Avatar m tn I have suffered from anxiety and depression for a long time, and I've never felt any stigma from getting help. You have to always do what's going to benefit your children. Your children deserve a health and happy parent. It's hard to be the best parent we can be when fighting these illnesses, which is yet another reason to get help.

Avatar n tn Our child was on Prozac for a year when she was six years old - she sufferd from severe anxiety and depression. We had major issues with the Prozac. Her doctor placed her on Effexor for two-three years with moderate success but some side effects as sweating and poor sleep issues. She now takes a very low dose of Celexa and is doing well. If it were me, I think I might choose point (3) with one of the newer SSRI's (they tend to have fewer side effects).
Avatar f tn m new to the forum, going to start a 6 month Interferon and Rib treatment in one month, is the treatment really horrible, I have read some really unpleasant stories of this treatment and its side effects, is there any nice stories in relation to this or am I doomed to depression, anaemia and ribrage, looooollll.
Avatar m tn Although there is still no complete cure for hepatitis B, there are 7 approved drugs for adults (2 for children) and many promising new drugs in development. Current treatments seem to be most effective in those who show signs of active liver disease Not every person with chronic hepatitis B needs to be on medication. You should talk to your doctor about whether you are a good candidate for drug therapy or a clinical trial.
5864500 tn?1380889597 Hello and welcome! It sounds like you've been at this for a long time. There are different kinds of depression, but I think what you're talking about is clinical or chronic depression. Unfortunately. most people diagnosed with clinical depression are kind of stuck with it. That doesn't mean it cannot be managed and treated however. Like you said, it's kind of like diabetes or hypertension...

Avatar f tn Julie, it is normal to feel confused, scared, and depressed after being diagnosed with Hep C. We have all gone through it. I remember when I was first diagnosed, I would get depressed even reading about Hep C, but then I had to get myself straightened out and realize, that it can be a serious condition, but the odds are against it. You need to get all the information you can -- remember, knowledge is power. You also need to go to a good hepatologist and talk to him or her about this virus.
663386 tn?1283642868 One of the hepatologists that I am seeing with long standing experience indicated that he more typically sees depression late in treatment rather than at the beginning of treatment. The bad news for me however was that depression can continue for up to 6 months or more beyond the end of treatment. I have four weeks of treatment left.
Avatar m tn But maybe you can invite him for dinner with a trusted member of his treatment team. Or you can take your family to him and offer to cook him dinner wherever he is staying. I wouldn't give him free reign to make the rules as it sends him a mixed message that he is ok to make those decisions despite being ill. Which is not the message he needs to hear.
Avatar f tn Hi I am a psychology student taking a break from studies at the moment recently I was told of a five year old child who tried to commit suicide with a knife now that child has been diagnosed with depression I am aware of children verbally expressing a desire to commit suicide for different reasons but I cant understand how or why a five year old would actually do it and with a knife...is it depression only or is there something else.....?
Avatar n tn Another thing I want you to know, you have just took your first step to help yourself and your children. You asked for advise. That takes a lot of courage. Be proud of yourself I sure am proud of you! Keep all of us posted... we care. Thank You for allowing me to help.
Avatar m tn I knew I needed treatment for years and years. Being suicidal is not normal. I knew that. Hating yourself passionately is not normal, either. I wasn't a cutter or anything, but I had other problems. I always felt abnormal and unloved. I would reach out for people trying to get someone to help me and usually I was rejected. I had no idea how to get help by myself. I kept trying and trying to fix myself but nothing would work.
Avatar f tn Parental depression takes a heavy toll on children because the depressed parents is emotionally unavailable to the child and the child longs for the parental presence and nurturing. Try not to take this personally. The focus should not be on what the teachers might think about whether your son likes you or not. That is not the point you should be paying attention to. And it's not that your son does not like you in any case. Of course he likes you.
Avatar f tn I am sixteen years old and I have heard that a lot of depression medications can cause suicidal side effects. So,my question is,Are there any medications that have a low suicide side effect rate?
Avatar m tn Oh, I'm sorry for her. Depression is difficult. Encourage her to seek full treatment for it and hope for the best.
