Common Questions and Answers about Depression test to take to doctor

depression

560272 tn?1311350293 I've had anxiety and depression for 10 yrs. But what I am so frustrated at is, how do I know when to go to the doctor? I mean, I'd be going weekly due to the anxiety and obsessing that I have something wrong with me constantly. Obviously I can't go weekly.....but when will I know to go? Or that "it's only anxiety". I used to go once a year and got tired of hearing that all tests are normal and it's just anxiety.......which never made me feel less worried.
Avatar f tn Hi, I recently posted a question titled "Help! I can't take it anymore!", I got a few supportive answers, which I appreciate ALOT!, but now Im having problems with my parents. Its not that they don't want to take me to the doctor, its that they refuse to believe anything "abnormal" (AKA: never heard of/seen of) before is wrong with me! Each day is hard just doing chores, but then adding the school play, and homework makes it even harder!
Avatar f tn If your pregnant i would research some anti-depression meds because some are really not good to take and have been proved to cause birthh defects. I have been in counseling for about a year now. a lot of ppl say ot doesn't help, but its about finding the right match for you. i adore my counselor she's been a hero in my eyes. You can ask you doctor to be refered to a specific agency. Idk if this is helpful but don't hold back talk to ur doctor they can help.
Avatar m tn It was taking a dosage of Effexor which gave me my first flamingly manic episode and caused me to be rediagnosed from severe depression to BP. I'd be very interested to know how Abilify works for you - if you remember to keep in touch after a few months (don't remember how long it takes to fully kick in) and let us know how it has gone. Good luck!
Avatar n tn most of the informed people here tend to think that HIV is really hard to acquire let alone with a condom but my doctor would disagree adamantly. I am too scared to do anything, would not even call my GF. This is ruining me.
Avatar f tn Sounds like depression. Many people who have depression feel they want to end it. You must tell the doctor this. It does not mean they will lock you away in a mental hospital, it means he knows how you feel and can help. You MUST tell doctor, you really MUST. If it is depression, it is not easy to "snap out of it." You may need medication. As simple as that. Keep in touch with us. Take action now before you feel worse. PLEASE.
Avatar m tn If the doctor suspects you may be suffering from depression, he can give you a questionnaire to fill in to determine whether you are suffering from depression. If all tests are fine, get checked out for parasites and especially tapeworm.
Avatar m tn I like using herbs myself and will share my list below for the anxiety you talk about. Hope it helps...they did...do for me. The herb Valerian root (Valeriana officinalis) is used as a sedative on the nervous system and a relaxant for the muscles (Reader's Digest, 2009, Pp128). It also helps with headaches, which can sometimes be a result of an anxiety attack. According to Mosby's the recommended dosage of Valerian extract is 400-900mg, before bedtime (2010, Pp592).
Avatar f tn Due to being 35 the doctor advised me of the different blood test to determine down syndrome and wanted me to decide what I want to do. I have read about Harmony and MareniT21. Which test did yall do and or recommend.
Avatar m tn Welcome to our Forum. It is unlikely that your partner had HIV but, even if she did, there is no reason for concern. Neither your lack of circumcision nor the wart at the base of your penis will meaningfully change your virtually non-existant risk for HIV. there is no reason for concern and no reason for testing.
Avatar m tn Hello, First of all, I want to know how to post my question to "Ask a Doctor forums for HIV" I tried to find that way but I failed. I had a protected sex with CSW in moscow last Dec. 16. Before I had a bad experience, I was so strong....
250155 tn?1485295939 Are you seeing a psychiatrist or a regular doc? Do you suffer just from anxiety, or is your main problem depression? Have you ever tried therapy? How badly is your problem affecting your life, because if you are doing okay therapy is a better place to start than strong medications. Have you tried other medications, or is this your first try? I'm asking because, first, general docs don't know these meds or these conditions very well.
Avatar f tn Last week I read a letter on this forum someone (sorry I can't remember who it was) had written so we could print it and take it or send it to our Dr's saying what test should be run as well as talking about treating our symptoms instead of just going by the numbers on the test. Someone please tell me where I can find it again so I can print it.
Avatar f tn Hi I was diagnosed with depression in August of last year. I was on antidepressants until around February. I was on citrolopram for many months and on my last I was moved into something that didn't agree with me. Very lightheaded, vomiting. Anyway, my doctor thought it would be best to get it all out of my system and wait for those symptoms to subside until returning. The symptoms stopped.
Avatar n tn The first thing you must do is talk to a doctor, and tell them what you have told us. Depression shows in so many different ways, that only a doctor can diagnose you. Let us know what you decide to do. Remember you can always "talk" to us.
7729616 tn?1393795492 Assuming you like working and your job -- perhaps part of this is you not really wanting to go back to what you were doing. But to the doctor, part of your healing is getting you back to doing what the doctor assumes you want to be doing, which is what you were doing before. Medically, this disease is with you for the rest of your life and you will be having to play with the meds the rest of your life. Hope this works out for you, but don't let it take your life over completely.
Avatar f tn Get out of the house, because staying inside will just fuel your depression. One of the best ways to defeat depression from my own experience was to do activities that occupied my mind. All the best.
520191 tn?1355635402 So, I suggest that you ask your doctor if he is willing to test and adjust Free T3 and Free T4 as necessary to relieve symptoms, without being constrained by resultant TSH levels. Also ask if he is willing to prescribe T3 meds. If either answer is no, then you will have to provide enough info to him to change his mind, or you will need to find a good thyroid doctor who will do both.
1293529 tn?1325184540 Ok, I believe I am Hypothyroid, even Dr. Lupo on the expert Thyroid forum has stated twice that he would put me on a low dose Levo but my doctors all say I am fine. My TSH was 4.12, but my labs normal range is .05-4.5, so they said I am fine. I asked for more testing, got my TSH at 3.65 and negative for Tg antibodies but they forgot to test TPO antibodies like I asked. The FT3 and FT4 all in normal range.
Avatar f tn ve been suffering from terrible insomnia. My doctor told me to take it at night because it may make me sleepy so I was wondering if maybe that might be making it harder for me to sleep. Has anyone noticed it causing less sleeping troubles when taken in the morning as opposed to the evening?
Avatar f tn I have not yet told my mum , but if I was to she would want to take me to see the doctor, I was just wondering would the doctor prescribe me with some sort of anti-depressants, because I don't want to take them , I feel like they will change me , and I will no longer be myself i will be some drugged up happy freak. Please help!
Avatar m tn Prozac is very safe to take. The only thing you need to bear in mind is that different meds affect different people in different ways. Some folks out there HAVE had a very bad experience with Prozac, and some have not. The same could be said for EVERY single med discussed on this forum! I would hope that your doctor talked to you about possible side effects. If not, I would call his office and speak with either him or his RN or PA and get the information you need.
