Avatar n tn My father had a brain tumor removed and now has to take a nasal spray called Desmopressin. His endocranologist only wants him to use it one time a day, but the problem is he goes to the bathroom sometimes every 15 minutes!!!! He is also on 1/2 mg of Dexamethasone and that's part of the problem. Sometimes he takes two puffs a day but the doctor doesn't want him to do that daily.
Avatar n tn You can ask your vet to prescribe an antibiotic like cephalexin and an antifungal like fluconazole both which can be called into a walmart in your area and they are on the $4 generic list so it keeps cost down. As for itching they can have antihistamines WITHOUT DECONGESTANTS in them.
Avatar f tn s previous medical records that I like to have titers ran first, before I vaccinate my dogs for other diseases. He told me that I was wise and explained to me that, because of the research and his own personal testing on this, he has started to recommend to patients to check their pet's titer first to make sure that they don't need an unnecessary vaccination. I can only tell you that every time I've done this, my pet's titers were always within normal range.
Avatar f tn t mention in your question what medication you were taking. Commonly central DI is treated with desmopressin. Desmopressin works by limiting the amount of water passed in the urine. I don't know why you would suddenly notice a decrease in your symptoms after 34 years. I would recommend making an appointment with your regular doctor to see what might be causing this. Until you can be seen, it is important that you remain aware of your fluid intake and output.
Avatar n tn Hello, I am 20 years old female and I wet my bed (urinate) at night sometimes. Can you suggest any logical explanation for this problem? I do not have any other health problems.
Avatar m tn I have gotten my dog cold laser therapy for her allergies and auto immune disease. I've also seen it done on dogs for hip dysplasia and arthritis, epilepsy, other allergy dogs, and on dogs post surgery to speed up healing. On every other dog that I either witnessed personally or read the testimonies of (which were about 20 in all) it worked moderate to very well. In my dog, it did not work. She had 4 weeks of treatment. I felt the laser myself and it feels like nothing at all.
97615 tn?1212678589 I would drive as far as needed to get the RIGHT home for any of my rescues. It was well worth it. There was a cost (I had no control over that part). I was the one that went to the Animal Control and had to choose which ones would not die that day. I took them home and had ALL spayed and neutered, all shots and treatments (if needed) were all given. They all got homes that I would have loved to have lived in myself. I had 13 cats, kittens, puppies and dogs all at one time. ALL BY MYSELF.
612551 tn?1450022175 Thanks, seems to be the going rate then. I am about 50 miles from NYC, so not directly influenced by those prices. I am in a rural, but somewhat affluent community. The price range I got was $348 to 380, the variable for any needed follow up antibiotics. My vet is very good about itemizing the offer: Fluid IV at $44 and Inhalant anesthesia at $84 X-rays, 2 views at $55 and the work itself at $125...
Avatar m tn We have a 7 year old colllie just diagnosed with Diabetes Insipetes (nephrogenic). Vet recommends treatment with ddavp eye drop. All the information we can find says that this is "very expensive". Can you give us a ballpark of what this actually means for annual cost of care? What are the implications of leaving this untreated if she has on going access to fresh clean water?
Avatar n tn today the consultant gave me tablets called desmopressin acetate. i understand they reduce urine amounts. will try but cant see them working well. Any new ideas or anyone with same prob please help.
6669309 tn?1462648142 Yes all dogs love to stop and sniff! But look on the bright side...it's not as bad as walking a CAT!! lol! Tony's idea of having Rusty beside you more as you walk, and keeping the movement going -is quite a good one. That doesn't mean he gets no 'sniff and mark' time, but just that you get moving more, I think. Are there any woods, fields, large grassy areas where he can play frisbee or fetch games? Would he come back to you immediately if whistled or called?
1500294 tn?1290272209 t afford that, as vet bills cost a fortune, i recommend you buy Plaqueoff and/or some other dental products for dogs, such has dental bones, biscuits etc - which you can usually get hold of, in your local pet store or super market.
436837 tn?1293793226 Almost not cancerous for sure, but if we wanted to remove it for cosmetic reasons, or if she keeps scratching at it, would cost like $800-$900. I'm going to have to give that tree oil a shot.
Avatar m tn Dialysis for dogs has been available for about 10yrs. The cost is often prohibitive for most people, being around £25,000 for the initial treatment alone. Kidney transplants are also now available for dogs, though their success is not guaranteed - and in fact they are far less successful than in cats having the same operation. It may be difficult to find a canine medical centre able to offer this unusual treatment, but they are out there if you do your research.
Avatar m tn Is there a medication for Diabetes Insipidus other than Desmopressin? The headaches as a side affect are dibilitating. This discussion is related to peuatrygland diabetts.
2186126 tn?1384957426 Sounds like your vet is high. It cost me $275.00 for the first test. $65.00 for 30 count 10mg of Vetoryl capsules. The second testing cost me $275.00. They have to do a second test to make sure meds are not to high or low. The difference the Vetoryl made is unreal. She was drinking 4, 64oz bowls of water a day. Going out all day and all night to relieve herself. Panting, starved all the time. Whining. She was miserable and so was I. My Miniature Schnauzer is 6 years old. 90 days in now....
Avatar m tn They sell something called a snuggle sack which is basically a sleeping bag for dogs. Maybe your dog would benefit from having one of those to burrow in while you're away at work. I'd just make sure there's a nice, cushy spot (a pile of blankets or a dog bed) so he's not lying directly on a cold floor while you're gone. Will he/she tolerate wearing sweaters? They also have boots for pets but I could never convice my dogs to wear them.
82861 tn?1333453911 Food. You can't get away with feeding the cheapest food you can find because your pet is "just a dog." You won't have a healthy dog if basic nutrition requirements are not met. A dog who isn't in good health is far more likely to get sick and cost you a heck of a lot more in vet bills down the line. Take a look a dog food prices and read labels before you adopt. Get a general idea of how much money will need to be spent on a weekly or monthly basis.
Avatar n tn You seem very knowledgeable! Thanks for sharing!! Hope you come back to help us here on the MedHelp Dogs forum!
1972798 tn?1355549267 By the way, I'm a dog person, absolutely love them and spoil mine like crazy, I'm just trying to answer you from a practical standpoint. Although I can rarely resist a cute one, I definitely wouldn't take a new one on right now.
Avatar n tn Good thing you didn't take no for an answer, you saved your dogs life, and I'm sure you'll be repaid by him in his own way for years to come.
