty bad deviated septum ... he gave me a script for a nasal spray and an antibiotic but I'm not sure what the antibiotic is for, I don't like taking antibiotics if I don't have to so I'm hesitant to take that. He mentioned surgery but for the possible future ... I'm hoping the nasal spray will help the allergies and the post nasal drip ...
Avatar f tn Plastic surgery can repair the deviated septum in most cases...but as far as tissue loss....and other damage...sometimes those things are irreversible. Certainly wouldn't hurt to have a consultation with a physician about it. Best of luck!
