Avatar f tn Your best bet might be to call a local compounding pharmacy and ask for names of any doctors who sends them prescriptions for desiccated type thyroid med. Good luck in your search. Please let us know if you are successful or not.
Avatar f tn Are you looking for a thyroid med that can be used as a replacement for desiccated thyroid med, or a source for it?
Avatar n tn can a child (10 years old) about 90 lbs take desiccated thyroid hormone to help boost his T4? Thyroid functions borderline...but has all the symptoms of hypothyroid. dry skin, listless, puffiness under eyes, periodic problems with concentration, fidity, etc. He also has been tested for allergies and has none.
Avatar f tn I started on desiccated thyroid about six months ago. My doc has given me leeway to adjust the dose myself (within reason of course). Started with 1 grain Naturethroid and worked my way up to 3 grains when I finally noticed my symptoms were improved. But the relief only lasted about three weeks. I have been increasing my dose by a half grain every month or so and each time I have a "honeymoon period" then start feeling bad again after a few weeks. I'm up to 4.
Avatar f tn It takes 4-6 weeks for the T4 component in desiccated to reach its potential in your blood. Taking thyroid meds is not like taking an antibiotic that makes you feel well in short order. Thyroid meds require time and patience. They have to build up in your blood. Also, if you've racked up an array of hypo symptoms, it can take your body time to heal, even once your FT3 and FT4 levels are good. T4 is a kind of "storage" form of the thyroid hormones.
Avatar n tn Desiccated thyroid, thyroid extract, desiccated thyroid extract = same thing.
Avatar m tn Do you maybe know if it is available in South Africa or is there maybe alternative Natural desiccated thyroid products available in South Africa that you know of?
Avatar f tn Endo prescribed synthroid. I went even more hyper, this showed in test. Stopped synthroid, started desiccated thyroid. Health did a 180, but still not feeling well. My dr at first didn't believe my illness had anything to do with thyroid, she sent me to mental health, who ordered more thyroid testing. Does anyone have any experience with iodine induced thyroid disorders. I've been unwell for months and just want to get better.
Avatar f tn My daughter was born without a thyroid gland. We are now using Canadian Erfa desiccated thyroid and doing well. It is like Armour's old (good) formula, before reformulation. If you decide to go with desiccated-then you should talk to the N.P. about writting a script for it. If he agrees it can be mailed within 14 days and is legal to do so. Just make sure you get in contact with us on who to use-so that you get Erfa thyroid and not something else.
Avatar f tn will be willing to testify to the FDA on this form that they are signing off on natural desiccated thyroid importation for investigational purposes. You might actually have better success with one of the Canadian pharmacies that fill U.S. prescriptions by mail-order. But if you have tried this method to get a prescription filled and it has worked for you, please post in the comments and share your experience.
393685 tn?1425812522 I think I would appeal that one. Usually, the only time a med is not paid by insurance is when it becomes "over-the-counter". Like Zyrtec for allergies. I know someone who had a heart attack and was life flighted to the nearest hospital for by-pass. His insurance refused the $40K claim because it was not a network facility. The network hospital has no cardiac care. He won the appeal, but it was a fight to the finish.
Avatar m tn Barnes book about 30 years ago and started taking desiccated thyroid. I have at times been up to 2 1/2 grains a day. When I first get on desiccated thyroid I always get a nice lift in mood and energy (especially mental energy) and my basal temp. will raise a little; maybe up to 97, but it will only last for a week or two and back to my old physical and mental sluggishness and low grade depression and my temp. will always drop back to the high 95's to low 96's.
Avatar f tn I have been on Eltroxin and subsequently Thyronorm for the last 17 years. After finding out about dessicated thyroid and its benefits versus the synthetic thyroxine only treatment I have tried different endocrinologists to help me cope better as most of my symptoms over the years were treated or explained away as separate complaints completely unrelated to my longstanding hypothyroidism.
Avatar f tn I have no other diseases or conditions according to recent extensive testing. I took pig thyroid for 9 years, but last June 2014 switched to a combo of 125 mcg levothyroxine and 5 mcg of liothyronine daily, because I was allergic to the pig thyroid. Since I stopped taking the pig thyroid I developed depression, and my chronic fatigue has worsened. I read on the NIH web site that T3-only therapy of up to 50 mcg daily has helped alleviate depression and fatigue for Hashimoto's patients.
393685 tn?1425812522 After the numerous calls I made all over the place - regardless of even IF a cease of drugs was done. There are still plenty of options for desiccated thyroid patients to be able to get their meds. I stand behind what I found out today!
Avatar f tn FT4 is below range, and the rule of thumb for FT4 is midrange. However, due to the high T3 content in desiccated, that can be hard to achieve without FT3 going too high. FT3 is only 37.5% of range, and the rule of thumb here is upper half to upper third of range. Once again, due to the high T3 content in desiccated, FT3 often runs on the high side. TSH looks good. However, on desiccated, TSH is often suppressed, so it's probably not as good as it seems on first glance.
Avatar m tn I soon got sick of being sick, so did some research and discovered the growing trend towards Desiccated Thyroid. I wanted to try it so went through several doctors who refused to prescribe it until I found a great one who did. I was prescribed 50mg of Desiccated Thyroid and my health improved within the first week significantly, but not 100%. I'm still waiting for preliminary test results to see how my body is reacting to this.
Avatar n tn E-mail addresses are "blanked" out when posted on the forum. Unfortunately, Total T3 and Total T4 are considered obsolete and really don't tell us much. You should ask your doctor to test that active hormones, Free T3 and Free T4... That said, both your TT3 and TT4 are low in their ranges, while your TSH is quite a bit higher than normal. These labs indicate that you have hypothyroidism and will need to take replacement hormones.
Avatar f tn FT3, FT4 and TSH should be tested EVERY time labs are run for anyone on thyroid meds for any reason. There is no way to determine appropriate treatment using TSH alone. If they both have hypo symptoms, they should both be tested for FT3, FT4 and TSH. With those, we can make suggestions about what they should discuss with their doctor(s). Sometimes, a simple increase in T4 will do the trick; sometimes a little bit of added T3 will help, and sometimes desiccated is in order.
Avatar m tn Recommdations for thyroid dr. On south side of Atlanta Ga? Also is it better to take synthroid or desiccated thyroid hormone for hashi. Age 55 male. Not sure if family doc is expert on thyroid don't want wrong meds I feel good now don't want to mess that up.
Avatar f tn Again with no free T3 lab to look at - no one can no for sure. Many desiccated thyroid patients develop vertigo with increases and that can sometimes subside within two weeks after taking the increase in medication. Have you given the increase a while ( 2 weeks) to see if this vertigo continues? The other symptoms of hot flashes could also be associated with the increase and decrease of meds and not allowing the body to adjust to the hormone. On your thought with switching your meds....
Avatar f tn As I read your comments, my first thought was "golly, she's really hypo"... Then when I got to the results, my thought was confirmed... I think. What are the reference ranges for the FT3 and FT4? Ranges vary lab to lab and have to come from your own report. That said, if your ranges are anywhere near what we normally, see, your FT levels are anything BUT perfect, since both are on/near the floor of the ranges. You pcp had the right idea, starting you on the levo.

646105 tn?1223653476 Twas a typo....I should have typed desiccated thyroid not liver. I feed the dogs desiccated liver as training bits...so a track got crossed somewhere. I have done some additional research and have started on D3, selenium and eating sea weed. Also started on the autoimmune paleo diet and that seemed to lift the brain fog within a couple of days.
464790 tn?1255369345 Hello , does anyone knows about Nutri-Meds™ Whole Desiccated Porcine Thyroid Concentrate capsules. 130 mg. Has anyone tryed them I heard that it is close to Armour. Do you have any Idea???? Has anyone tryed them I heard that it is close to Armour.
Avatar f tn 5 years ago I was put on desiccated thyroid after having horrible symptoms for 6-7 months (desiccated thyroid is the only thyroid medication I've ever been on). My doctor would check my values and up my medication every few months until eventually it seemed to stabilize 8 months later. 6 months after that my thyroid went out of whack again and my dose had to be upped. My levels were stable for about 6-7 months and then went hypo again. Does this ever stop?
Avatar m tn Hi, was wondering if anyone knew the equivalance of 162 Synthoid to NP thyroid ? Synthroid or elevated T3 is causing my nervous condition. Past few day's, upon waking I'm fine, I take synthroid approx 2 hours later, the nervous condition kicks in. I've taken Synthroid for past 9 months, no problems till approx 3 weeks ago. Trying to figure out what's causing jittery conditon. My whole body constantly shaking, after a few hours calms down, I get headache, then exhausted.
