I have done research on that pill and the side effects are mainly the same. People have reported weight gain as well. I have just heard horrible things from people on depo for a long time, but I love it (except the weight issue). Since you have been on depo for a long time, what would you do? Do you think the pros outweight the cons in my situation? Is it possible to loose the weight? Why did I gain weight, loose it, and it came back? Am I just eating junk and not exercising?

Certain medications like antidepressants cause weight gain. Polycystic ovary too causes weight gain, hence has to be ruled out by an ultrasound of abdomen. Once all these causes are ruled out, then it could be due to shot, and you will be able to regain your previous weight once effect of shot goes in 3 months. Hello, In December 2013 I was to go get my shot redone but I chose not too cause of the weight gain.. Ive been off for 2 months I went thru alot of the withdraw symptoms of the Depo shot...On Jan.31,2014 woke up to some light bleeding that lasted 1 day off and on..then spotting on Feb1st nothing on the 3,4,5...So and I have tried to be careful but sometimes not..for the record I don't mind if pregnancy does happen ..

The mini-pill is less effective than regular preparations. Depo-provera is effective, but watch out for weight gain that could worsen blood pressure issues, and take calcium supplements in addition. Hope this helps!

Even if you've not had problems with it in the past, it's possible Depo is much of what you're feeling, especially the stomach bloating/weight gain. Depo is infamous in causing women to gain 5-10+ pounds, especially if you've been on it for a long period of time. See your doctor and request they do a blood test. That can work, it stops your period also. It can cause weight gain and bone density thinning and I *think* depression but its not common the depression I dont think. If you keep a balanced diet the weight gain often isnt a problem, its more an increase in apetite. Have you been back to your doctor about it? It would deffinately be worth going back, 7 months is a bit too long!

Hi I am also using depo but I am able to lose weight. Just watch what you eat. Make sure they are under your daily calorie needs and exercise regularly. Walking with my baby helped me.

I get pregnant pretty easily and was on depo, like the other ladies that was my only form of birth control, and I never got pregnant while on it and got pregnant just as I had before after I stopped it!! As for the weight gain it is true but here is how it breaks down (as recently told to me by my gyno). The depo shot has a tendency to make you hungrier than usual. So, it's not arbitarily making you gain weight, it's what you put in your mouth that makes you gain weight. I didn't have any hair loss while I was on it. For me, it was the best solution at the time as I am horrible at remembering to take pills too. I'm using Nuvaring now. Hope this helps some.

I had used Depo for 3 years and never had any issues. I didnt gain wait, or anything. The only minor side effects I did have was mild cramping after the shot, and headaches. Although once I got off depo that was different. My hair started to fall out, I gained weight, headaches were worse and so on. Hi, I took depo for 8 years. First it cause me to gain a little weight. Then I exercised, ate sensibly (still ate whatever I liked but reasonably) and I ws thin again. Then three years later my motabolism slowed. I started eating less, exercising more. Inever tried slim fast for a short while. Every time I gotva physical my blood wss normal. I went off it and still had a slow morabolim. I wasnt fat but I use to be a size 8 and was a size 16.

So being on depo provera over the long term can cause the reproductive system shock when the medication is stopped such that it can be very hard for some women to get pregnant. Also get secondary amenorrhea ruled out. Secondary amenorrhea is when a woman who has had normal menstrual cycles stops getting her monthly period for 3 or more months.
