If the nurse swabbed you up to your deviated septum, then it could be either two things. It could be a CSF leak or an infection of your deviated septum. Most likely it is an infection caused by the nurse shoving that swab deep up in there, going into your deviated septum, and ripped open a blood vessel. All you can do is take some antibiotics, or see a ENT doctor for further analysis.
So I went to the ENT today and had them stick that scope up my nose and apparently I have a pretty bad deviated septum ... he gave me a script for a nasal spray and an antibiotic but I'm not sure what the antibiotic is for, I don't like taking antibiotics if I don't have to so I'm hesitant to take that.
He mentioned surgery but for the possible future ...
I'm hoping the nasal spray will help the allergies and the post nasal drip ...

Would like to have the real scoop from real people who have had this done. I'm not looking to beautify my nose, just be able to breath thru it, not snore, and not constantly blowing it. Hello, I wanted to know the risksof having a deviated septum fixed. I had this problem for over 10 years and it seems to keep coming back. I had it fix twice before. I am noticing that the cartilage in my nose seems less so I am concerned. I don't want to have to keep getting surgery to correct my deviated septum. Is there any other options (besides nose sprays)?

I have noticed that the sit of my nose where my deviated septum had been seems to still be significantly inflamed and that the generalized area around where the maxillary sinus would be hurts as well. Perhaps the most annoying, is the fact that my upper left molars kill. is this likely just residual inflammation from the surgery itself? i do know there was a good amount of infection in the left maxillary prior to my surgery, so wondering if this is just aggravated by the surgery.
I saw my ENT doctor this morning and she showed the result of CT scan. Indeed I have Deviated Septum and she suggests me to be operated. This Deviated Septum explains excessive mucus in my throat. However, I am still wandering if it causes some bloody mucus in my throat in the morning. For that I worry about my lungs.
Hi, welcome to the forum, the most common cause for sinusitis is Deviated nasal septum (DNS). This condition leads to obstruction and breathing difficulty. This can lead to sinus infection, ear infection and headaches.
Other possibilities are laryngeal web, asthma, any structural abnormalities in the nasal passage such as nasal polyps, hypertrophied turbinates etc.
You need to undergo detailed examination of nose and radiography of the sinuses to rule out existing sinusitis.

All my life (or as far back as I remember) I've been anomsmic - I can't smell.
An ENT sent me for a MRI which revealed that I have a deviated septum (although it's not visible when you look at my face). The ENT's response was that "it could" be this deviated septum that is causing the anosmia. "Could..." He wouldn't commit to a definite answer. But he was willing to perform surgery anyway!
m not sure if thats really the issue. I did go to a doctor and he said I have a deviated Septum, and this may be whats causing the odor. However I hardly ever have trouble breathing, again unless I'm sick, i do snore but it does not keep me up at night.
My questions are:
Is this true? Could a deviated septum be the cause of this odor?
Will corrective surgery help? Is it the only option?
I'm going for a second opinion today and will post once I hear the results.
Might want to get an opinion from a ear, nose and throat doctor to see if breaking your nose has damaged your nose. It might have changed the deviated septum to a point that something should be done to fix it.
