Common Questions and Answers about Depression symptoms physical pain

depression

Avatar n tn He may not even be suffering from Depression. In most cases (not all) if a person is suffering from Severe Depression, then the symptoms are so God awful horrifing and uncomfortable that they will do almost anything to make it stop. This includes going to see a doctor. In some cases Depression sufferers will suffer in silence and resist treatment. This is usually out of shame about admitting that they have a Mental Illness.
Avatar f tn I'll start by giving some background to the problem I have. I began suffering with symptoms of tiredness and weakness in September 2007. Since then I have suffered from symptoms including nausea and vomiting, intermittant diarrhoea, extreme tiredness (I can sleep up to 16 hours solid), fainting, muscle cramps and stiffness, loss of appetite, itchy skin which comes out in a rash if I scratch, and weight loss which has accelerated over the last few weeks.
Avatar f tn Physical symptoms are common in depression, and, in fact, vague aches and pain are often the presenting symptoms of depression. These symptoms include chronic joint pain, limb pain, back pain, gastrointestinal problems, tiredness, sleep disturbances, psychomotor activity changes, and appetite changes.
Avatar f tn To be honest, you sound like yes, you are having symptoms of depression and anxiety. Covid can have after symptoms but for someone that has had covid twice, I wouldn't go there to think you do. There are other things going on and a history with you that would make me think more mental health. What CAN you do? Well, what about digging into the mental health aspect? A psychologist who does dbt/cbt therapy?
Avatar f tn Most of the time the Physical pain of Depression is ususally geralized as in body aches, Nasea, sick stomach, cramps, and just plain feeling like walking dead, and some other nasty physical symptoms to boot. If you are having acute pain in any particular place then make sure you get that looked at. It may be a warning sign that something physical is wrong. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Ok, I've been reading to get an idea of how long the physical symptoms are going to last. I note it's anywhere from 2-3 days to over 2 weeks. I understand it's different for everyone. Would everyone please share how many days it took them to get at least comfortable physically? Thank you for the suggestions and support already. Just reading the successes, even daily ones, is keeping me going.
Avatar n tn I think depression can be a combination of things - both physical and emotional. I used to get mind blowing headaches, which was partly caused by my depression, and then because I had them, it made me feel emotionally worse. It's a nasty cycle. From what you've described, you've been under a ton of stress, getting married is up there in the stress meter! I know when I've been ill, which I went through recently, it sure made my mood drop.
Avatar m tn There is a strong desire to smoke, but no physical ailments or depression. In fact, rather than being depressed, I am oddly energized and do already feel cleaner and optimistic. Not to minimize the sufferings of anybody having a tougher time than I am, but everyone surely must have a different personal reaction to quitting. Everyone owes it to themselves to see just how managable it might be for them to just STOP. Cold Turkey, No BS. Just do it.
Avatar n tn While Major depressive dissorders can effect the body in many physical ways, I have never heard of "physical Depression" without mental depression. Maybe something I have never heard of before.
Avatar f tn Do you think it could be depression? I had similar physical symptoms, like joint pain and headaches, trouble sleeping and the forgetfulness. The anxiety and feeling unmotivated go hand in hand with depression as well. Most people who are diagnosed with one are diagnosed with the other. Also have you been to see your doc about it? And how long have have symptoms been going on?
Avatar m tn Hello there. We all have different physical symptoms of depression, so not able to tell you that what you are feeling is because of depression. I see you have seen a doctor about the symptoms you describe above. As you say nothing can be found, what do you think could be the problem? If you are on medication, sometimes that can cause strange physical symptoms. If nothing can be found to explain what you are feeling, then perhaps, in your case it could be depression.
323525 tn?1229339047 Hi Steph. If everything is ok physically then there is a very good chance the depression may be causing the pain. I have a lot of the same complaints and my Dr. gave me Cymbalta. It's supposed to help with the depressed feelings and physical pain that may be associated. I haven't really noticed a huge difference on the emotional side, but physically it has helped a little. Good luck, and please take care of yourself.
Avatar m tn You may also need to monitor your progress as far as major depression and anxiety symptoms are concerned. All of your symptoms do not seem to be due to anxiety or medicine side effects. A neurologist's opinion regarding the association between L5-S1 disc bulge and sensory symptoms in the lower limbs will be important. Take care.
Avatar f tn What's important is that pain can set off depression and that depression can worsen a pre-existing neurological disability. I know that with the severe tardive dyskinesia I have and what they are identifying as tardive psychosis, within episodes of tardive akathesia it creates an automonic condition where anything can set me off into a rage and if I supress (not "control" as it is physical) the motor agitation I go into a dissociative state.
Avatar f tn t know the issues I was having was part of of depression as far as loss of interest, fatigue, neck pain, lower back pain and sadness. The stomach pain is completely new to me and It's scary! The pain is right under the breast on the left and move to the right side on and off through out the day. Doctor gave me Zantac for heartburn which is something I've never had but was told that maybe stress can cause an increase in stomach acid.
Avatar f tn I've been having upper abdominal pain for almost 3 months. The pain started right after I took Naproxen 500mg (twice a day) for four days for the joint pain I have in my hands and arms. My PCP thought that the pain was from taking the medicne (= side effects) which probably casued acute gastritis. She prescribed me ranitidin. After I took the medince for a month, the burning pain in my stomach was gone. However, I still had dull pain in the middle, left and right upper abdominal areas.
Avatar f tn I am on day 36 and I will have good days followed by a few days of more physical withdrawal symptoms. Stomach pain, headaches, fatigue, chills...flu like symptoms. I went to the dr and he said that many people have prolonged withdrawal symptoms for over a month but he said that normally you would not be having any good days and that the symptoms would be constant not come and go. That was my addiction dr.
Avatar m tn Hey, so this may be a little long winded but I'll try make it short. Essentially I was diagnosed with depression this week after a period of about 2 months where I have had an MRI scan on my head and 'full' blood work done, to see why I'm feeling like this. Essentially my question is to do with the physical symptoms I've been experiencing and whether they really can be the symptoms of depression, and that the doctors aren't missing something key.
Avatar f tn At the top of the forum index page there are two buttons - Warning signs of Depression and Symptoms of depression. The symptoms page follows the DSM (Diagnostic Statistical Manual) which is what pdocs used to diagnose mental illness. The other one, warning signs, covers DSM symptoms and a few more related signs which may or may not be present, like anxiety, irritability and alcohol use.
Avatar f tn Is there any connection between abdominal discomfort/pain and low vitamin D? I recently had blood work and a ultrasound on my abdomen. I have to wait for my follow-up appointment for my results but I'm curious if aside from muscle pain, back pain, fatige, anxiety, depression. It also causes diffuse abdominal pain.
Avatar m tn I have been drained by HIV phobia and constantly having heart palpitations, chest pain, muscle ache, constant fatigue, Irritable bowel symptoms, even my armpit is pain sometimes. I also have loss of appetite... less sex drive. I know that many websites state these are all anxiety/ depression symptoms. but do you really experience them?
