Avatar n tn I'm am MS patient on venlafaxine (Effexor) and at least in Europe, there is no generic available, but loads in the States. https://en.wikipedia.
Avatar m tn i'm posting a question asking for your medical advice as i've suffered from long term depression since i was 18 as i'm now 38 going through various medication regimes throughout that time. I've previously been on mostly SSRI's ie prozac and seroxat, with in addition dosuphin and amtitrypline. Prozac and seroxat worked well with me for some time until they "pooped out" on me.
Avatar n tn t leave AD medication is simply because there is no cure for Clinical Depression and if properly diagnosed then people need to stay on AD maintenence medication for life. To stop medication (If you really have a depressive dissorder) will only result in the Depression returning. I think the main problem is that AD medication is WAY over prescribed now days. Often these medications are prescribed to people that have good reason to be down and depressed.
Avatar m tn It may take 6 to 8 weeks or longer for you to feel the full benefit of this medication. Continue to take venlafaxine even if you feel well. Do not stop taking venlafaxine without talking to your doctor. Your doctor will probably decrease your dose gradually.
Avatar f tn I had been on Venlafaxine for a number of years. First, at 75 mg and then eventually down to 32.5 mg. I consulted my doctor and at my request, decided I would discontinue the medication. She suggested I cut my dosage in half every two days. This did not work as I felt very ill and decided to cut dosage every two-three weeks. Three months later, I am off the medication completely. However, ever since I started decreasing the dosage, my mood and emotions have been unsteady, to stay the least.
Avatar n tn i am on 450 mgs venlafaxine, 150mg quatipine at night and have prn 3x .25 quatipine during the day. venlafaxine isn't working anymore. I have been given 2 options.. option 1. taper very slowly over a very long period of time and take other meds to stablize me, option 2. go back to the psych ward and under supervision come off venlafaxine which then is going to be replaced by another anti dep.
Avatar n tn My husband just started taking a new medication about a year ago called Venlafaxine. When we have intercourse, there is nothing but water like substance that comes out. I know this cannot be good. With all the medications he is on we have no idea what to do. I do not want to go through a second round of treatment with fertility if he still has this problem the cost is just to high ($2300.00 per month).
Avatar n tn I was on 150mg for 14 years and had tried several times to come off this antidepressant, without success. VENLAFAXINE really helped my depression and anxiety, however it has some nasty side effects and is VERY difficult to get off. Although I've been off the drug for a couple of months, I still feel pretty rough most days. I feel exhausted much of the time and have very little motivation and drive. Does anyone know if this might be due to withdrawal from Venlafaxine?
Avatar m tn Hi people my names ryan I am 24 and since the age of 18 I have suffered from depression on and off. I was doing ok on my venlafaxine that I take from the doctors, but a month ago I fell out with a friend and were no longer friends and ever since then I havent felt any emotions at all and I havent been able to show any either. I know sometimes the we shutdown inside if we get hurt or something happens. I just want to know how I can get my emotions back because I just feel like a robot.
233002 tn?1316027966 The drugs work in different ways and the choice of anti-depressant should be based on the type of depression experienced by the patient. (Major Depression, Anxiety Depression, Atypical Depression) Anti-depressant treatment is based on each individual's response to treatment. A med that works for one person may not work for another. It is a trial and error process unfortunately. There is no "magic bullet" when it comes to anti-depressants. Cheers!
520191 tn?1355635402 t all about medication and will give alternative to medication such as supplements which i like. If my bloods are checked will that make sure the side effects will be picked up earlier and so wont get so bad?
Avatar f tn I was recently withdrawn from Venlafaxine 300mgs. bd and had a rough time with sweats and feeling freezing along with nervous system side effects. My GP prescribed me Duloxitine 20mgs. a couple of weeks ago but they didn't appear to be making any difference so I stopped them a week ago. My sister has depression and takes Amitriptylline with good effect. Do you think I ought to request the same from my GP?
Avatar m tn I had to take an MAO inhibitor for depression, and my blood pressure went up due to medication side effects -- or at least, I thought it was due to medication side effects. The blood pressure did not go back down when the medication was discontinued. My psychiatrist told me, at the time, that the people whose blood pressure does not go back down tend to be people who have other predisposing factors for hypertension.
20867265 tn?1552026340 I've been taking Effexor/Venlafaxine since I was 23 (I'm going to be 30 in May). The medication was prescribed to me when I was still diagnosed as having Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). However, when I was 27, I got the diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder instead and that resonated a lot more. I noticed that my mental health improved quite considerably after that diagnosis and once I was put on mood stabilizers. My psychiatrist didn't take me off the antidepressants however.
Avatar m tn Did it cold turkey once before, but depression came back. You should never stop Effexor (Venlafaxine) abruptly, as withdrawals are difficult, as you have found, and can take a long time to go away. You were on a very high dose. Why did you stop the Effexor cold turkey? I had no withdrawals at all when I stopped this time. It is 4 months since I stopped and I am very well. What do you think you will do now?
Avatar m tn I have tried several depression med.
Avatar n tn Can anyone help??? I have been on venlafaxine for 4 years and after my recent visit to the doctor she advised me to cut down for three weeks on the venlafaxine and then start on mirtazapine 15mg. In my infinite wisdom I thought I would cut down the venlafaxine in my own way and not bother with the mirtazapine. I thought what is the point of cutting out one med to go on another as I'm keen to be med free. This is now third day without any medication I feel ill.
Avatar n tn Let me clairify. Venlafaxine is the exact same active chemical that is in Effexor XR. The difference is (and this is a huge difference when were talking Venlafaxine) that Effexor XR is an extended release formula. This is where the "XR" terminology comes from. Meaning Extended Release. The Generic Venlafaxine has no Extended release properties to it such as Effexor XR.
1910757 tn?1348683319 My mother has been on Venlafaxine for three years with great results, but she had a really serious major depression, which isn't my case. When I tried to talk to her about why I don't want to take Venlafaxine, she got pissed and told me I was overreacting and that she had never had any withdrawal symptoms on Venlafaxine.
Avatar f tn Has anyone been given this for nerve pain? I am just about to start this medication. I am already taking Avonex.
Avatar n tn I never had and symptoms of depression before, during or after using the venlafaxine. However, the one withdrawal symptom I am experiencing is the 'buzzing' in my head - or 'brain shift' as I call it. Despite not having any depression / emotional symptoms, if I am destined to live with this maddening effect for the rest of my life, it could seriously lead to depression. I wish I was kidding. Does this side effect of discontinuation persist? Will it eventually go away?
309783 tn?1271958229 I am feeling much better but think it would be irresponsible to stop this medication. I never want to go back to feeling the anxiety and depression I felt before taking Venlafaxine. Does anyone have any advice?
Avatar m tn Hi there, been going through various medication regimes now for the last 3 years after me depression 'insidiously' crept up on me to the extent that all the nicer part of me was gone and that was just getting by, carefully avoiding being 'out in the open' and retreating into myself.
Avatar n tn i can remember things from ages ago but yet i have absolutly no idea wat i had for tea last nite or even wat i did yesterday?
