538090 tn?1213808112 My question to you is, is it common for both nostrils to get congested at the same time because of deviated septum or my flu and bronchitis plays a role in it? I haven't been sleeping for over three weeks because of that and is developing anxiety and is afraid to go to bed. Since my surgery date is in September, I would like you to help me to regain my sanity and restore some sleep.
Avatar m tn My family has been telling me that there is a terrible oder coming from my nose, nearly all the time, sometimes its so bad that they smell it just sitting in the car with me! No one else has told me this but I think thats just people not wanting to comment. However I can never smell the odor myself. I do have a "stuffed nose" often, but this is usually pre/post a cold, so I'm not sure if thats really the issue.
Avatar f tn I can certainly feel for you! I have been on the same boat as you for over 20 years. Every time I ask a doctor to send me into an allergist it's always the same thing: " You're over 20...your allergies can change every two years...by the time we are able to get you in to see one, your allergies will have changed." UGH!! I've had the exact same symptoms for over 30 years now! You could ask to see an ENT...at least they might be able to help with the nose symptoms.
Avatar n tn I had surgery to straighten a deviated septum, straighten the nose, and open it up some, but the turbinates were apparently left intact - this at age 17. Had the runny nose and congestion before. That was improved afterward and I had 5 or so good years, then the opposite problem of tooo-dry nose-sinuses started to set in and it's been beating me up for about 25 years now.
Avatar n tn My wisdom teeth have not come in yet, they were supposed to 3 years ago, my throat itches and I always have a stuffy nose. You may have a deviated septum and that causes the nose and throat stuff. As for you having cancer, trust me they would know by your blood work. My friend had no problems no signs, went to the doctor for an after college check up and to do a CBC and other blood work, his numbers for everything came back off the chart. They would know if its cancer.
Avatar m tn I forgot to specify.. It always have been like that so my nose is not broken or anything it's only the septum that is deviated.. I can feel it when I enter my fingers in my nose and touch the septum. so.. is this fixable?
Avatar f tn If for allergies and an already stuffed up nose , you could be breathing out of your mouth more than your nose for a bit .
Avatar f tn I have been to an ear, nose and throat specialist. He said my septum was slightly deviated and my tonsils a little big. I have been to an ear, nose and throat specialist 3 times. Which resulted in two conchoctomies, which didn't last, and now I am on a cortisone nose spray called Avamys. It doesn't work! The reason I went again this last time was that I had sinustitis, it went away after 6 weeks. But I continued to have spontanious headaches and mostly in my forehead.
Avatar n tn I know surgery is an option for the deviated septum. But will my nose ever not hurt again??? It also causes so much pressure in my ears that it has aggravated my TMJ. Sure wish I knew then what I know now...
Avatar f tn The headaches were also on the left side due to pressure from the clogged nostril. He told me I had a deviated septum. I scheduled surgery that day because he said he could fix my problem and make it easier to breathe. Well he did make it easier to breathe out of the clogged side, but he moved the septum too far and now I cannot breathe out of what was my "good" side. My headaches are worse than they were before the surgery.
4556201 tn?1356445652 You will get a better cosmetic result from a plastic surgeon, but maybe the ENT would cost less. Just have the bump fixed at the same time as the deviated septum is fixed. It is a common procedure.
Avatar f tn Might want to get an opinion from a ear, nose and throat doctor to see if breaking your nose has damaged your nose. It might have changed the deviated septum to a point that something should be done to fix it. Anything that is very painful and doesn't improve greatly within 24 hours should be seen by a doctor.
Avatar m tn My strong feeling is that since the septum is deviated the opening are small and they get blocked easily when the blood vessels in my nose become swollen due to irritants or blowing. I want to make a point here. My nose gets blocked my stuff in my nose and also due to swollen blood vessels. Blowing removes the stuff in my nose but irritates my nose and the blood vessels become swollen. So there will still be blockage in my nose and hence not much relief. 4.
Avatar m tn I have been having chronic problems with post nasal drip and pressure on the bridge of my nose. It's not terribly bothersome, rather annoying. Let me explain what I mean by post nasal drip. I feel like there is constantly mucus stuck in the back of my nose. It isn't really dripping down my throat, rather just sitting in the back of my nose. It feels thick and I often have to snort in order to get it out. It is not discolored, just clear/milky white.
Avatar f tn well any way on the side that it is bad when you look straight on at it it goes in then out then in again like a small s bend like the septum is bent a ,little, is this because the tissue is healing and part is healing quiker than the other or is it because i didnt notice before? do you reckon or does anyone know if when the tissue heals this will go back straight again as i think it may just be the tissue inside the nose where it has not regenerated yet. please if some one knows answer me.
Avatar f tn I do have a bit of a cough though and I constantly have a stuffed up nose because I was recently diagnosed with a slight deviated septum and polyps plus blockage in the nose. I always have to breathe through my mouth. I was put on steroids and nasal spray and my nose cleared up a bit but the lymph node in my neck still hasn't shrunk. Only when I'm at work it seems to shrink. I also have asthma and I've had it since I was a child.
Avatar n tn For me, having swollen turbinates from the nasal cycle is worsened by having less space in my nose to breathe, due to deviation of the septum, which is why I get the nasal pressure and complete congestion that alternates sides. Other than surgery to correct this, nasal sprays/saline could help, but for me they do nothing.
Avatar n tn i also felt that the air coming in the one hole of my nose is also passing through the other side of my nose. and also one hole of my nose often blocked kind of stuffy or congested. not only im having nightmares because of this but im always remember my dreams!.. that make me felt tired after i wake up. and also i felt pain on my left side of my chest. i also slept for only 4 hours. with matching nightmares and remembering the dreams.

1329703 tn?1275158081 I have a deviated septum that was found when my allergy shots started working but I still couldn't breathe through my nose. I also have mild sinus issues with them clogging and a mild infection (normally my immune system gets it under control within a week or so). I have the surgery in a couple of weeks so I can't comment on the long term affects yet but I'm hopeful it will help!
Avatar f tn s of sinus infection. But it souns like the severe deviated septum is the cause of this, not primarily bacterial. Will this probably mean surgery? Websites make it sound simple, out-pt treatment. Would like to have the real scoop from real people who have had this done. I'm not looking to beautify my nose, just be able to breath thru it, not snore, and not constantly blowing it. I would appreciate any input. Thank you for your help.
Avatar n tn Every time I have a migraine, one or both sides of my sinuses are completely stuffed up. The stuffy nose always goes away when the migraine is over, although I never really breathe well from my nose, probably due to my deviated septum. I also don’t seem to have a very good sense of smell if that helps. It’s definitely not as good as it was when I was younger. The pain always seems to start in either my nose area or the back of my neck.
Avatar f tn t want to have to keep getting surgery to correct my deviated septum. Is there any other options (besides nose sprays)?
