deviated septum and bad breath

I got in to see the ENT dr a week ahead of schedule. I have chronic sinusitis, scars on both ears from past infections, and "fairly severe deviated septum,". He had trouble getting the scope up my nose, had to go to a smaller one. He put me on a "push" of prednisone, antibiotics, and Nasonex. Also scheduled a CT scan of sinus's in a month to see if infection is gone. Then he said we would decide what to do. My sx were a constant drippy nose, pressure in ears, headaches.

You should see an ENT surgeron to determine how bad the deviated septum is and how you can fix it (normally an easy day surgery - I took a week off of work from it but I was fine after 5 days - however mine was not bad enough to need to break my nose which would increase the recovery time).

My dietary advice still stands, but there is nothing about the diet that can fix a deviated septum. If the deviated septum is preventing you from breathing properly during sleep, then I think you should do what you need to do to get it fixed. Then you can ALSO address systemic inflammation, if you are still having symptoms. Again, best of luck.

However, the problem persists in varying degrees. I have a deviated septum and persistent rhinitis. Any advice would be welcome.

I've been diagnost with a deviated septum and excercised induced astma and was wondering if any one had septum fixed? Would it help with sinus infections and breathing for asthma? Any deviated septum repair stories out there?

ve been snorting pills for 6 years now daily and i have a deviated septum from it and now i think i have a hole in my throat or a hole in my tonsils. so yes your health is at risk the pills can burn holes in any part of your body it touches including our ears i have problems with my ears too . so go seek help from an ent. even tho thats where im having problems they dont want to help me until i quit but i cant quit until they do smehting about the massive amount of pain im in.

Just read your posting from six months ago as I explore why I had a severely deviated septum and it struck a chord. I had septoplasty, sinus surgery and turbinate reduction two years ago and it was the best thing I had done for myself in years. Unfortunately, I did not realize my problem until I was in my early 50s after suffering countless sinus infections while dealing with severe environmental allergies that were all diminishing my quality of life.

I was diagnosed with a deviated septum and was told by my ENT specialist that i need a surgery ( September 8th, 2008) along with turbinate reduction. I was doing alright until I had a bout of flu four weeks ago and this made my life miserable. Then came along bronchitis which made my breathing through the mouth impossible. I am still having a little wheezing on my left chest and took an x-ray yesterday. I will have an answer within two days to see what the actual diagnosis will be.

Recently, I have noticed that my teeth really seem to have an odor. I notice it when I floss and also during the day even after I have recently brushed my teeth. If I rub a finger on my teeth and smell it, it has a strong odor. I don't know if the odor is bad breath (and no one is telling me the truth) or if i have a weird thing growing on my teeth/gums.

A deviated septum can also make it difficult to breath through your nose and you can have bad snoring at night. I guess it depends on how much your quality of life is affected, as to whether you want to go through with the surgery.

In a way it feels like im constantly holding my breath. I have sever head congestion.

I'am planning to have sinus surgery (septopasty) to correct a deviated septum and deciding between surgeons. One of the surgeons attaches splints with breathing tubes to each side of the repaired septum, the other surgeon just stitches the 2 sides of the septum together in a procedure called "quilting".

Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. In Elementary school, I fractured my nose pretty bad. Then in my early teens, I realized I had a 'bump' on the bridge, & a deviated septum. The 'bump' is caused by 2 super sharp bones sticking out. (It's so extreme/sharp that family & friends I let touch it were *all* really shocked by it, & assured me it was*not* normal.

I hope the title doesn't seem too silly, but yes, I haven't been able to find a slow breathing technique that works for me in the last 2 years. I can't breathe through my nose really well, deviated septum. ENT's told me to fix my anxiety before contemplating any surgery. And then I clench because I have TMJ, that is a work in progress. I breathe abdominally but I constantly feel jammed up around the neck and mouth.

So I went to the ENT today and had them stick that scope up my nose and apparently I have a pretty bad deviated septum ... he gave me a script for a nasal spray and an antibiotic but I'm not sure what the antibiotic is for, I don't like taking antibiotics if I don't have to so I'm hesitant to take that. He mentioned surgery but for the possible future ... I'm hoping the nasal spray will help the allergies and the post nasal drip ...

I had a big briuse for awahile-this could have caused the deviated septum and the nose thing could be completely seperate from everything else-I could just have noticed it because I'm so nervous and aware of everything going on in mybody-

Hi, its unlikely that a deviated septum can cause dizziness. Deviated septum can cause problems with breathing, as it causes nasal blockage. Your symptoms of dizziness and lightheadedness, if are relieved by eating something, indicate that you might be having episodes of hypoglycemia. Inadequate sleep can also cause tiredness, fatigue and dizziness. Other causes for these symptoms are inner ear infections; brain disorders heart problems, fever, stress, low blood pressure and anxiety.

Having that said you do have sinus disease in one sinus cavity, but not a massive amount. You had stated you have a deviated septum and those are things to just ignore and wish it away. With the Sinuse Surgery the doctor would be able to correct this problem along with a good clean out of all sinus cavities. I believe you would a great amount of releif after a sinus surgery. I know I was amazed at how well I could breath and that I didn't have chronic sinus pain all day.

d recommend the septoplasty, as a deviated septum can cause drainage problems as well as breathing problems, and a sinus flush would get more risky as you get older. However, based on the many stories I've seen here, including worst-case scenarios like irishghost, I would resist anybody messing with my turbinates.

For temporary relief, since your septum is deviated to the left, you can lie in bed on your right side and if you notice after 5 min your septum will fall towards the right giving you more breathing room on the left. The question on whether or not you will need to go through the operation would be best suited for your doctor to advise you on.
