Common Questions and Answers about Deviated septum know if you have

deviated-septum

Avatar m tn All of these problems you described could be related to your deviated septum. I have had many of the problems that you have experienced although not all of them. I am now a senior in college. I had a septoplasty in the summer to repair my badly deviated septum. I now wake up alert and full of energy for the first time in my life and school is a breeze. I had so many problems that I thought for sure it could not be related to my sinuses. ALL of them were.
Avatar m tn For temporary relief, since your septum is deviated to the left, you can lie in bed on your right side and if you notice after 5 min your septum will fall towards the right giving you more breathing room on the left. The question on whether or not you will need to go through the operation would be best suited for your doctor to advise you on.
Avatar m tn | And I would like to know if that would be easy to fix it and what would it cost in Canada! And I just uploaded pics on my profile! Thanks!
Avatar m tn Can you get a deviated septum if you snort pain pills? Like hydrocodiene, percs, norcos.?
Avatar m tn I understand your suffering, but think I am getting off easy. I do not have a deviated septum (as far as I know - just sticking my finger in my left then right nostril I can say they feel about the same size-wise, but I can't reach very far before hitting the "top", maybe up to my first knuckle on my small finger, just comparing measurement techniques in case it tells us something).
Avatar f tn I had a cousin who had the surgery and he did say it improved his breathing immensely. I know I have rhinitis. But, I do believe I have a combination of other things that are preventing me from breathing properly. Excess mucus, phlegm...coughing..Thanks again, would be awesome to see if the surgery would help a bit.
Avatar f tn CSF is Cerebrospinal Fluid. If the nurse swabbed you up to your deviated septum, then it could be either two things. It could be a CSF leak or an infection of your deviated septum. Most likely it is an infection caused by the nurse shoving that swab deep up in there, going into your deviated septum, and ripped open a blood vessel. All you can do is take some antibiotics, or see a ENT doctor for further analysis.
4556201 tn?1356445652 You will get a better cosmetic result from a plastic surgeon, but maybe the ENT would cost less. Just have the bump fixed at the same time as the deviated septum is fixed. It is a common procedure.
Avatar f tn Hello, I wanted to know the risksof having a deviated septum fixed. I had this problem for over 10 years and it seems to keep coming back. I had it fix twice before. I am noticing that the cartilage in my nose seems less so I am concerned. I don't want to have to keep getting surgery to correct my deviated septum. Is there any other options (besides nose sprays)?
Avatar f tn Hi. I just joined this forum. I have a "prominent" deviated septum (per my CT scan) and I have a hard time breathing through my left nostril. I've never been able to breath through it 100%. I'm trying to schedule an appt with an ENT as soon as my PCP decides to give me my referral.... =). I'm hoping they will be able to help me because always have to have a bottle of Afrin. I know, I know....bad bad bad. Anyway, I'm just wondering if you ever had surgery to fix it.
Avatar f tn You must get an allergy test done, either a skin test or RAST, to know what you are allergic to. Once you know what you are allergic to, avoiding that will bring relief to your symptoms. Hope this helps. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar n tn wondering if anyone else has had similar issues and did it turn out to be the deviated septum and not a food or inhalant allergy?
Avatar m tn My dietary advice still stands, but there is nothing about the diet that can fix a deviated septum. If the deviated septum is preventing you from breathing properly during sleep, then I think you should do what you need to do to get it fixed. Then you can ALSO address systemic inflammation, if you are still having symptoms. Again, best of luck.
1452978 tn?1285110262 t know if you had surgery yet... but if you did how long till your dizzy, and lightheartedness went away..
Avatar f tn Thank you for your reply. Hum.love the visual image of that one LOL! But the rest didn't sound too bad. Would love to be able to breath, and not bend over & drip on everything!
Avatar m tn I have been having chronic problems with post nasal drip and pressure on the bridge of my nose. It's not terribly bothersome, rather annoying. Let me explain what I mean by post nasal drip. I feel like there is constantly mucus stuck in the back of my nose. It isn't really dripping down my throat, rather just sitting in the back of my nose. It feels thick and I often have to snort in order to get it out. It is not discolored, just clear/milky white.
Avatar n tn So I went to the ENT today and had them stick that scope up my nose and apparently I have a pretty bad deviated septum ... he gave me a script for a nasal spray and an antibiotic but I'm not sure what the antibiotic is for, I don't like taking antibiotics if I don't have to so I'm hesitant to take that. He mentioned surgery but for the possible future ... I'm hoping the nasal spray will help the allergies and the post nasal drip ...
Avatar f tn t think you have a deviated septum yet, you would bleed, you would get big scabs for awhile and when mine happened it was messy. i have to admit, my nose has improved so much, but that hole is still there, not a huge problem, i stopped in time i guess.
1387175 tn?1326400997 I went through that with my father and two trips to the ER. It was horrible. He did have a deviated septum and was taking aspirin. The last visit, the ER doc actually had to do a cauterization. He also used to use a nasal spray daily and that may have aggravated the condition Has your mother seen an ENT doctor? If not, I suggest she do so.
Avatar n tn have you really. what do they do, put in a plug?
Avatar f tn com/prozac-side-effects-drug-center.htm) If you have not been on for long, you could still be balancing out in the transient phase of the medication. What dose do you take?
Avatar f tn The only reasons to fix your deviated septum would be 1) you are finding it difficult to breathe through your nose 2) you have sleep apnea and fixing your septum may help with CPAP compliance 3) you are having severe, difficult to treat nosebleeds 4) you are looking for cosmetic rhinoplasty (of which a septoplasty may be a part). It is shameful if anyone is trying to frighten you into having this surgery.
