Deviated septum and tonsils

Common Questions and Answers about Deviated septum and tonsils

Are these even symptoms of a deviated septum? I haven't yet seen a doctor and am wondering if it is even necessary. I'm kind of used to it, but it would be nice to have a solution. Other pertinent information: I had my tonsils removed about 4 years ago due to frequent sore throats. I remember coughing up those disgusting, smelly tonsil stones quite frequently. I did hit the bridge of my nose a few months ago with a car door.
I always bumped my nose or face and never felt anything, but I may be a rare breed! ;) My sister had just the deviated septum repair and she complained of pain. But she freaks out over a paper-cut! LOL She took it easy for a week, but she did not have packing. If you have packing, that is a bit more painful. Expect to have foods that are non- acidic and not peppery. I'm not sure why that bothered her so much. She also stuck with soups. No bending for a while.
( I have a mostly one side stuffed nostril, alot of mucus going down in the throat which results in coughing and a sore throat. I have been to an ear, nose and throat specialist. He said my septum was slightly deviated and my tonsils a little big. I have been to an ear, nose and throat specialist 3 times. Which resulted in two turbinates reductons, which didn't last, and now I am on a cortisone nose spray called Avamys. It doesn't work!
The first ball we got didn't bother us at all, but the second one burned almost every line we did and the drips into the backs of our throats were like acid and both of us have sore throats and tonsils, and the tops of our mouths are incredibly sensitive. I haven't been able to breath comfortably out of my left nostril since and it's almost always running, thin watery snot that i can't even sniff back.
I'm pretty certain i'm not allergic to anything. I also wanted to ask if I have a deviated septum or not, the septum of my nose feels curved to the left and my left nostril has trouble breathing in and out, not to mention the stuffy nose makes it even harder. My nose is not crooked though, just the inside feels curved. What can be done about this as well?
I’m a 28 year old male with acute sinusitis and a deviated septum and my sinus cavities are packed with polyps. When I was younger I had an allergy test done, and I was allergic to a few things, 20 years later, same test I was so allergic to everything they put on me that they had to stop because I swelled up so much. I don’t understand how that could happen that I could be so allergic to so many things in a few years.
Its affecting my life becuase i can't be active much especially outdoors because the air dries up the back of my throat and it feels like i can't breathe or swallow the heating also dries it up.
Ive had sinus infections since my teens, but much worse in recent years. Ive had 3 surgeries in 4 years to straighten a deviated septum and open drainage (once), and open the duct draining the frontal sinus (twice). I still get infections regularly and basically live on Augmentin. There does seem to be a seasonal component- I'm worst in the spring and fall, but Ive never been tested for allergies.
Her's looked like little hard white balls stuck in her tonsils, and when she picked them out there was a small hole there. He said we have crypts in our tonsils and bacteria and other things can cause it and not to worry. When I saw your post I thought how weird no straight answers to help any of us, so I started looking on line. I found this article that I think is pretty close to it.
These symptoms happen about once every month I have been prescribed Anitbiotics 4 times, the symptoms go away then come back after the Prescribtion is done. I also have a deviated septum and the symptoms seem to start right after i wake up never appear while im awake. I've also had Mono 8 months ago and my lymphnodes have not gone away yet. I had a medium risk HIV exposure but had a 6 months test that came back negative. Also had lymphnod and strep blood test also came back fine.
i had white spots and a sore throat in february, told i had a cold. 2 weeks later i was in the ER with my tonsils swollen together and spitting in a cup. i was put on antibiotics and the white spots went away and my tonsils went down, a little. 3 weeks after that i was back at the dr. with swollen tonsils still and sore throat with white spots again, strep! put on antibiotics. tonsils went down alittle, white spots gone, throat better. 4 weeks after that back at the dr.
I have had sinus issues all of my life and recently things were so bad that I had to have a sinus surgery in order to open my airways more and correct a deviated septum. I have also been battling with digestive disorders to a degree that I was almost labeled as having Chrones or UC but I didn't respond to either treatment.
I had my tonsils removed and deviated septum fixed at the same time and I am 24. If your tonsils are large all of the time as mine were, they are doing you no good...only making you sicker. I will say that for the first couple of days you will have the worst sore throat you EVER had in your life. And to be honest...it hurt me to eat ANYTHING ( including ice cream ) for like 3 days.
After a sleep study my ENT doc says that I have moderate sleep apnea which needs to be addressed. I have used a cpap machine in the past with poor results. This doc wants to take out my tonsils, "shave my palate", and perform a septoplasty to fix the left side of my nose. This sounds like a lot of painful procedures to be done at one time, but he said that he will keep me in the hospital at least one night and up to three if needed.
if they have a deviated septum and if allergy treatment doesn’t work, then we can offer a septoplasty. There is also surgery to reduce the turbinates, which are these wing-like structures on the side of the nose that swell when you have a cold or allergy and there’s one other condition called nasal valve collapse that is frequently undiagnosed. This is a condition where the sidewall nostrils of your nose tend to collapse due to just natural weakening or due to previous surgery.
I went to my doctor and told them of the issue, and they had me go in for a ct scan, which came back normal (minus a deviated septum, but that didn't seem relevant considering everyone in my family has a deviated septum). Now I simply have no idea what to do. The symptoms are the worst in the morning, which made me consider that most of it is due to post nasal drip, but I have taken every medication I could think of (benadryl, sudafed, allegra, nyquil, etc) to try to stop it.
Also, get yourself investigated for sinusitis. Do you have deviated nasal septum? Persistant sore throat may be due to associated sinusitis or ear infection. I hope you are not diabetic?
I am a 40 year old woman with chronic tonsillitis, tonsilliths, and sinusitus since I was young. 2-3 times a year, I get throat infections (which have included strep A, Strep C, and HIB infections). I still have my tonsills. I have had recurrent muscle tension headaches and migraines for the past 20 yrs. I had a hysterectomy/ovary removal in January. Went for 9 months without HRT due to endometriosis. Recently started HRT.
I have had medical issues all of my life it seems. I have had to have a surgery of some type or another every year since 2007 and my tonsils/adnoids were removed in 1988 (age 2) I've been diagnosed with ovarian cysts, acid reflux, IBS, ITP, fibromyalgia (?), POTS (2007), my gallbladder was removed due to an unknown cause of disease- it simply stopped working and no CT MRI or ultrasound showed that- only the HIDA Scan. Appendix was removed with ovarian cyst as well.
s I also have a very narrow nose and deviated septum. I am the tallest female in my family, lol, so I never felt petite, at all!
I've been snorting pills for 6 years now daily and i have a deviated septum from it and now i think i have a hole in my throat or a hole in my tonsils. so yes your health is at risk the pills can burn holes in any part of your body it touches including our ears i have problems with my ears too . so go seek help from an ent. even tho thats where im having problems they dont want to help me until i quit but i cant quit until they do smehting about the massive amount of pain im in.
He told to take antibiotics and it would go away and nothing to worry about deviated septum as most people have it. I didn't feel much problem with sinus infection. But problem is frequent throat infections. After many visits my doctor diagnosed that i have tonsil deposits and he took white coloured structure from throat. He suggested to either get tonsil operated or leave with throat infection due to deposits which is not harmful.
I have sleep apnea. I had the surgery in 2005. I had a deviated septum, my tonsils removed and my uvual taken out all at the same time. It was like getting hit in the face by a big truck. After the surgery, my snoring and apnea went away. I then gained some extra weight and it returned. I was sent for antoher sleep study and was put on a CPAP. I use my CPAP everyday. I could not get any sleep without it.
I went to an ENT and she told me I have a deviated septum and that my tonsils and throat, while it looks red.....isn't nearly as bad as many mouths she sees and if I'm not feeling any pain then I shouldn't worry about it. The problem is I AM worried about it. This redness around my tonsils and blister thing just doesn't look right. It doesn't hurt, but its a little discomforting when I swallow. Could it be post nasal drip that is the cause of this redness around my tonsils?
I'm turning 16 in about 2 months and I have a deviated septum. I don't know to what side it's deviated towards but it alternates. One day I can breathe with the left nostril and not the right, but other days I could breathe with the right and not t the left. This bothers me sometimes and pisses me off because I have to breathe through my mouth( got no tonsils). I was wondering if I could have a septoplasty at this age.
I'm noticing though I tend to get hard things stuck to my tonsils (dried up post nasil drip?) if I take it during the winter and it's dry. I probably need some saline spray or something. Maybe that would help relieve the dryness? I saw my psychologist this Friday. I know he can't do anything, but he thinks it could be a side effect of the Welbutrin. I see my psychiatrist soon and I can ask her about side effects.
Just read your posting from six months ago as I explore why I had a severely deviated septum and it struck a chord. I had septoplasty, sinus surgery and turbinate reduction two years ago and it was the best thing I had done for myself in years. Unfortunately, I did not realize my problem until I was in my early 50s after suffering countless sinus infections while dealing with severe environmental allergies that were all diminishing my quality of life.
Fatigue and shooting pains were the pre diagnosis symptoms. During each round of tx I got more tired, pain kicked up and brain phog came in off the coast (more so anyway). Post tx I went hypothyroid, developed heavy RA symptoms and still have terrible problems with both the pain and fatigue but deal with it by pushing through till I drop.
ive had a soar throat on my left side for about 3 4 months now i cant stand it i cant take it no more ive been to the doctors and a ent i had culture swab test it was normal i had a endoscopy when they stuck the camera in my left nostril it wouldnt go and when they stuck in my right nostril they said everything look normal except there was alot of mucus and my throat was inflamed so they told me the cause of my soar throat was that i had a deviated septum and post nasal drip which is causing a i
