Avatar f tn Hi, a deviated nasal septum can cause an obstruction to breathing and correction will ensure that your symptoms will improve. But this may not help correct the post nasal drip. Post nasal drip could be due to a sinus infection, a cold or a chronic allergy. These can lead to a post nasal drip and lead to an irritation in the throat. It could be sinusitis, if it is accompanied by nasal stuffiness and facial pain or pressure. Post nasal drip could also be due to allergens.
Avatar f tn Hello, I only joined this forum in the hope I may get some tips on how to alleviate some of the problems I have with this complaint, I think I must have suffered with Post nasal drip for a couple of years. The very worst and most depressing symptom I have is the awful feeling of thick phlegm at the back of my throat some days it makes me gag.
Avatar m tn I have been having chronic problems with post nasal drip and pressure on the bridge of my nose. It's not terribly bothersome, rather annoying. Let me explain what I mean by post nasal drip. I feel like there is constantly mucus stuck in the back of my nose. It isn't really dripping down my throat, rather just sitting in the back of my nose. It feels thick and I often have to snort in order to get it out. It is not discolored, just clear/milky white.
Avatar n tn So I went to the ENT today and had them stick that scope up my nose and apparently I have a pretty bad deviated septum ... he gave me a script for a nasal spray and an antibiotic but I'm not sure what the antibiotic is for, I don't like taking antibiotics if I don't have to so I'm hesitant to take that. He mentioned surgery but for the possible future ... I'm hoping the nasal spray will help the allergies and the post nasal drip ...
Avatar f tn I had a nasal surgery of deviated septum...called sub mucosal resection...and after dat I am suffering like hell..I am suffering from a stuffy nose...and white thik mucus..draining from my nose into throat..which leaves a horrible taste..which has reduced my social interaction considerably..please help...
Avatar f tn Hello, All these symptoms are leading to the possibility of chronic post nasal drip. Post-nasal drip is mucus accumulation in the back of the nose and throat leading to, or giving the sensation of, mucus dripping downward from the back of the nose. Post-nasal drip can be caused by excessive or thick secretions, or impairment in the normal clearance of mucus from the nose and throat.
Avatar m tn I got whacked in the nose with an elbow playing basketball about 20 years ago. It bled like you wouldn't believe and since then I've had sort of a "Roman nose" effect on the bridge of my nose. This was when I was living in southern California where I grew up. I moved to the Seattle area 10 years ago and about a year after I got here I came down with what turned out to be a BAD sinus infection. It lasted about 6 months, chronic coughing, pressure in my face, etc.
Avatar f tn hi,this could be due to "post nasal drip".Post-nasal drip (PND) occurs when excessive mucus is produced by the sinuses. The excess mucus accumulates in the throat or back of the nose. It can be caused by rhinitis, sinusitis, or laryngopharyngeal acid reflux. It can be enhanced or sometimes even caused by allergies Do you have history of sinusitis, deviated nasal septum?.Please consult ENT surgeon.
Avatar n tn t realIy runny but I get a ton of post nasal drip that makes me feel as though I am drowning. I got allergy testing done and I am not allergic to anything. I have tried different kinds of antibiotics on several occasions, nasal spray, nasal rinses, steroids, and prescription decongestant. Nothing seems to help at all. I'm tired of the pain and the headaches.
Avatar n tn I have had four surgeries over 7 years for cosmetic reasons on my deviated septum. The last time I had surgery I was warned that I may be left wth nasal drip due to the amount of procedures I have had...I accepted this and after my last operation in May 2008 I have had nasal drip which is aggrevated by dust and pollen etc I keep this at bay with cetirizine hydrocholride.
Avatar m tn Smell of mushrooms could be due to old pus and secretions in the nasal sinuses or even due to post nasal drip. Chronic sinusitis is often allergic and can be due to mold infection too. A damp wall in the house, carpets, and ACs are all potential sources of mold. Please consult an allergy specialist. You may need to take the allergy test. Chronic sinusitis can also be due to EBV infection. The other possibility is deviated nasal septum.
Avatar m tn Hi, there are two possibilites, "post nasal drip" or larynx inflammation. Do you have deviated nasal septum or sinusitis? Chronic discharge from sinuses drain out constantly in throat, causing sticky throat. Treatment is anti histamincs, decongestants along with antibiotics. Try steam inhalation along with ambroxol. For laryngitis, usually steriods are prescribed but best is to consult ENT surgeon. Indirect laryngoscopy is done to see larynx condition.
Avatar f tn I have asthma, acid reflux, chronic sinusitis, and a deviated septum. Over the past 2 years I've been having worsening issues with coughing after eating. I feel like I have a lot of post nasal drip and heartburn as well. I often cough up clear mucus until I vomit especially if I eat heavy meals which I try to avoid. Pasta seems to be a major trigger. I take medicines for all of my health issues. I keep a dry tickling cough during the day also.
Avatar m tn also have a deviated septum and issues with post nasal drip. It sounds funny and weird, but if you have ever been to an AA meeting or know anything about the program, they refer to drinking as an allergy. I always found that I had lots of mucus production after drinking. its probably a response to the trauma drinking causes to the body, It does wear down the throat and cause irritation in the esophagus as well as the stomach.
Avatar f tn I have had post nasal drip for the last 6 years. It is constant. It is thick and causes me to cough up mucus constantly. I have seen many doctors and specialists who have put me on acid reflux medicines, antibiotics, etc... nothing has worked! I am lost as to what this could be from and where to go next to try and get some relief, as nothing so far has worked. I am currently trying spariva, but this has not helped either. Has anyone else had this problem?

1263939 tn?1270698138 Hello All, just trying to see if anyone out there suffers from Post Nasal Drip as badly as I do and if there are any relievers out there I'm not aware of. Sudafed, Mucinex, Nose Spray, Netti Pot, Claritan all somewhat help but not completely - they just provide semi temporary relief. I had a septoplasty a few years ago and unfortunatley despite what the ENT says I think it caused the PND to be worse.
538894 tn?1630257531 s a bit hard to swallow. Also, I have an ulcer on my tongue, and sore throat (most likely from post nasal drip). I got up from the couch yesterday and thought that I was going to spit out some phlegm and It was all blood. 7 years ago I went thru all kinds of antibiotics and treatments for sinusitus and the best thing the doctors were able to come up w/ was allergies. Any Ideas? I am tired of this suffering.
Avatar m tn t really feel like there is too much mucous in my throat, so i doubt its post nasal drip. In the beginning it looked slightly red. Does anyone know what this could be?
Avatar f tn Hi, i have had a post nasal drip for a whole year now and I am suspicious if it might drip into my lungs, cause whenever i force myself to couch, I get bubbling, rattling sounds , and my voice sounds and feels unclean, and when I lay on my back, then i get a load phlegm in my throat, along with the unclean voice and i have to force myself to couch it out. and once i couch the phlegm comes out, my voice gets clear.
Avatar f tn Yes, there can be a link. Every time you stop breathing, you create a vacuum effect that can suck up your stomach juices into your throat (causing your voice box inflammation which can lead to hoarseness, cough, lump sensation and post-nasal drip). It's been shown that stomach contents can then either go into your lungs or into your ears or sinuses. Consider that it's not just acid, but bile, digestive enzymes, and bacteria that's coming up.
