Common Questions and Answers about Depression help groups online

depression

Avatar m tn Lastly, and most importantly, while online groups can certainly help us in some ways, and even give us a sense of support, it should NEVER be your only source of help or support and should NEVER be used in place of real, in person support or help. There's no substitution for that in person connection you will have with other people, the eye contact, physical touch, etc.
1668478 tn?1303433602 I am not knocking pandamans advice, and with certain people, medication can help. However, I would strongly urge you to first try the support groups, therapist, and school councerlor before asking for medications. Very often, issues such as depression can be controlled without medications. The problem with medications is if you don't need them and therapy/group support can help the problem, is you become dependent on them.
Avatar f tn to talk to people with the same depression illness as me?
672839 tn?1305792947 To me, there are two types of groups, 1) Support and 2) Self Help. Support Groups are places to go and feel safe. Lead by others with medical conditions like ours, opinions are shared by all, and comfort is widely given while tears flow. The discussions are personal and individualized making this the place to be when your chin is on the ground. Self-Help groups relieve a different pain. In this setting professionals teach you the steps necessary to better yourself and your position.
Avatar f tn Sometimes just going to a coffee shop and sitting there for a bit is helpful just to be surrounded be other people. I have also heard of support groups online and also in communities for pregnant women aswell as for mommies with newborns. If things get really rough dont be embarrassed or ashamed to seek professional help from a therapist or counselor.
1468734 tn?1316535897 Thats why I was wondering if any one knew of any support group meetings in my area that area like AA or NA only for depression. The only groups I found so far meet only twice a month. I need way more. Would any one know of such a meeting or organization in the Flint, Genesee county Michigan area that might fit the bill? Any how, my prayers are with you all for I know how you feel. Been to the bottom many times. Black, all consuming and empty. Bless each and every one.
Avatar f tn I think I read somewhere that you are more likely to get it again if you had it the first time around. Just amke sure you have some sort of support system in place to help you deal with it should it arise again. Don't be afraid to get temporary relief from an antidepressant. That would not be my first choice, but sometimes we have exausted all other avenues and it would be beneficial to use medicine.
Avatar m tn Are there any support groups that meet for Chiari survivors, sufferers in Knoxville, TN. My daughter had decompression surgery a year and a half ago. Since then she has been suffering from headaches and mind seizures as well as fear, depression and anxiety. She has had to quit her job and we are probably going to have to file for disability for her. I think a support group would help her feel not so all alone.
Avatar f tn So I don't really have any local friends and I'm not very close with my extended family. I'm 27 weeks and still don't have anything for baby bc I just don't have the money right now, and I'd love to have a baby shower but have no one to invite. So I'm just curious if there's such a thing as an online baby shower, or does that seem too much like I'm just fishing for free stuff? Love to hear some opinions on this or if anyone else has had the same problem.
Avatar f tn Hi I've been suffering from depression my while life nand I want to get help but iw to expensive.does any one know where can I get help at low cost.
Avatar m tn why not make your own online group and try to organize people? you can make a user group here on medhelp or yahoo groups are also useful for it.
Avatar f tn What I can suggest is that you look for support groups online until you can find someone to see in person. I know it may not fix things completely, but just having someone to talk to while you are waiting to see a professional could help. There are many people on here, including me, who are more than happy to help you and who are willing to listen anytime you want to vent.
Avatar f tn With the due date so close I'm starting to feel the anxiety of becoming a mom, honestly I'm so very scared and feel so unprepared. I keep trying to stay calm but there's just these moments where I feel like I have nothing ready, I feel like I'm going to fail being a mom. I get panic attacks and I don't really have anyone there to vent or to be there for me.

Avatar m tn Contact NAMI & DBSA. Free support groups for him. In person or online. Plus they offer friends and family support groups. Some psychiatrists will take you in sooner if you pay upfront & get your reimbursable $ back later. He's experiencing the depression as a result of the opioid withdrawls. It is serious and he will need love and extra attention during this time. The Pdoc may give him Wellbutrin. It's a good antidepressant IMO.
Avatar f tn I received SO much help and support from participants on other online eye forums, groups, and message boards. (This forum did not exist yet.) I also obtained state-of-the-art information about my condition from reading published research and corresponding with researchers. As a result, I was able to locate an out-of-town surgeon who could help me. I can't image what I would have done without the internet. So now I'm committed to helping others.
Avatar f tn Either can help. I had a rough patch but I was lucky. I exercised my way through it.
Avatar f tn Yep and thats why there is these groups there are alsi ither groups out there that you can join the important thing is that dispite the feeling of being alone and not wanting to do anything... we need ti push ourselves out the door to do something every day. It helps when you have a frirnd that lives near by. One if my best friends was my neighbor 5years ago. I was pregnant with my daughter and she would call me over every day and would not take no ad an answer. She has moved 1.
1772975 tn?1314149804 In order to be diagnosed with psychosis you need to experience one or more of these things: hallucinations (visual, auditory, etc), delusions, disoriented thoughts / speech. There are other symptoms, but you need to experience these for more than 3 months for it to be diagnosed as psychosis. You can not treat yourself for psychosis, but you can join support groups both in real life and online. You don't need medication if you don't want it, but I do suggest therapy.
Avatar m tn I go to DBSA in my local community. DBSA stands for Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance... Here is a link to their site. There you can look up local meetings in your city and state. Good luck and let us know if you hooked up with a group. ( You can also go to online meetings and they also have a forum there... http://www.dbsalliance.org/site/PageServer?
