Deviated septum surgery for allergies

Common Questions and Answers about Deviated septum surgery for allergies

1329703 tn?1275158081 I have a deviated septum that was found when my allergy shots started working but I still couldn't breathe through my nose. I also have mild sinus issues with them clogging and a mild infection (normally my immune system gets it under control within a week or so). I have the surgery in a couple of weeks so I can't comment on the long term affects yet but I'm hopeful it will help!
Avatar n tn So I went to the ENT today and had them stick that scope up my nose and apparently I have a pretty bad deviated septum ... he gave me a script for a nasal spray and an antibiotic but I'm not sure what the antibiotic is for, I don't like taking antibiotics if I don't have to so I'm hesitant to take that. He mentioned surgery but for the possible future ... I'm hoping the nasal spray will help the allergies and the post nasal drip ...
Avatar m tn it revealed several polyps through out my sinuses, pus in my left cheek sinus, and airpocket in another sinus, deviated septum and my turbinates are 4x larger then they should be .im on xyzyal which is like zyrtec, veramyst, singular and i take claritin every day...
Avatar f tn My ENT also wanted ME to get surgery done for a deviated septum becuase I had chronic sinus infections...but I was able to get things under control with XLear (a saline nasal spray with xylitol, which is a natural antibacterial). Doc gave me this as a LAST resort after all steroid sprays were ineffective and caused headaches. Wish he would have given it to me first and I'm sure glad I didn't have surgery! I'm not a Dr. but my advice would be to look for other answers.
Avatar m tn The septoplasty or rhinoplasty for deviated nasal septum (DNS) will help you to relieve your symptoms. If sinusitis cannot be managed with medication; surgical drainage would be definitive therapy. I suggest you to consult ENT surgeon for further management. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn is it because my deviated septum is visibly crooked there? (you can see my septum on the inside of my left nostril) and the hole to breathe in is smaller? or is it the allergies/small sinus infection? or could it even be really bad Anxiety making me feel this way? Any response is greatly appreciated. Or if somebody else has had this as well that would be great.
Avatar f tn PLEASE HELP! I have had 15 years of sinus/allergy/ear problems... I also have a deviated septum They ruled out sinus surgery with MRI'S/Cat scans... IK went for a hearing test...perfect hearing but a 'typanogram" test showed I have Euchstation tube dysfunction on right...they told me to live with it and that I should not have tubes put in as an adult...told me to have septum correction surgery instead...
Avatar f tn I hope the title doesn't seem too silly, but yes, I haven't been able to find a slow breathing technique that works for me in the last 2 years. I can't breathe through my nose really well, deviated septum. ENT's told me to fix my anxiety before contemplating any surgery. And then I clench because I have TMJ, that is a work in progress. I breathe abdominally but I constantly feel jammed up around the neck and mouth.
Avatar f tn This is my 2nd bout with nasty sinus pain. My sinuses and teeth hurt, sometimes it hurts into my ears and down my neck. I do have allergies. I do not have a runny or stuffy nose or a fever. Post nasal drip is at its norm. I have tried over the counter sinus meds--they don't seem to help much. I limit how much I take to avoid a rebound effect. I also get sinus headaches. I am taking claritin for allergies. The heating pad helps some. I hate to waste a trip to the doctor if not necessary.
Avatar f tn I went to an EET and had sinus surgery done a few years ago to open up for drainage and to repair a deviated septum. However, since then the pressure and lightheadedness is getting worse and adding to the equation I've got fullness in my ears. Sometimes at night it's all I can do to stand it; the pressure is so bad. I've been to the doctor complaining several times and he says it's "Indiana sinuses". I just don't know where to turn or what to do.
Avatar m tn Hi, I am due to have a septoplasty for a deviated septum and the turbinate reduction surgery the end of March. My left turbinate is swollen on the side of the deviation. I have had coblation surgery (where they use Radio-frequency to shrink the turbinate). We only shrunk the front of my inferior turbinate. This did well for about 19 months (until I caught a cold back at Thanksgiving). Then the swelling started all over again- now in the back part of my turbinate.
538090 tn?1213808112 My husband had surgery for his deviated septum along with turbine reduction. It seems he broke his nose in highschool, while playing basketball, and didn't realize it. The tissue grew too much inside his nose and started to cause him to have several sinus infections over the years. The congestion your are getting may be due to the affected tissue swelling because of your flu or bronchitis. The surgery will help clear your breathing passage and give you some relief.
Avatar m tn I have seen an ENT and had a CAT scan. The result was that I had a slightly deviated septum and could have surgery, but he said there's no way of knowing whether or not it would help. Also, he said that though an allergist will test for common allergins, it's impossible to test for all allergins, so that could be a cause as well. I do not have the money to pay for surgery, especially if there is no guarentee it will even help at all.
Avatar n tn I suggested maybe it was my sinuses, he did a CT scan of them and said my sinuses were clear, but I do have a severely deviated septum, which I do not think is contributing to these problems, since I have had no injuries to my nose, this would lead me to believe that I have had this issue all of my life (deviated septum). I have been checked for thyroid problems twice and my BP is good. I have seen a dentist and do not have TMJ or any abscesses.
Avatar m tn Chronic sinusitis can be caused by infections of the upper respiratory tract, allergies and deviated nasal septum .Other suspected causes include mold or fungi in the sinuses.Diagnosis is confirmed by x-rays and CT sinuses.Treatment includes antibiotics(for acute attacks),decongestants, corticosteroids(nasal sprays and oral) and surgery in severe cases.Pls consult an ENT specialist and get it evaluated. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn Hello, I wanted to know the risksof having a deviated septum fixed. I had this problem for over 10 years and it seems to keep coming back. I had it fix twice before. I am noticing that the cartilage in my nose seems less so I am concerned. I don't want to have to keep getting surgery to correct my deviated septum. Is there any other options (besides nose sprays)?
Avatar f tn Thank you so much for replying to my question. I had a cousin who had the surgery and he did say it improved his breathing immensely. I know I have rhinitis. But, I do believe I have a combination of other things that are preventing me from breathing properly. Excess mucus, phlegm...coughing..Thanks again, would be awesome to see if the surgery would help a bit.
Avatar f tn The headaches were also on the left side due to pressure from the clogged nostril. He told me I had a deviated septum. I scheduled surgery that day because he said he could fix my problem and make it easier to breathe. Well he did make it easier to breathe out of the clogged side, but he moved the septum too far and now I cannot breathe out of what was my "good" side. My headaches are worse than they were before the surgery.
Avatar m tn I also had a CT scan done on my sinus area and was told it was clear. I would like to mention that I had deviated septum surgery about five years ago. These issues are really starting to affect my quality of life, and feel I feel hopeless. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

1452978 tn?1285110262 Hi, welcome to the forum, the most common cause for nasal obstruction is Deviated nasal septum (DNS). This condition leads to obstruction and breathing difficulty. This can lead to sinus infection, ear infection and headaches. You need to undergo detailed examination of nose and radiography of the sinuses to rule out existing sinusitis. The septoplasty or rhinoplasty for deviated nasal septum (DNS) will help you to relieve your symptoms.
Avatar m tn Ahh, I wish I would of known this when he literally just sent me out to get a CT scan done on my throat 3 weeks ago! Haha. It was a bit pricey, paid with cash because with my bunk insurance it would of been even more going that route. Blowing out the blocked side doesn't really do much at all, though, it still remains 90% blocked. A buddy of mine had a deviated septum and gone through surgery for it, and he's SO glad he got it done.
